Oops nearly missed you Alan. Congratulations on your Aniversary. I've not made that long in all my marriages added together
Seriously, you really shouldn't worry, I say that having heard you play.
Have a great hol, did Crete in the Navy as a Rating in whites, mind that was in the early 70's It was great.
Peter -
I would go a bit further.
Upper Horn basses - Why?
Given that your thumb doesn't go over the neck what's its purpose other than putting the strap button in the right place, so why not have it going all the way down to the neck?
Apologies for the bigger than intended font -
Price wise I don't think that there is a 'standard' price just as Alan doesn't really make a 'standard' bass. Price is between Alan and yourself according to spec.
Some prices are shocking and make you frown, some are shocking and make you smile. Alan's are to me the latter.
Peter -
Oh, and the sustain is really remarkable btw!

I thought I'd better add my ACG comments in the thread it really belongs to
There's only one thing in my bass life that's better than having a bass made by Alan and seeing photos of it, and that's actually having your mitts on it.
As of 11 am today I did just that.
The real thing is even better than I anticipated (and that's really something). The quality is peerless and the pre-amp is intuitive although I've only just started my sonic exploration.
Alan's neck shaping is amazing as the neck is shallow and assymetric, it's a real piece of art, that works. Upper fret access to the 24th is brilliant and the bass makes me want to learn to play it to a level that suits its quality and ability.
Absolutely dead chuffed Alan a big public thank you! -

What a completely superb result. You must give me some gig dates Paul as I'm 'seeing' someone who lives near Manchester and would love to see and hear your Harlot in the fleish'.
I'm off to Moffatt today

I have Sunbeams strung tru on my JO5.
-
Who needs words -
The TRB neck is very wide and flat, i.e. not a D. I love it.
-
Just to say I'm coming to the gig on Sat and I've got a Epi 4ohm 500W 2x10" if you need it Alan

It sounds really good, very versatile. How much of that is down to the 3 band fender 18v EQ I can't say. The B string is the best I've ever played and it's a 34" scale which blows all the arguments for a 35"+ away.
Finger noise is pretty big too but that'll be down to the strings. Maybe some nickels are needed?
Certain notes really make the body resonate which feels good. The string spacing is fine if it's the only bass you play and I kinda pick it up pretty quick.

Hiya and welcome here. I'm not far away and I reckon its even wetter up here.
Jetglow Ric, nice one -
I was hoping for some sun this morning to take some decent photos but if there's sun out there it's wet!
I've had the BB for a while and its not for sale. Mucho Mojo It's been fitted with a Fender 3 band EQ pre powered by 18v. It's string spacing is what you'd expect from a 4 string bass with an extra string squeezed in. This is the original 5 string Yamaha and is well over 20 years old.
So there she is. -
pics please - like now!!!!!!
Hehe
Tomorrow! I promise. -
Very nice Aandra. But is it as rare as my BB5000? Neck thru I guess?
All the best with the sale, a great series of basses.
Peter -
By far the lightest bass I've ever seen is my Bass collection 4 string. Seriously underrated basses. I did have a 5 string for a while and that too was very light.
-
Thanks for letting us know. I've bid on a couple of your Jaco books. Fingers crossed!

I won't use roundwounds on a fretless solely due to the wear issue although they can sound really good. I've had good experience with both La Bella Deep Talkin' and TI Jazz flats.
I find string height/setup is vital, especially with flats.
Deep talkin are probably my faves
Quite Low/Midsy, not zingy. -
That's a brilliant review there daf. I'm pretty excited as my ACG isn't far away from being ready. Hmm... you've got me thinking, my Warwick fretless already has 4 holes in it
-
we played really well
That to me says it all Alan. You played well despite difficult conditions. What more can you do except be chuffed with that. A lot of people don't actually like ANY music. I can't imagine that myself.
Peter -
My Harlot's in the booth, no, no the spray booth.
I really do believe that it's the most sumptious bass Alan has ever built. It's going to be everything I wanted and, ... well here it is:>
Big
Peter -
As several have said, sometimes we have to accept that we've lost out and move on. If it were me I'd probably get a good quality repair done and keep the beast.
You are obviously beyond reproach and that's a credit to you as so many aren't nowadays. -
If you get a chance do
Great man is Alan and Moffat's well worth a visit, even if you don't like shortbread, Pringle sweaters etc.

I find that lowering the action produces the Mwaah but too much and it 'chokes' the string.
Even with the above I've found that every fretless I've owned has more Mwaah on the lighter gauge strings and that the B on a 5 is pretty much Mwaahless
