  1. Thankyou! The venue is approx 200 peo0le capacity and my little amp (usually just home use) is a Fender Rumble 100. I'm keen to use it as it is light and easy to carry! Compared to my Trace E 🤣
  2. I'm going shopping! Thankyou! 👍👍
  3. OK, I've been playing since the 90s but this is actually a first for me and something I feel I probably should know the answer too...but I don't and hope you can help! I'm playing a small venue that is usually acoustic guitars and vocals straight into a PA. I'll be playing bass (passive magnetic pickup) How best can I get the signal into the PA so that the sound can be controlled by the sound guy? ...or do I just take a small amp and control it myself?!
  4. Thanks again for the advice! I'm pleased to report I got new Daddario Helicore Pizzicato (3/4 medium tension) and the bass has 4 strings again now 👍👍 The helicore are totally the same as what were on before, great spot and good knowledge in the links, thankyou!
  5. ...I once decided to use a wooden bass neck as a donor for casting a mold out of a resin. The plan was to then remove the wooden neck from the resin and use the mold to lay up a carbon fibre neck...I was so confident I could get it right first time that I used quite a nice neck...this is something I do not want to discuss 🤣
  6. Right, I think I'm going to go for the helicore as it looks likely the current strings are also helicore and I like them...but which tension?! I think someone mentioned the ball ends might indicate the tension...so here is a photo Thanks again for all the info, I've never replaced double bass strings before so it's a huge help!!
  7. Good info! Thankyou! I'm not sure on the history of the bass or age of the strings. It failed at the peg, unravelling, possibly some ageing of the string combined with how it was wound? I'll inspect when I remove it

  9. Great chart! I'll save that link! Thankyou!!!
  10. Great chart! I'll save that link! Thankyou!!!
  11. I've snapped a double bass E string! Does anybody know what brand these might be so I can replace with the same brand? (I just spotted this section, I started a post in general chat, thankyou for all the advice so far! )
  12. @SubsonicSimpleton@Beer of the Bass Here are the ends! I don't know what they are. String length is 42 inches. Anybody know the brand in these colours? 🤞
  13. I'm not sure what is on it at the moment, I'll take a couple of photos, I like these, hopefully can good the same!
  14. So just as I'm getting back into double bass...the E string went! I've never replaced a double bass string before! It is on a 3/4 bass with a magnetic pickup and also an under bridge piezo. Any recommendations on brand or tension?
  15. I just googled for a handmade double bass mount...and got this! 🤣
  16. That might work! It's not light and does have an angle but I'll go take a look see how it may stand 👍
  17. It's an odd shape...I'm wanting to create a support to lean this on...any ideas?! Cheers! Joe https://www.instagram.com/joseph.martyn.501/
  18. Perfect! Interesting stuff. Looking at the surface finish it looks to be pre-preg vacuum layup, which is surprising as that's super stiff and 2mm thick would probably be stiff enough. 6mm seems more like a wet lay and a lot of excess carbon (which is expensive!) Once a mould is made then vacuuming and foam filling is quicker to mass produce each item but im thinking for cost and convenience on the prototype a wet lay on a shaped core would be sufficient... When I start the build I'll try and post pics on my insta! (www.instagram.com/joseph.martyn.501)
  19. Great info! I've used both vacuuming and wet lay techniques on other projects, I'm leaning towards the wet lay at the moment rather than autoclave, mainly for keeping costs down...small steps when start the build I'll keep a log on my insta (www.instagram.com/joseph.martyn.501)
  20. Thanks @naxos10! Will do! (Sorry, I'm not on here often and still getting up to speed with all the threads! 🤣👍)
