  1. Possible but honestly not really a fan of Yamaha design if I’m honest… I had a lined TRB yonks ago and that was great, but as I say, after something a bit more jazz / MM looking…
  2. Hi all... I am after some advice... I recently bought and successfully de-fretted a cheap HB musicman clone - the stealth black one as I have been after a 5 string fretless bass for a while. However, I REALLY want an unlined neck... just looks a bit more 'fretless' to me... anyway... i tried to disguise the infills on wood I glued in but you can still see it is a lined fretless - something I really wanted to avoid... Oh well... So - I am looking to purchase a mid-range (£500/£600 ish) bass - 5 string unlined fretless. Any ideas anyone? I am much more of a traditionalist so not overly keen on Ibanez style designs and am partial to a Jazz / MM setup... I did look at Sire as I already have a v7 but they only do lined necks... I have been looking at the RSD MetroExpress basses but they had such a bad press on release... Anyone got some wonderful ideas or anything they might like to sell!? 🙂
  3. I am considering one of these as I am after a mid-priced 5 string fretless with an unlined neck. I have a Sire V7 which I really like but they only do lined necks in fretless... @ead - is it worth it? They are around the £650 mark on Thomann... anything else worth considering?
  4. 2 Musicman Stingray 5 special pickguards - one in a Mirror finish and one in a plain white (the one the bass came with). Won't fit Stingrays before 2018 - only for the newer special range. £20 each plus postage (should only be £2-3 for postage).
  5. Cheers… it’s a great bit of kit - just won’t be used whilst I have an amp…
  6. SONICAKE BOOM AVE. PREAMP. As new - never gigged, only used once in the studio. I bought this as part of an FRFR setup (Alto TS310 speaker available separately) and never got to gig it. I have recently purchase a new combo and I am not really an effects man so this won't get used. A great little device - do a bit of research and it has loads of great reviews. No box but comes with the PSU and I made a battery pack for this to run off 6AA batteries. One-Stop Gig Solution for Bass Players with Main Effects needed. ●Analog Preamp with 3-Band EQ recreates the Legendary Ampeg Style Tone, from Dynamic Clean to Classic Rock Bass Sound. ●Compressor, Boost, Fuzz Modules ready for Most Common Use in Bass Playing Scenes. ●Octave Module Produces Notes One and Two Octaves Lower along with the Direct Signal for the Massive Thickness or Treble Tricky with some High Frets Tracking. ●XLR Output for directly connecting to PA, Mixer or Audio Interface; FX Loop for Hooking up other Effects. 7. Hi all... due to recently acquiring a combo I have been after for some time, I am putting up for sale my - in some respects - beginners foray in the FRFR world. It's a great little setup but my needs have changed and to be honest, this has hardly been used. Essentially an active speaker with a nice little preamp pedal, this probably isn't best suited for a backline only situation unless it's a smaller gig (it is surprising how much volume these speakers put out) but it is a great and small solution if you are going into a PA and just need some monitoring. So - ALTO TS310 - 2000-WATT 10-INCH 2-WAY POWERED LOUDSPEAKER. (no box, but does come with the power cable. A few scuffs and marks on the case but in excellent working order. I bought this just before CV hit and was used in this setting twice - it worked great as a bass amp and i also routed some vocals into it as well - worked a treat! Bought new for £300 - looking for £170 if separate. Specs: 2000 W peak (1300 LF + 700 HF) 1000 W continuous RMS (650 LF + 350 HF) 10-inch (254 mm) LF driver, 2.5-inch (65 mm) high-temperature voice coil HF Driver: 1.4-inch (35 mm) neodymium magnet HF driver with precision waveguide High quality, lightweight, cabinet design for easy transport, set up and installation Pole-mountable, wedge monitor, bracket installation or flown application with integral M0 suspension points Integrated 2-channel mixer with dual XLR 1/4-inch combo mic/line inputs, independent level controls, XLR Link output, Contour EQ switch and Ground-Lift switch Custom-engineered high-efficiency class D amplifiers with passive cooling design – no fan means the speaker runs cleaner, quieter and has greater long-term reliability Designed and tuned in the USA SONICAKE BOOM AVE. PREAMP. No box but comes with the PSU and I made a battery pack for this to run off 6AA batteries. £40 if the speaker sells first. Postage should be £15 to UK.
  8. Was the blank that you glued in place oversize? Did you just plane the sides down flush? I see people doing it with a router with a blank neck that hasn't been profiled, but I can't see any other way to flush the edges...
  9. Hi all... I recently bought a Harley Benton musicman copy (the stealth black one) as I wanted a cheap fretless 5 string. I also wanted a project so ripped the frets out, filled the slots and lacquered the neck. After some filing at the nut, it plays lovely! Quite surprised to be honest! However, I really wanted to get a blank unlined board so was wondering... Anyone ever replaced a fingerboard? I'm pretty good with wood working (have fitted kitchens, doors etc at home) and can be meticulous when needed. Is it that difficult? I looked online and saw people removing them with an iron and a scraper... Is that the accepted method?? I get I will need to source a blank board, glue it in (what is the best glue to use for this??) And then profile the board correctly... Is there anything else to consider?? Any advice would be welcome before I get crazy and pull the original board off... I just love a blank board... Lined fretless boards make you look too much and I want my ear to do the work.
