I've started taking a kettle lead, speaker cable and a ton of spare leads. I used to be far more of the opinion that it's not my problem if the venue or another band member hasn't got everything they should, but it just saves a lot of hassle if you can quickly produce the right lead or whatever and get on with it. Of course the problem now is that the guitarist has started assuming I'll have all the leads he should have brought himself...

I've always used a Boss TU-2 and I think it's great (especially in chromatic mode for different tunings). I assume the TU-3 is similar but better.

I shared this on facebook, and noticed that 2 or 3 other musician friends had already done so. Best of luck in getting it back!

I went a few years of using the rehearsal room's Hartke kickback, then

Orange Terror Bass 500
Orange AD200b MkIII

Honestly don't see myself ever needing to replace the AD200, but that's what I thought about the Bass Terror....

I use the dunlop nylon 1mm guy.

I use a whammy.

I have one and I love it, it is by far my favourite amp I've ever played through. However, as with most Oranges, it has the distinctive warm Orange sound. I'd definitely suggest trying one first because I there isn't a whole lot of control of the sound available, just a 3-band EQ and gain.
That's not to say you can't have it sounding clean- with the gain low and the master volume high it is clean, but a very warm, valvy clean.

You might want to try an Orange Bass Terror if you haven't already- same preamp as the AD200 but with a class D power amp and capable of going louder, cleaner (there are some reliability issues with them though, and they don't sound quite as beautiful as the AD200 in my opinion.)

Stringsdirect are great, but I wish their website was a bit easier to navigate if you don't know exactly what you want... Minor problem though. I suppose it's just because they have such a massive range of strings.

Clearly a talented dude, doing whatever the hell he wants. 'Doing it right', in my opinion.

I used to only play in CGCF (used a thin 'low B' tuned up on the bottom). I was lucky both bands I was in used the same tuning, it meant I couldn't tune to standard if I wanted to.

Harburn Hall! I played a very memorable gig there with my old band Tabasco Fiasco.

I've got a Schecter Elite 4, and I love how thin and fast the neck is and how low the action can go, even with lower tunings. But what really made this bass come alive for me was replacing both the stock EMG 35hz pickups with 35TW's, which I run at 18v and each of which have their own push/pull volume pot. This means I can have any combination of single coil (Jazz-ish) and humbucker (MM-ish) in both neck and bridge positions. The versatility of the sound, with the playability of the bass, is enough for me to be happy with just the one bass. I'm sure others will disagree, but each to their own.

YES! This is my approach, I've yet to regret it.

Hey, each to their own. If there's one thing I've learned about bass players it's that they like totally different things in their sound. I one sold my Hartke 3500 to a friend because the sound of it didn't suit me- he played it for 5 minutes and was DELIGHTED that he'd finally found 'his' sound. Another friend (a very talented dude in an awesome band) plays through a little cheapy 100w combo and makes it sound great.
Unfortunately for me, I wasn't happy with my tone until I got a big, heavy, expensive Orange AD200.

But yeah, nothing wrong with cheap gear if it sounds the way you like.

Just got the Orange AD200 I bought from Dan. So glad he was willing to send it. Absolute pleasure to deal with, and he even chucked in a speaker cable. 1000 thumbs up from me!
