  1. I have owned & sold:

    - Harley Benton Acoustic Fretless 5 (sold 2011)

    - Harley Benton BZ-6000, (sold June 2020),

    - Harley Benton E-1335 II sunburst (gtr)

    - Harley Benton JB-75MN Black Vintage Series (sold October 2020)

    - Harley Benton CST-24HB (sold January 2022) (gtr)

    - Harley Benton PB-20 SBK (for sale @ my mother's)

    - Harley Benton HB-35 Plus - Metallic Blue (Sold August 2022) (gtr)

All good instruments. I have been buying and selling over the past few years, trying stuff. Granted i never really dared modifying my instruments past new strings, a set up & sometimes adding little visual elements to them. I havent kept pics on my phone but i have a bunch of videos on my "artist page" on Fb: neillien. There U can see the basses, hear them & make fun of my playing ;°P

I am usually broke so i can't keep instruments if i want to invest in smthg else. But i trust Harley Benton. In fact the one thag left yesterday just funded the gtr that should arrive on Monday...

Ah also: same thing for me: i didn't know that basses needed to go through a set up to have them the way U want. My first bass was a Cort Action Bass and i almost quit playing because of how physically unpleasant & difficult it was to fight the instrument. So if U are gonna sell an instrument to a beginner, SOME set up should be done before shipping & i think it should indeed be mentioned in reviews so that people documenting themselves on their next purchases know what to expect & can anticipate either the costs of having a professional set up done, or teaching themselves how to do it.... the air conditioning blades comparison does not work here.

It's difficult to tell from these pictures if it's the entire fingerboard, or if it's just the binding that's coming loose. It does look like the neck has a bit of a bow whereas the fingerboard has not. These basses have a very rigid "resinator" fingerboard (50/50 wood fibres and resin) that may make the neck harder to adjust. Could be an easy fix.

I've always find these basses intriguing, I like the pickup switching options on these.

Yeah... i might ask for more pics.. the bass is in Bilbao and i am near Seville... didn't know about "resinator" fingerboards!! Thanks for the info!

It just looks like the edge of the lacquer flaking back from the join between neck and binding to me.

But, it's a big gamble to take going on photos., unless you are able to reglue the fretboard if needed and the price reflects this.

If the price is top money then I wouldn't take the risk.

The asking price is 350€.. which is the cheapest i have ever seen any of those.. and i would have to sell my CV Mustang for this bass...

I have owned a Hagstrom Viking and 2 warwick star basses in the past

both are excellent instruments, and i would recomend either if you are looking for a semi

im currently using a Chowny 30" short scale semi which is great and these basses are good value for money

and worth considering along with the Hagstrom and warwick basses

i would be dubious about buying the Hagstrom with a damaged neck.

it may turn out out to be ok ,but its a big gamble.

One thing that i noticed is that last week that bass was marked as "reserved" which would mean that someone already went there, tried it & didn't buy, or someone bought it and shipped it back... which is something you can do through the second hand app that's popular here, as long as it is within 48 hrs of recieving the parcel..

The fact that is was "reserved" for a few days, & then back on the market doesn't look good, does it? Mmmmh... 😔

  3. Dear Fellaz & Fellazettes !

I have been G.A.S.ing really bad for a Rockbass Starbass... but prices both new & second hand are ruling out that option & i started looking for other cheaper options. Then i found this on the second hane market here in Spain. The asking price is 350€ with HSC.

BUT there is a massive problem: looks like the fingerboard is coming off the neck, no?

In the add, seller says that he has sent pics to a luthier, & that luthier said that it was fine, that all he had to do is file it down so he wouldn't feel it while playing.

And this is why i am writing here today: what do U all think? Buy or pass? Is easily fixable??

Also, can anyone decypher the serial number for me? Is that a 2013 bass??

If that Mustang is still humming after shielding, check the continuity of the shielding. Does it go away when you touch the strings/bridge?  I shielded my JMJ but still had some hum, I found I wasn’t getting continuity from the pickup rout to the control rout. Ran an extra piece of copper tape from the pickup rout over the top of the body so it made contact with the control plate - all peachy.

    I like those pickguards.

    Hey there !

Thanks for the info! There is continuity between the bridge & cavity & from component to component. Someone on Fb told me to check if that whole shielding i did was connected to ground on the output jack, and in order to check that i would need to open it up again & get the soldering iron etc... which i have been putting off til tomorrow for a month or so loooool...

