1. I agree that they are beautiful basses, unfortunately I have a huge urge for a fretless at the moment which has lead me to put mine up for sale;
So I've got a PBS 5 I'm thinking of selling if anyone's interested?

Here's a link to the thread:

  2. Hi all,
for sale/trade is my beautiful Hudson 'PBS 5' 5 string bass guitar. I bought this about a year ago of Ebay and since then it has served me very well. It really is a massive shame as i really love how this bass feels and looks and i know that I'll regret this sale as soon as I put it in the post or hand it over. But I would feel worse just leaving it unplayed and gathering dust (don't worry it ain't dusty yet).

It is also worth noting that this bass is literally exactly the same as a Cort Curbow Elite (apart from the headstock) and the Tanglewood Canyon II, so playing one of them will make a great test if your thinking of grabbing this off me.

    Some spec:
    Neck through construction
Spalted Maple top, with mahogany body
Maple and mahogany 5 piece neck
    nut width, 44mm
    frets, 24
    scale length, 865mm
weight, 3.5kg (much lighter than my bloody 4 ton Ibanez)

You can see from these photos the small amount of aesthetic damage around the jack input as well as, the place where it used to say 'project bass' and i got rid of it. None of these marks are at all obvious unless you really speculate.

If you're thinking of a trade I'm currently looking for a good sturdy 4 string. I'm also open to cash offers or trades for cabs/combos.

I am up for posting but obviously i would rather have a collection. I live near Totnes, in between Exeter and Plymouth (Devon). I can't drive...

    Price drop to £230!

    Any questions are very welcome!

  3.
Yes, it's an old Matrix Series I. Looks like the volume & pickup pan controls have been replaced. That disc around the volume control looks like it's been added as a repair, rather like a lot of the brass plates you get around the jack input sockets on JayDees. Bridge is non-standard as well, I think.

Thanks to the OP for costing me £8 btw... Never heard Lily before & I've just bought the album off iTunes since this little bit of research!
Everytime i see your picture, I wish I could have your bass so much...mmmm...

  4. Thanks for the help, the harmonized major scale bit seems to be the kinda thing i was looking for. But next time i have a spare tenner i'll definitely think about getting the Fingerboard harmony book.

And in response to Youma; Despite the fact I have only recently started listening to jazz regularly recently, i have been playing jazz for years since i was wee when i tackled life with a trumpet, so i do enjoy it a lot it's just taken a while to set in as a genre I listen to a lot.
To be honest i have no idea why I've taken so long 'cause, I'm finding stuff like Maiden Voyage, Milestones as well as some contemporary and fusion stuff like Robert Glasper, Weather Report, Chick Corea's Elektric band, John Patitucci and it's all brilliant. And i know i wont become the Hendrix of bass...:)

    Thanks everyone,

  5.
That is a beautiful looking Bass.
If you want my "10 penneth", stick an ACG pre-amp in it.
Can't see what the pick-up is, but if you want to change it, speak to Andy at Wizard pick-ups. If they don't produce something that size, send the pick-up to them and they will re-wind it to your spec.
OR sell me the Bass and i'll do it. :)
Cheers, what are wizard pickups like then? I did find them in my initial search for a nice new pickup but i had never heard of it so i went on looking for cheap Bartolinis and the like. The size shouldn't be an issue though my teacher seems to think it's the exact size of a stingray 5 pickup.

And In responce to Burpster, I forgot to mention initially that i don't think i will get a bartolini pickup and preamp as my other bass is fully bart'd up so i wanna get something a little different. But yeah you are right they sound utterly beautiful on my other bass.

I already had a look at EMGs aswell and they're definitely an option.

Cheers for the help everyone, any more ideas will still be appreciated!

  6. Hello everybody,
I have a 5 string bass which is obsolete to my new 6 string only because of it's pickup and preamp, it seems a shame to sell or just keep it all alone in my room so my next money draining project will be making it comparable to my beautiful Ibanez (If that is at all possible).

And a nice arty photo just to show off...

I plan to put a high C on this bass instead of ye olde low B. I'm thinking of using this as my dropped D bass for live shows and maybe putting an ebony ramp in between the pickup and the neck. I may also change the Bridge at some point, but that's less important.

So yeah... any bright ideas on a good preamp and pickup set or combination?

    Thanks again

    Jamie

  7.
Those barts are indeed lovely. My SR20th has them and I love their tight sound. Though I still have plenty of use for my Trace 12-band :)

I'm sure I saw this on Talkbass, so it may have been a limited edition as you say. In any case, it's one of the nicest looking Ibanez I've seen. The only thing it's missing is a Wenge fretboard - my favourite fretboard wood.

Speaking of which, check out the link in one of my previous postings on this thread to see this year's addition to the SR range - probably the finest Ibanez I've seen and an absolute dream for all fans of the Wenge.
I have already spied them out, they are indeed fine... although they do cost £2000, so i wont be getting one of them soon.

I think the one on Talkbass has a burled Poplar top instead of ye olde mahogany.

    Cheers

  8. A semi? You have a great deal of control!

I don't think it is custom shop but maybe limited edition.
Heres what i know: I bought it from America where it was made in 2006, it is 'used' but i think it must have only been a dissatisfyed customer who sent it back because there is no wear at all and the strings were completely new (First time i've experienced Elixir strings... they're like condoms over my strings...).

The top is Mahogany and the other half of the wings are made from bubinga, it's top is quilted but the bottom isn't. Anyone whose played with these Barts will know hoe beautiful they are, they are briliant, but sadly render the GP11 in my Trace head almost useless (for now).

Thanks for the envy guys :)

    Jamie
