I did use the stuff that goes under jazz bass pickups in the end, the dimensions are as near as dammit to the originals, and seems to do the job nicely, plus its already self adhesive on the back.

As it happens I've got natural finish '82 coming from the gallery tomorrow.

HAHA! Tables have turned, I enquired about that one at andy baxter after being converted by my red one, only to be told it was gone. haha! (planned on chopping in my 93 EB ray and a precision, or two )

The '78 has more depth to the sound to my ears, how much of that is due to age, or difference in modern pickups I don't know.

Another for going from a jazz to favouring precisions, now a convert to pre-EB Stingrays(at least till EB makes one with the same neck shape as the originals:P),still wouldn't be without my '04 precision though.

Maybe a mustang with pickups modded might suit you if you like short scale?

Sounds promising that a classic might not be far off then, guess I'll have to track one down and have a go.

I have an original '77 Stingray , and a '93 Ernie Ball version, I don't like the neck shape of the 93,it's not comfortable to me, nor am I particularly keen on the contour body, it just doesn't sit as well as the slab body does with my strap position/playing style etc, in short the '77 fits like a glove.

How do the classic series compare to the originals in terms of neck shape, etc, has anyone owned or played both to compare?
From what I've read on them the fingerboard radius is the same as the originals, but I don't know about the back profile,

John Glascock, in particular with Carmen, the bass parts pretty much made those songs I think, and he was a bloody good singer too(check out High Time, which he wrote and sang lead on).

Another pre-EB Stingray, finally found my perfect bass I think.

Another positive for Dave, ordered 2 cables saturday afternoon, arrived today, very nice quality they are too!
Highly recommended.

Very much so, it was the red that caught my eye initially,ta muchly, I'm definitely converted to the way of the ray now!

It was mate, had been looking at the page daily for a week now, and decided to go for it.
MIne was originally black, has some original paint left in the battery box, they do look spot on like that I think.

NIce! Always been a favourite colour combo that.

I have to admit, after playing one I'm a total convert now.

That now sits in my house, all original bar satin re-fin body, which I thought looked ace, the sound is incredible, tryed for years to create something like it, but never really succeeded, until now.
Reckon I might get the body clear coated though at some point, the finish is nice, but being gloss would really set it off i think.

Has the original mute springs, but the foam rubber is long since gone, planning on replacing it with the neoprene stuff that goes under jazz bass pickups, about the right dimensions when cut to length i reckon.

But either way, happy as a pig in **** now.

Looks about as much use as a pox doctors clerk.

Either way I'm going sherwood green about now with all those 70s precisions, do want.

Rotosound 77s, not massively tight, nice sound, can do bright-ish without that nasty clank of roundwounds, D'addario chromes have a fair bit more tension than the rotos, I personally don't like the feel of them, even though they sound good.

Haven't tried any other brands to comment, always stuck with the rotos.

I have an identical bass, same age.

Any chance of a photograph showing the wiring for the pickup selector switch?, mine has been messed with in the past and doesn't do anything now, I've tried to contact Wal/Paul Herman for info, with no success.

See what the repair man says or make one then by the looks, its a cast gold coloured one at present, can't find any direct replacements from google searches.

Anyone know of an off the shelf 5 string bridge with an extended bit for the B string like some yamahas seem to have?

I've got a Squier pro tone 5 and cant get the intonation right on the B, it's sharp and I've nearly run out of adjustment on the bridge, the other 4 strings are intonated fine.

Don't know what else to do about it really...

Any news on postage cost for this amp please?