  10. Thanks @attackbass - kind of what I thought as well.
  11. Hi all... I am about to pull the trigger on the 1x15 version of one of these, someone I know knows someone who knows someone who has one kind of thing... Anyone had one or got one with some experience? I really like EBS stuff, I used to have a HD350 with Neo 1x10 and 1x12 cabs and it kicked a**! WHy i sold the cabs I don't know... anyway... I had a reidmar years ago and Like that and I understand the Magni is a Reidmar 250 combo kind of thing... Just wanted to be sure before I committed! Price is £500... does that seem fair? Cheers!
  12. Thanks for all the comments guys. Certainly has made me think about whether it is worthwhile...👍👍
  13. I bought one of these from eBay - as a basic DI box and a bit of a preamp it's amazing!! And only £40!! I'm not big on effects but for a basic preamp, got to be a bargain. I put together a 9v battery box as well to run it from batteries.... shame it can't run from batteries internally... Still... a great buy for me!
  14. I know this has been discussed many times on many posts, I was looking at a bass on this forum in the EU and wondered about current charges for importing? I was hoping someone could shed some exact light? Shipping charge + VAT on the item + courier admin fees? Is that correct? On a bass worth £250 - any ideas how much? Just wondering from someone who might have previous up to date experience? There are many posts from early this year which have scathing comments but I know things have settled down now... Any thoughts lovely BC'ers?
  15. I played one of these recently that I was looking to buy used (it was listed on here), a sire PJ config (can't remember the model number) and it did feel really nice... Not sticky at all. I have a v7 gen 2 and would love a fretless to match... However I really want a unlined one... Sire dont do those at the mo, but I am gonna wait as there has been discussion...
  16. I wonder if the the JB-40FL 3-Tone Sunburst one is also heavy? It states same wood for body and neck but they do seem to be far more widespread in use and very little references to weight... @kodiakblairdid anyone comment on these ones? Its looks the same apart the JB75 has a black pickguard... I'm sure there will be minor differences perhaps, not that it would bother me much... It's a shame they don't do the kit bass with a fretless neck...
  17. Personally, I think it's a great looking bass and have seen worse examples of 'slight' issues in boutique work. I had a £3k+ bass a few years back and could faintly feel the stripes in the thru-neck. It's easy to criticise someone else work (yes I can see the misalignment) but given the fact that Lukasz is asking a similar price for a hand-made bass as what you would expect to pay for a CNC, mass produced Indonesian bass, I think whoever buys this is getting a great bit of kit. It sounds great as well! It has my vote.
  18. I think I will... I might even keep a project diary to inspire others!
  19. I did consider this but I wanted the 70s sunburst with black pickguard anyway... plus there is the hassle of painting and defretting the neck... I wonder if there is variation in weight... other reviews on the Thomann site mention weight as well but I think that if I gig it, it would just be for the occasional song rather than a whole gig... Thanks for the advice though, it's a shame they don't do it the kit with a fretless neck... i think if they did, I would jump on that!
  20. Yep... that's what I am hoping for. Hopefully someone will have one and wouldn't mind doing a quick check!!
  21. I know this may seem to be a bit naughty, and I just wanted a bit of advice... I have always loved the mid 70s jazz look, primarily the headstock and a beaten up body with darkened laquer on the neck. Mmmmm... anyhoo.... I only really play 5 string so 4s never get used (trust me - I have had my share...) Anyway, I would like a fretless (which also wouldn't get much use) so I thought about getting a cheap fretless and dressing it up to look like a mid 70s beaten up jazz... I have recently bought 2 Harley Benton acoustic guitars for other gigs I do and with a bit of fettling, was astounded at the price point for the quality of guitar that you get! They will never win awards, but I recently changed my £500 freshman acoustic for a £70 HB one and I would put them side by side any day... That aside... I was looking at this: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_jb_75fl_sb_vintage_series.htm Basically, strip it apart, road worn paint job ( I have a good plan on how to achieve this...) and I wanted to reshape the headstock to make it look like a fender and stick a cheeky 70s decal on it with some aged lacquer that I already have. Nobody would ever be fooled but I don't want to spend £2k+ to get a bass I would hardly ever use professionally... this would be a good compromise and a fun project to boot! So.... does anyone have on of these? Would a fender template like the ones here: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/attachments/bass-place/66934d1292895136-p-bass-headstock-template-bass-heads-1-pdf lay over the HB one so it could be reshaped or am I p***ing in the wind here? I was gonna take a punt anyway but thought I would ask before I did... Anyone else done this kind of thing?
  22. Freshman FA300D acoustic guitar in excellent condition. Comes with TKL tweed hard case. Cost over £500 a few years ago, it hasn't seen much use as I play bass mainly. Home and studio use only, in immaculate condition apart from one tiny nick in the back of the neck, not noticeable when playing. Lovely, mature full sound for a Dreadnaught guitar, cedar top with mahogany sides and back. Will have some new strings on it, any trial welcome. Can post - this can be negotiated. I do have boxes ready to go.
