Thanks for the advice. The strings are quite bright at the moment but even so they still sound noticeably bigger than any rounds i've played so i have high hopes. Will Fast Fret help to break the strings in?

I have been reading about some abss players using a foam mute near the bridge, i wouldlove to try this but dont know where to aquire this from , any suggestions?

Thanks for the replies, I have taken the flats back to the shop who have swapped the A string for me so thats that sorted, will put A string on and will see how these flats go once they have been broken in as I have read some good things about them

I am just wondering what peoples opinions on Daddaro flats are, I have just bought a pack of these and have found that the strings are way too bright and to top this off the A string is dead and rattles like mad. Will probably end up putting my old strings back on which is a shame as I was after some flats

These strings , are these prices for real? is this a legitamate company to order from? prices seem very cheap

Hi, am trying to learn taxman by the beatles and whilst most of the song is fairly straight forward , paul mccartney does some really odd bass fills on some parts of this song, does anyone have a bass tab for this?

Hi,
Was wondering if anybody knew of any website that I could buy a single flatwound bass string, I have seen plenty of sites offering single rounds but not flats, any suggestions welcome -
I did also wonder coz it is a squier and ive heard that squier tone pots are a bit cheap and nasty

Cheers Hamster , thanks for the reply , not a bad idea (the active circuit) , I have a p bass special and am thinking about doing something like that

Hi there,
Have just swapped the pick ups in my squier for some seymour duncans, bass sounds better for it , however I was wondering whether it would make any improvement to the tone if i changed the pots on the bass , the person who replaced the pick ups for me said that apart from getting rid of the slight crackle when i turn the tone knob changing the pots would only make a small difference tone wise, Is this true?
I also know nothing at all about pots etc and dont know a tone pot from a volume pot and was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction with regards to buying some new pots -
"I say this each time one of these theads comes up: Andy Rourke, of The Smiths. Fantastic player. "
+1 on that , also duff mckagan, paul mccartney -
Thank you for all the replies. One thing I have found that is a real obstacle is not knowing what to practice in order to improve, any suggestions

One thing i am intrigued by is something macca said that the rest of the beng could be playing one note and he could be playing something different , I would like to try and develop this

Hi all, thanks for the replies,
Tip regarding the metronome is a good idea, will try out some of those websites. My main bass influence at the moment is Paul McCartney (66-70 era beatles , awesome bass playing), I love the melody in his basslines and his tone. -
Good call , I would love to see that Bass once the customisations have been done, make sure you post pics of it. I will be adding some pickup covers to mine very soon, am thinking of stringing it with flatwounds once everything else has been done (seymour duncans and flats , should make an interesting tone)

On basses that I use roundwounds on I change the strings once a month. On my basses with flats I just change them when they start souding dead. I find flats dont lose the thump so quickly

Hi ,
I was also wondering if anybody knew how much (roughly) it would cost to get the pick ups changed over by a music shop, i have been quoted £35 but i am a bit sceptical as this sounds a bit cheap as I have heard of music stores charging that just to cut a new nut

Thanks for the suggestions , will try the kitchen spong idea and see how that works for me. Has anybody tried putting foam underneath the strings (ie - piece of foam on saddles underneath strings) and if so has it worked ok?
