Then certainly a refinish would be order and probably not that much considering the surface area to be painted 😄

The Demeter as far as I’m aware doesn’t come with a DI as standard, it’s an upgrade option

Sounds to me like there’s more going on with that neck than just a poorly built bass

have you had the neck off to see if it’s been shimmed wrong? 
Is the truss rod maxed out or just spinning?

Depending on the work carried out including strings £100  wouldn’t be unusual in todays market.
