Yep I have just read upon this, P-Basses seem to be a bugger for this. It should go away when I get the Vintage V1004.

  2. I know this is most likely my crappy bass, it being a 5 year old Vintage P-Bass that most of the controls on it are broken. But I have been listening to my amp and you only notice it if your quite there is a slight static pop when I touch the strings, is this just the bass being poop/what 15" speakers do, or is there something going on?

BTW my amp is an Ashdown 250 head and the cab is a Trace 1153.

I can only hear it close up, I am just a bit concerned about it extending.

  3.
I'm tempted to buy a MAG 300 and get my brother who's sh*t-hot with woodwork to help me build a new chassis for it.
I thinking about making a new one and covering it in a classic tweed, no idea why, but meh.

  4.
i mailed them yesterday as well and had a reply at 9.15 this morning.russell the tech guy is very helpful.
I still waiting for replies to three emails about a replacement fan :)

  5.
I have, largely on the back of machines review.

I think I paid about £260 for mine from imuso, and I've had it nearly a year. I bought it blind (ie mail order) and was well chuffed with what I got. I got it delivered to work, and when I unpacked it the guys in the post room were stunned into silence; they couldn't believe how up-market it looked given it's price.

There were no construction issues, it's solid and comfortable to play. The sound is pretty modern; this is no fender clone.

Overall I think 'vintage' have done well with this one.
If you're not a label-whore (ie aren't bothered that 'vintage' is written on the headstock) and can bag one up for £250, you're getting a lot of bass for your cash.

    H&R
I looking for it to play jazz with, so I want a nice mellow modern tone.

  6. It is good gear, I use English Ashdown and it sounds great and the quality is there. The chinese stuff still sounds great, but the reliability has been a problem. I haven't heard many problems with the ABM range though, they seem to put those together pretty well.

What you need to do is goto a music shop and play with them, see if you like them and then buy them. You may want to look on this forum though to find UK made ABM as the 'real' Ashdown is in those.

  7.
I'm quite interested in one of these as a back up for my 'on its way' Ashdown ABM RC 500 - are the English MAGs good or bad? I know there's been issues with MAG stuff and their reputation is a bit iffy but I love the sound of them. My tutor uses a MAG 300 head and nothing else - it sounds fantastic and makes me wonder why you pay double for fancy features you really don't need.
I have a MAG 250 head thats made in England, it certainly is not going to fail. It has been going strong for 6 years.

  8.
I boil my strings in water with a bit of washing up liquid in, as a degreaser and crap-remover -- like Ben said, watch out when it comes to the boil though, the suds go mental! After about 5 mins on a boil, I remove them and let them dry, before a quick wipe down with a rag with surgical spirit on it. Cleans them up like new and puts at least a couple of gig's worth of life back in them. I don't play all that hard, which helps.

OK, so the strings I use (Warwick Reds) are pretty cheap anyway, but needs must in these turbulent times and all that.
Try the meth method it is so much better at getting them nice an clean, also it won't rust the strings.

  9.
Apparently it was always part of Mark Gooday's plans to sell the company after it had become established. Which he would have done if Fender hadn't screwed him over.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Ashdown sell up to a larger organisation at some point.
They seem to be going that way.

  10.
Ashdown is one of the biggest brands but still very independent and based on a farm in Essex which aside from making great amps is one of the reasons I like them so much, i think once a brand becomes owned by a big corperation it often loses all the things that made them great in the first place, eg SWR, great little company then Fender bought them and since then nothing, I just hope Ashdown stays independent and doesnt cave in to some foreign company!
I know, they should stay independent, Mike from Ashdown has been messed about too much with corporate poo heads.
