Marking them sold is manageable at the moment; most sellers do it and a mod can then just lock the thread. Moving the thread elsewhere creates an issue as only a mod could do that and it would get very complicated when someone withdraws something then wants it live again, it wouldn’t work with our payment recognition system for one thing. Thanks for the suggestion though, I see what you’re saying and think it would be nice to be able to do things like that but the software just doesn’t support it.
Thanks Ped, I was thinking you could just get it to sort the items not marked as Sold to the top of the list, but I guess you would need some sort of additional status field for that, which may not be possible with this software.

In direct response to your question then, I think it’s a bad idea. If sellers did what they are supposed to do with their listings, there wouldn’t be an issue. To bounce that problem over to the Mods/Admins seems a little unfair. I mean, I’d happily police the marketplace as I spend several hours a day surfing it anyway, but it doesn’t really solve the issue.
I may have this wrong, but I thought all the sellers had to do was mark their goods as Sold. If that's the case then even if they all did so we would still have exactly the same problem as old unsold items would still be way back in the listings - or is there more to it than that?

Currently the sold adverts are useful for our Google ranking. It’s difficult enough to get sellers to mark items as sold let alone grant them the permission to move the thread to sold, and it’s a big job to ask moderators to do. Even then, we’d end up with some incorrectly sorted. I’d suggest sorting your search results by date and working backwards. Cheers
Thanks for responding Ped. I can understand why it's a good idea to retain the Sold items, and I do sort by date, but that still leaves items that haven't been sold or bumped sometimes several pages back in the search, which necessitates ploughing through the same sold items every time. However from the response so far the answer to my question seems to be YES, I am the only one who finds it a problem.

This thread has gone into a completely different orbit. My original point was: we currently have 6 sort criteria on the forums (or is it Fora?), some of which are probably almost never used. Would it not be possible to add one more criterion to enable users to separate the Sold items (or those that are marked sold) from the as yet Unsold items? I was hoping for an answer from one of the Administrators of the database, and perhaps anyone else who thought it would be a good idea?

Hi,
I can't be the only Basschatter who begrudges wasting time ploughing through entries in the For Sale forums that are already sold. Would it not be possible to put this in the Sort criteria so we could have all the items not containing the word "sold" at the beginning of the list?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did get some other quotes from £400 to £1000+ which didn't seem like a great investment, and having claimed over £20k on my house insurance last year for burst pipe damage I didn't want to go down that route either, so I think on balance I made the right choice.

Hi,
I ended up taking it to a local guitar repair workshop who said they could repair it but could not make it perfect. They were right. To be honest it doesn't look an awful lot better after their repair, however it is now sealed and smooth to the touch (believe they filled it with Superglue and sanded it down), and they only charged me £40. If you want to see photos it's now up for sale on this forum.

Up for sale now, this Rick Turner Renaissance is one of the lightest 5 string basses out there at less than 3 Kg (6.5 lbs). It has a new set of the recommended Thomastik-Infeld Acoustic strings on and is in pretty good nick apart from a dent on the top which has been filled and sanded down (shown in photos). Apparently Rob Allen used to work for Rick until he branched out on his own so as you might expect the ethos is much the same as Rob's - quality and simplicity with the accent on the acoustic properties of the bass. Comparing it to my RA's it has more depth and tonal range than the MB2, more like the Deep 5 (although not quite as awesome). Here's a link to the Rick Turner website http://rickturnerguitars.com/renaissance-bass . I bought it secondhand from outside this community so I don't know the provenance. In terms of trading, the only thing I need now is a fretless Mouse to complete my collection.
I can post to mainland UK for £30 or I can meet half way within a reasonable distance for the same cost, although free collection would be better.
Sensible offers welcome, I'll
probably give it a couple of weeks then put it on Ebay.

Maaan that is beautiful! Do you have any sound clips of it? I would be interested but I have a Marleaux fretless 5 to sell before I can buy another
are you interested in trades?
Sorry, I'm not up for a trade as I just have more 5 string basses than I can justify. This one's on ebay, the auction finishes on Saturday, if it doesn't sell maybe I'll do some clips next week.

This is going on Ebay over the weekend, so if anyone wants to do a deal, sooner might be better than later.

This is a beautiful bass which I haven't had very long, unfortunately the string spacing is not quite right for me at 16.5mm. This, coupled with the fact I've now bought a replacement, means it's up for sale. Quite stunning to look at, very lightweight, it plays like a dream and the East active controls give a massive tonal range. Complete with Custom case. Here's the full spec:

Would love a Deep 4 or 5 to go with my Mouse and MB2. Yours looks gorgeous! I’ve also considered a Shuker Artist and I also love the Rick Turner Renaissance; I’d be really interested to know your thoughts on how these three great basses compare.
Firstly IMHO they are all excellent basses. The Shuker is fabulous looking and does everything it should, the only reason it's not quite right for me is the string spacing is not enough for my long fingers (16.5mm), especially as I play upright quite a bit. The build quality is terrific, the active tone controls have excellent range and there’s plenty of Mwah if you want it. The Rick Turner is amazing - incredibly lightweight, really high build quality and it is great for me with 17.5 mm string spacing. It's totally unique in the design, it has the simplistic ethos of the Rob Allen but the acoustic strings make it feel and sound rather different. The only bass I would ever change it for would be the Deep 5, and I'm still not sure about selling it just yet. I've attached some pics. I see you're quite local to me, PM if you want to give them a try.

A Big brother for my Mb2.
I've been hankering after one for some time now, but with Rob's policy now of only making what suits his business, as opposed to what customers dictate (which is fair enough if he is able to do it), and the rarity of secondhand ones available the likelihood of me getting one looked pretty slim - especially considering my very specific requirements (fretless, unlined, min 17mm string spacing). I just thought I would try my luck on the Owners' Facebook page, and lo and behold I got lucky, a great guy in Italy responded, we did a deal and I am now the proud owner of a Deep 5 to go with my Mb2 4 string. I must admit I was slightly twitchy about sending a not insignificant sum of money to a complete stranger in a foreign country, but I trusted my luck to PayPal's compensation policy and bit the bullet. Antonio turned out to be a really great guy and the bass was in my hot little (actually big) hands within a few days and I couldn't be more pleased. Initially the action was too low for me - lots of lovely Mwah but not much attack and rather inclined to buzz on the low B, but a half turn on the truss rod did the trick and all is now great.
This now means there will be no real point in having any other 5 string basses, so I'll be selling a couple of very nice ones soon
in the form of a Shuker Artist 5 and Rick Turner Renaissance 5. Probably when things have normalised a bit more and hopefully the Bass community will be more comfortable spending money on bass guitars.

I can't see any way of editing a For Sale post to show it is now sold. Other members seem to be doing it, am I just a dimwit?
Another question that arises from this is why is there not a separate category for Sold Items - as it now stands someone looking through items for sale has to plough through all the Sold items as well. Whilst it's nice to be able to reference previous sales to gauge prices, they make it difficult and longwinded to find ones currently for sale.
Lastly, I often search the site for a relevant post on a particular subject and am shown no results, however if I search Google it will find one on the site, does the site search facility have a very limited range?
Thanks in advance for your help..
