This reminds me a bit of the hum problems some people had with the switching power supply with DHA pedals. If I remember rightly they'd hum loudly if the power supply was switched on before being plugged into the pedal. Obviously there's nothing to plug in with the tecamp combos, but I wonder if it's some kind of related problem? I'm really not technically minded enough to know how switching supplies work.
I think it's something to do with this. This only happened since I put something into the effects input and outputs (headphones, I DID ask where to put them! ) and it started, i took them out of the effects input/output (cant remember which) and it stopped, but then another time 30 minutes or so later it re-appeared, I turned it on and off and it was fine...
anybody got to the bottom of the hiss issues yet? could put up with it at the start, but finding it harder to live with now..
I've started to get it mate, I turn the amp on and off and it's abit of a lucky dip as to whether it returns or not
  3. My one and only ever fretless is currently my main bass, and it's unlined. I reckon I'd prefer a lined one though

Can you play through your headphones with the Puma 500? It doesn't have a designated phones input, but can you use any of the other inputs? Thanks

Personally I haven't noticed any hiss with my cabs at lower volumes, it's asif it isn't even on. I've cranked it to almost full just for a couple of notes to test the sound/hum and still nothing. Maybe I'm lucky?
  7.
I've had 5 strings before its just a matter of adapting to the extra width. Unless you have short sausages then maybe 5 s aren't for you. Mines a 4 str fretless and the fret board seems quite slick and the satin on the back increases playability. I got it just to indulge a whim for fretless but I am considering using it live at some point. Good luck with yours
Thanks, I'll heed your advice
  8. Haha, nice one mate How would you describe the neck on it? I find it quite difficult to play tbh, only because it's so wide for me. But maybe I just need super-slim necks and it isn't actually that wide..

  11.
'Ere we go: http://www.ariaguitars.com/int/03_products/pro_eb_sb_40.html This is the 4-string fretted version but yours will have broadly the same spec & materials - you'll find a lot more references & info if you Google for the basic SB-40 model. It's no longer in Aria's current model list, I remember looking at the SB reissues 5 or 6 years ago, because I always wanted an original Aria Pro SB when I was too young & poor to afford one! I'd guess that's about when yours originates from, if you bought it new then it was probably old stock. Jon.
Thanks for that, useful information How are they generally regarded? Even though the neck is abit of a pain for me having only owned a 4-string Jazz before it, the satin finish on the neck makes it nice to play. My new TecAmp combo has totally transformed it IMO, it was abit too dull and the attack was abit slow for my likings (basically it was a typical fretless!), but the TecAmp has really livened it up
  12. I got this bass online from purpleturtle music in Manchester around 6 months ago, and I haven't been able to find any information on it atall apart from this: http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/guitars...fl-19851/review No-where sells it and the one I have is the only one I've ever actually heard about, it's left-handed aswell Any info would be great thankyou, it's abit of a puzzle currently
True! But I would have struggled to ever get a 2x10 Cab in 8ohms at such a low price again If that Puma 500 head came out I would have bought it straight away. Yep...its my first light cab and its pretty small considering what I was expecting. I love cabs! Next step next year is finding another nice lightweight amp....maybe a Puma 500
I'd like to see someone having a go at making it removable tbh. I've seen it on here before, where someones taken a saw to a combo with very pleasing results, and as they weren't too bothered about re-sale value, they created a functional combo, stand alone cab and stand alone head out of the one unit. Just gotta be brave and have some know-how really, as is with many things in life. Unfortunately, I haven't much of either
I really want a Puma 500 now. I have £0. Piss
IMO maybe you should have bagged a combo and then atleast you would have the amp and a quality cabinet in one. You have alot of other gear that is similar to the cab you got, which you could've added to the combo for an even bigger rig if needed, and still be lightweight Edit: Sorry, you only have the Aguilar 212 and that isn't really lightweight. Fair play to you then my friend!
  16.
DR Fatbeams. 40-100. They feel a lot lighter than they are & the tone is huge and rich.
Thanks for that, had a look on talkbass and it seems they re-iterate what you say. Out of interest, are the coated strings just another model they sell un-coated? If so, which one?

Has anyone got a 210 combo or 112 combo then?!?!??! There are quite a few left on the site...I want one!
Got the 210 combo yeah. They rang me under 5 minutes after I ordered online from the Newcastle store to tell me it will be with me before 5:30pm tomorrow. Really, really excited
thanks for posting this, what a bargain event!! after much indecisiveness i bought a 2x12 last night! bit worried now though about it being the S212 and not the M212 and people saying bad things about them. think size wise it will suit me as space is an issue in my car. do people think this will work well enough as a stand alone cab to get decent volume or does it need another cab? is mainly for stage monitoring or smaller gigs without PA support (up to 150 people). play a rickenbacker 4003, want a fair range of sound, punchy but still deep. in a rock 3 piece vs a drummer & guitarist with fender hot rod deluxe. i do need a fair bit of volume as i'm often up front singing. am not actually sure on what head to use yet as this was a rushed decision to go with tecamp! my options would have been Mark Bass II/III, Orange Bass Terror or Genz 6.0 or 9.0, but now i'm considering getting a puma 500 head to go with it. any comparison recommendations? i guess the matching head would be nice if there's not much in it and its way cheaper. if people think this isn't enough power/volume alone i'd consider getting the tecamp 1x12 combo to go with it - with this be a natural pairing for the cab? any advice appreciated :-)
Firstly you'd need to check if the 2x12 is 8ohm or not, as the 1x12 is only compatable with one other 8 ohm unit. If it was, then that'd put you at 500W through 3x12" speakers; sounds pretty damn good to me!
  22.

Wow, what are those grooves in the fretboard at the body-end? Also, how many pick-ups are under there?
  23. As I won't be able to get a new bass until around Christmas, and the B-string of my 5 string fretless isn't required in my band currently (coupled with the difficulty I find with the wide, shallow neck), I'm going to use my 4-string Jazz. The strings are completely and utterly dead on it and therefore the bass sounds awful. So, I'm looking to get some new strings for it , preferrably ones that I can transfer over to my new bass in a couple of months time I play in a metal band (in standard tuning), and I like a warm, full tone with 'focused' mids, with the furthest I venture to usually being the 3rd string. I play with my fingers so I want strings that can be played very fast as easy as possible I was thinking of D'Addario Pure Nickel Half-Rounds or D'Addario Chromes Flatwound in regular light gauge, but any other suggestions are welcome Cheers Lewis
