Just started a Harmonica for Lung Health course. Lesson 3 on Thursday.

I'm told it's a really good effective tool with added benefits just clean it out regularly I use a cheap ultrasonic cleaner and a soak in Milton, thats why I go for the plastic bodies rather than the nicer wood ones.

Learn how to strip it down.

I'll warn you now, Harps are like basis the correct number is #+1

  2. For Irish and Scottish 'Paddy' tuning in A D & G will handle almost everything. Church and English folk is mostly Richter tunning. Americana is a mix try it in one tuning and if that doesn't work try the other. For Greensleeves and Scarborough Fair you need a cross tuned. Draw bending is just practice and not worrying about making an F'ing racket while you learn, preferably miles from anyone or anything😱. Some Harps are easier to bend than others.

There are some awesome harpists out there but nearly all Blues and Rock

  3. I have over 30 including a couple of chromatics but always have a couple of diatonics to hand in key of G, Richter and Paddy Richter tunings not much I can't play on those, small and simple. After many harps my preference is the Seydel session steel although the Lee Oskar melody maker and Hohner special20 are good.

  4. FINALLY!! Hohner CX12 in Eb arrived yesterday (ordered September last year so 7 months, roll on Stranger on the Shore and Moon River in their original key😁.

TBH I've already got hold of a Eb Chromonica from somewhere else, prefer the sound of the CX though.

  5. OK bit of a step change from the usual on here. Hopefully the link will work.

I've been listening to dozens of versions, trying to get it thoroughly into my head and to me this is the best version I've come across. I could listen to this on a loop all day, the acoustics of the venue and feeling the musicians play with raises the hairs on the back of my neck at some points.

  6. I find  I prefer the Aulos. I used to play a lot and was quite good

I have both the descant and tenor though I don't play as much since I lost the tip of my left thumb which make playing the top notes a bit awkward.

  7. Thankfully I don't seem to have this issue and we accept each other's hobbies. I think my bass collection is complete with the addition of the shorty from Jabba. Harmonicas on the other hand are bloody limitless once you get into them - different types then all the different tunings (especially the diatonics) but she's very understanding and knowledgeable on music stuff. I was trying to work out a tune yesterday "That's in Eb, and you'll need a chromatic. Do you have an Eb chromatic?". I suspect Eb chromatics are like hobbyhorse poo.

On the other hand I have no problems with the daily parcels of posh cosmetics and the mind boggling collection of top end colouring pencils in a truly staggering range of (apparently different) shades.

  8. Now exploring low keys, 3 Hohner Thunderbirds C,A&G and a Dabell (F)so far. Collection up to 28 and counting. Confident enough to open mic and busk now, when covid permits. mostly diatonics but a full set of Chromatic CX12s as well as a couple of Tremolos.

Early  New  Year ambitions are Stone Fox Chase and Orange Blossom Express.

  9. Just had a chance to try it out properly for the first time, started working through some 5 string familiarisation exercises, playing through a Street Cube while I wait for a new markbass to arrive. Loving the sound, even got an ooh! from @Newwiekins 😊

  10. Yeah, you have my sympathy, I've had weeks like that. There are days weeks even years in our lives when the pile of dung just seems to get deeper, you can't see a way out and everyone just seems to want to add to the pile. Just have to think 'This too will pass' put your head down, do what you can and not be afraid to ask/accept help.

  11. After yet another 'sorry but....' email this morning I phoned gear4music to see if there was any prospect of my Cab coming in, they said the latest rom their supplier was it should be in the 26/27th, but they weren't hopeful. I'm just going to chillax and wait with no expectations of anything happening soon.

  12. Had a message from Jabba, the plan is to sort out the details this weekend so maybe a NBD in the next week or so. I think that will probably be my bass collection complete 😁

That just leaves the new bass cab to arrive, vok knows when that'll happen🙄