The pickguards are the original ones, with a marble vinyl sticker on top. Quite a PITA to get it right, & they will try to unstick every chance they get, but it looks cool indeed,  Thanks for noticing!

  5. Well i guess my #1 is that Squier CV Mustang with LaBella  MUS flats, but it hums quite a lot despite shielding the PG & cavities, so until i can re-open it & sort that out... i'll take the Bronco to rehearsals & gigs.

GASsing really bad for a Sire U5, but can't afford it...20220207_140210.thumb.jpg.43fd3541e188d133e14bf519cb664c57.jpg

  6. Dear Fellaz & Fellazettes,

    How are U all doing?

I don't know how many of U are aware of Keith William's Five Watt World channel that does "Short History" videos of emblematic guitars & basses... Just in case U didn't know, he just released this video:

    Hope U like it!

    Oh maaaan!

I used to have a Fame Baphomet 6 string 5 years ago & it's the only bass i regret selling.. well maybe that Rockbass Starbass too... but i am swapping my SR506 for a defretted neck-through Baphomet this week..

The basses i have & would never sell are basically the two i own:

    - RMI Quantum Dominic di Piazza Signature 6-string by Mark Ramsay

    - Ibanez BTB846SC

Okay so i lied. I have sold all three basses (Baphomet, BTB & RMI). They have found better homes & are in good hands now...

I did a lot of mods to a Bronco, which I sold recently. I did start a thread about machine heads and then discovered some drop ins. To quote the thread:

I don’t know whether these are any better than the originals, or whether you can order from Spain without huge Brexit related customs hassles. If you just have a dodgy machine head that needs replacing and want to stick with a drop in; I have the original tuners for my Bronco, which you can have for nothing but the price of postage. Message me if you want them.

Edit: forgot about the bridge. It depends whether you want to stay with the Bronco string spacing , look and mount holes. I wasn’t bothered about sticking with the look. I found a replacement, high mass bridge with 18mm spacing (0.5 MM more than standard), 4 saddles and roughly the same mount holes on eBay for very little but it came from China. The standard adjustment screws didn’t provide enough movement to get the intonation correct on strings 3 and 4, so I had to source shorter screws. To be honest, it was a lot of hassle and I wish I had just gone for a standard Fender style 4 saddle bridge with different mount holes and 19mm spacing. Yes a bit of hassle getting it aligned but the OEM bridge wasn’t aligned on the centre line anyway. Broncos are built at a price. Just get one with a big enough baseplate to cover the original mounting holes.

If retaining the original string spacing is important to you, Babicz and Schaller do bridges with adjustable string spacing but they are going to cost 70-80% of what you paid for the Bronco in the first place. You will never recover that outlay. I probably spent around £280 on buying and modding the Bronco and sold it for £120. Lesson learnt as far as I am concerned.

    Hey there!

Thanks for all that info! I just sent U a private message! 🙏🙏🙏😊

    I love that marbled pick-guard!!

Thanks! It's just a vinyl sticker. And i'll probably have to redo it as it is making bubbles here & there, & the area around the lower horn doesn't stick well. I wonder if using a hair dryer would help... do U guys know? Or would it ruin it?

  10. Dear Fellaz & Felazettes!

How are U all doing? Hello from Spain!

I am a recent short scale convert, coming from 6 string, 34/35" basses. Hand injury, small budget & lack of space made me consider a transition to short scale & i am so happy with those two that my 6 string & my fretless are currently up for sale, & i am considering selling my Classic Vibe Precision hehe....

The Mustang is stock for now & it might well stay that way if i like the Labella MUS that should arrive soon.
The Bronco got new 500K pots, 0.047 cap, wiring, dual rail humbucker & D'Addario Chrome Tapewounds. If anyone knows about drop-in tuners (i've read about the Ping P2681, but they are nowhere to be found in my area) & cheap Musicmaster bridges or 4-saddle replacement bridges, that would be awesome.

  11. Ronda is quite nice too yeah, both the center & the little hikes that allow U to see the city from other angles!

Thanks @jazzburger! I guess i have learned a lot from those dark times yeah. The only two downsides are:

    - it's no fun while U are in it,

    - i've lost 4 years of practice on the instrument!

But anyway, it's all part of the process ! Do U guys create Ur own music? Share it somewhere maybe?
