  1. Hey anyone who is interested in tips on improving their right hand technique or beginners looking to get advice then have a look at the video link below. There are photos & a free pdf of the exercises to download. Enjoy and I hope it’s useful: https://youtu.be/D8D4zOugBsg
  2. Here is a project I completed using ‘ready-made’ parts to put together a Tele Bass. I finished the body & neck with Wudtone which was a really interesting process for someone like me who isn’t experienced with staining, finishing or in fact working with wood. All respect to the builders on here who start from scratch. I take my hat off to you! For the novice or anyone interested in Wudtone, check out the video https://youtu.be/Bm9mijSt20A
  3. Here is the playlist of the Bass Beginner Series. More videos updated next week. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8NuE6bwYMXb5OZydYoTe91AtVV6c_koZ

  6. Ok I am going to test the videos on different headphones/earphones & speakers & see what’s going on. Thanks Greg
  7. Yes you have a very good point there!!!! It did make me laugh though. I better get off this thread sharpish!!
  8. Thanks. Started messing around with inserting notation in Video No.6 but I’ll have more of a think. Have a good day & thanks again. Greg
  9. Thanks for taking the time to give me that feedback. Before posting on Basschat I hadn’t had any feedback so it’s very valuable. Just so I’m clear did you watch the Picking Video(No.9) or the Starting Out Video(No.4)? I sat down for my first few videos but thought they looked a little static & boring so have been experimenting with standing up but that does make it harder to film & like you say that might actually make it harder to learn from. Definitely an issue to think more carefully about. I normally roughly plan out a lesson beforehand & write a cue sheet of ideas but I think preparing more & having a better script might help eradicate some of the umms and errs!! So on your point No.4 do you mean inserting photos into the video at points to give the lesson some direction? Your advice is much appreciated Thanks Greg
  10. Thanks for that. Annoyingly from some other feedback I have realised that the bass in my first 7 videos are way too quiet. I mixed the bass & voice on earplugs which should have been realistic but definitely weren’t!! I think I’ll have to edit all the early videos & then upload again. Really appreciate the feedback as I now know it’s definitely a problem! Is the voice low too or just bass? This is my newest video. If you get a chance and don’t mind can you let me know if the volume is better. Thanks Greg.
  11. 😊 Check out my YouTube channel for free bass tips & lessons. I’m a professional bassist and I have set up the channel to pass on to you as much of the knowledge I have picked up on my musical journey as possible. It’s in the early stages so subscribe as I’m adding lots of new content every week. Feedback much appreciated. Thanks fellow basschatters!
  12. I suppose when we get to a certain level it can sometimes be hard to recollect just how basic advice needs to be to help beginners. Great that she is putting a free video out to help beginners. I’m currently setting up a bass educational YouTube channel with free bass videos. Have a look if this might interest you. It’s in the early stages but adding new improved content every week. Let me know if you would like me to make a video on any particular bass topic or area.
  13. Hi everyone I think Scott’s Bass Lessons are great. If you can’t afford it or aren’t into his style then I’m currently setting up an YouTube free bass tuition channel. Lots of new free videos going up all the time & improvements happening to the technical side of things. Give it a try, it’s free! Greg’s Bass Shed
  14. Well spotted ezbass. Yes it’s a Suhr J-bass. Dave it’s a lovely bass. Had it a few years now. Couldn’t quite get on with it at first but I’ve found out that it works great for rock type stuff which isn’t what I expected. It is of course pretty versatile but has more of a modern sound with the Suhr preamp in it.
  15. Great thanks for that info. A guitarist mate was explaining that hold to me too. I will endeavour to get that sorted. Cheers.
  16. Pick Bass is a great sound in the right situation. Love the sound of a muted P-bass. If anyone needs help to get started with their pick playing then check out this free tuition video:
  17. Hi there. Sorry been away so delay in replying to your post. Yes it’s me & I still have the P-bass for sale. Greg
  18. Hi, I am a Hertfordshire based professional bass guitar player and I offer lessons from my home in Berkhamsted . I teach all abilities and I very much focus the lessons on what you want to learn rather than just teaching a set course. I can improve your reading skills, technique, timing or simply get you up & running playing your favourite bass lines. I currently perform in a variety of different gigs listed below & I aim to pass on my experience of over 20 years of performing & teaching to you during our lessons. West End theatre shows including a long run on Jersey Boys and currently depping on Hamilton, Dreamgirls, Book Of Mormon, Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia & Everyone is Talking About Jamie(Music written by The Feeling). Function Bands An original Rock/Blues Band Live performances with different artists including recently a gig with Toyah Wilcox. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss having lessons with me. You can also see more information about me at: greghagger.co.uk Thanks Greg
  19. Hi Hanry Just noticed your post, sorry! I’ll pack it up, weigh it & post a photo tomorrow & give you more info. It does feel very similar size wise under the fingers as a traditional double bass. I did use it to practise my bowing but the strings currently on it are more suited to pizz. I’m sure more suitable strings for arco would work with this bass. ........ok so I have attached photos of the case with one of the photos showing relative size to an electric bass. The weight of the bass in the case is 7.8kg. I have done some research on the radius & it seems to me that it varies on a lot of upright basses. Some of them have a bevel edge for the E string which is a throwback to when the E strings were much larger. The Bassix feels very similar, radius wise to my double bass which is a modern bass.
  20. I have a set of La Bella Gut Double Bass Strings I am selling. I tried them & could not get on with gut strings. I also now need my 2nd bass strung with steel strings for arco practise so they are not needed anymore. The whole set is in good condition & has not really been used. I paid £345 for the set so grab yourself a bargain. This is the product description: The G and D strings are plain gut. The A and E are Silver Wound. They are an excellent choice for warm pizzicato tone with easy playability and comfortable feel. Please message me if you have any questions. Thanks Greg
  21. I am selling my folding Bassix Electric Double Bass. It was handmade by Alan Hatswell & apart from the usual wear & tear it is in good condition. There is the odd small chip out of the body & a small chip out of the black body outline which you have to actually look very carefully to find. It folds up to just a fraction bigger than a normal bass guitar case & I will include the soft case & stand in the sale. The weight of the bass in it’s case is 7.8kg. The Bassix has a very lush mellow sound & is very easy to travel with. I brought it to practise with while I was away touring round the world. The controls give the bass a wide range of tone qualities while keeping that authentic upright sound. This is really the nearest you are going to get to a real double bass & is perfect for pizz & arco. It also has a very pleasing aesthetic look. Any questions then please message me. Many Thanks Greg
  22. Hi I am reluctantly selling my Fender 50th Anniversary Red Precision Bass with Rosewood fretboard. It is a beautiful example of a Fender P in good condition & has been well looked after. You will notice the serial number & sticker on the back of the headstock which you can use to check out authenticity on the Fender website. It plays very well & has that classic vintage P-bass thump. If you have any questions then please get in touch & I will get back to you. Happy for you to try it out & collect from me, & I will also post if you arrange the courier. Thanks Greg More Photos (these were taken in sunlight so the red has come out lighter but it is the same bass!!)
