  1. 20 years into the furure and some young players will be saying WoW those vintage 60's 70's 80's P&J Bass's were cheap in the 2023's cost of living crisis

I sold a 1968 Gibson les paul for £500 many years ago along with a 1973  Pbass for £750 a few years later.. at the time I had a young family and needed the cash..

they both would have made great investments though...

That’s a beauty, thanks for sharing, wasn’t that a custom colour back then, how does it sound and play

Bog Standard Olympic White..Fab neck and excellent to play,

pups are a bit weak in comparrison to modern versions but the old girls over 61 years old and can still do the job

colour is a personal choice and makes no difference to the sound it produces IMHO 🙂

Id be tempted to leave it out in the sun for an hour or so on fine summers day and screw it back on the body bit at a time and when it cools hopefully it will go back to its original shape...

It sets expectations though, and I’ve been to enough auctions to know how it works. Looks like a piece of junk to me, and is hardly collectible in its current state.

In desperate need of a refin any colour but natural.. possible project for someone though

  6. Ive played and owned lots of bass's from Rickenbackers Musicman Stringray Fender Pbass (1973) and 1966 but I prefer Vintage JBass (1962) fantastic neck the pickups maybe weak but nothing a good amp cant sort out at least you get two pups with a Jazz unlike a Pbass which is one cut in two

everyone has there own preference..theres a lot of choice out there 😉

Except for one fretless bass I’m very lucky to own I have two budget basses which are fine for now. Hopefully the bubble will burst with vintage fenders but folk have being saying that will happen for over a decade.

probably been saying that since 1965 .. 😉

It seems to me that the value of the 60s and early 70s ones have increased quite a bit in the last 3 or even 2 years, and there’s less of them available as there was before ,especially in the uk , in the US they seem to be fetching high prices

The US is the place to sell also Sweden and Norway..many living in those nations have large disposable income..even 1980s are becoming collectable now I believe

Im a regular vistor to Norway most months.. one of the richest countries in the world

    Get ready to be shot.

I’ve yet to find a modern bass that sounds the same as a 60s or 70s Fender bass. I’ve really tried because I want that sound and was silly enough to waste money on a house all and the trimmings they require. I have been lucky to A/B true vintage against reissues (even an 80s Fullerton jazz) and they just didn’t sound the same.

Buying a guitar or bass is always a personal choice, when I was young all I could afford was absolute rubbish instruments

there is always something to suit all budgets, I personally love the older stuff...

ps. bought a house first then much later bought the vintage stuff..

If I were a young player Id be buying.. yes you need to inspect them and know what youre buying ideally direct from the previous owner or a reputable retailer

what one person finds expensive to another is fairly priced ...in 5-10 years time todays prices will look like a bargain..IMO

  13. I left school at 14 years old, these things happened in the 20th century, my first bass was made by a UK manufacturer WEM who made amplification too

I clawed my way up the ladder Fender Mustang.. Pbass.. Rickernbacker 4001 stero bass with stereo amplification..(I should be deaf ).. MM Stingray, eventually owner of a 1962 Jazz bass and Fender Stratocaster from the same year ...(not bad for someone with learning difficulties ) and zero education..
