1. "I'm trying to sell it babe, honest, look here's the advert... it's not my fault if the market's sluggish is it? Look, why don't I just keep it for now and we try to sell some of your shoes instead? You've got an awful lot of them and... love, put that kitchen knife down... you've got a lot and you've never even worn some of... ok, joke's over, put the knife down... errm, sweetheart..?..."

  2. I love Gary Willis' playing, and his innovative technology-embracing approach. And his solos are so melodic, more often than not you can actually whistle along with them. For me, that is the mark of a good solo -- anybody can arse about pointlessly in E all day, but it takes real imagination to actually turn it into a tune.

I'm hooked on 33.3" scale now - big money option though as I only know of Jens Ritter that makes them!

33⅓? Presumably it's an LP bass then (Long Playing, not Les Paul)..? :D

oh don't worry, I'm already wearing my coat

When your first post in a left-handed area is to make petty remarks about things like "left-handed amps, cabs, strings, etc." I do have to wonder exactly why you're bothering.
It wasn't a petty remark at all. It was part of a perfectly valid point of view (as valid as yours or anyone else's) regarding the value and/or practicality of segregated LH and RH 'areas'. You seem to be looking for offence where it was neither present nor intended and I really don’t know why. What I am 'bothering' to do is merely attempt to take part in the debate, as is my entitlement as a member of this forum.
The assumption would be that you're not left-handed. Are you just trolling in the LH area?
Three things.
    1. Actually, I am lucky enough to be (to a degree anyway) ambidextrous. Although I don't quite see what this has got to do with it, as I have not criticised or made fun of LH players or people in any way as far as I am aware?
    2. No I'm not 'trolling'. See previous remark re: 'valid point of view'.
    3. What 'LH area'? As far as I am aware, this forum has never had a 'LH area', or a 'RH area' for that matter.
I really don't understand the level of animosity you seem to have for me. Did I spill your pint or something?

Regarding it being 'squirreled' away, follow this topic and then you get told when someone posts something in this thread and you can come straight here without navigating.
Also, of course, it's pinned at the top of the section so it's a lot easier to find than if it was 'floating free' so to speak.
By that, I mean rightys coming into this thread to tell left-handed people things like "get over yerself" or "you shoulda learned other way, then (insert vapid advantage here)".
OK, I've just been through all 268 posts of this entire thread and can find no occurrences of anything like that happening whatsoever in the just-over-a-year that it's been here. So why assume that it's suddenly going to happen? Isn't that just a teensy bit negative?
And if you're going to say 'left-handed people', how about saying 'right-handed people' too, rather than 'righty'? I note that thus far you've not used the word 'lefty' to refer to LH players.

  6.
without rightys butting in just to troll the issue.
Presumably by that you mean, "right handed people expressing a perfectly valid opinion of their own"?
Oh and by the way, I'm not a 'righty', I'm a 'bass-player'. Same as you.

We're playing with them again in Newcastle next month. I wonder if he'll ask to use it again? I've got a funny feeling he will.
I've a feeling he'll be either a} using his own rig, b} DI-ing, or c} very quiet

There are other LH-friendly places online, like leftyfretz.com, etc.
The suggestion being that this place is LH-unfriendly..?
I'm just trying to gauge the interest here to see what would be the best way to serve the LH members.
I'd have said in much the same way as it is now. Until manufacturers start producing left-handed amps, cabs, strings, FX, tuners, etc etc etc, I can't see much point in an entire dedicated section. Surely if you want to discuss a purely left-handed issue, you just post in the same area as all the other discussions? Otherwise what's to stop us ending up with a sunburst-only section, or a Stingrays-only section, or any one of a million other categories? Where's the difference?

'king hell ! I hope the area gets flooded with pickpockets and these touts get robbed themselves!
Ye gods. From that site: Saturday 3oth August, 3 tickets available for the Stalls, for a mere £1430 EACH.

I wonder if Ms Bush knows that this is going on? I would hope that she'd be horrified.

If it had been someone from the Labour party (or probably any party in opposition) the result/response from the media would have been [s]completely the opposite and showing they were in fact, down with the kids[/s]. pretty much exactly the same, only with the abuse coming from the Mail rather than the Mirror.
Fixed for depressing accuracy.

  11. I bet the OP is wishing he'd never said anything now. Such a lot of fuss over semantics.

In answer to the original question, but amended to suit the pedants: I personally have never gigged with flat EQ, but I do sometimes set all my amp's tone controls to zero.
    Is that better?

Forgot to mention the forum ( used to be town& country ) in Kentish town. Great venue.
Played there a couple of times, back in the 80s. One of the highlights of my gigging 'career'.

  13. Actually it's not quite so simple as that. The desk contains lots of pixies, who shovel all the incoming sound into wheelbarrows and cart it across to the speaker outputs, where it gets sprinkled with special EQ dust before they stuff it through the terminals and into the speaker cable. The trouble is that incoming sound with lots of bass in it is a lot heavier than normal sound, and the pixies find it more difficult to shovel into their barrows. Eventually they get so tired that they have to stop for a rest, and thus can't carry any sound to the outputs at all. But sound keeps arriving at the desk, and without the pixies to carry it around it slowly fills the inside of the desk and asphyxiates them.
So when the tech says he's replacing output transformers, what he's actually doing is bunging some more pixies in.

My first pedal is going to be a mute pedal. Essentially a killswitch so I can mute my amp and unplug my bass.
For an added bit of interest on your mute pedal, why not give it a flashing LED? Makes it a lot more obvious that the killswitch is engaged, as it were :D I did this for a mute switch I built some time ago and it work really well. I used the circuit and calculations on this pic -- it's a tiny circuit and easy to make up on a little scrap of vero, I mounted mine on the legs of the LED itself. R3 can be lower in value than 1k if you prefer a brighter LED.

The good Doc would always be my first port of call, but on the occasions that he doesn't have what you're looking for, these are worth a look too. Their P&P costs are higher though.
