As ever something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. If no one is willing to buy it, it won’t sell. At this point the price has to come down or the seller is stuck with it. It’s not worth getting upset about.

I doubt anybody is actually getting upset about it. We're most likely to laugh if off and look elsewhere. That's what I do anyway.

It could just have been someone using the eBay recommended pricing, which is hardly ever accurate but may well have just used a standard USA Stingray as the template.

Yes I suppose I can't rule this out. I guess I'm hyper-sensitive to chancers. Recently on Reverb (March 2025) I saw a used Fender Professional Jazz V that was completely stock and the seller wanted £5.5k for it. I messaged him and he confirmed that was the price and it wasn't a typo. The delivery charge was about £200 and this was for mainland UK delivery. They're out there...

Does it out you off the buyer though? It’s either going to be a complete chancer or someone who doesn’t really know what they have and have now lowered it after being made aware. Both scenarios I find off putting for a purchase.

Yes I find it off-putting in all honesty but you have a point that it could have been genuine ignorance. Because it was a viewed item by me the Ebay algorithm went to work and fired the e-mail.

Just seen an EBMM SUB 5 on Ebay just now,£2,352.72 or best offer. The "lesser" Stingray with the textured body and aluminium pickguard that I've seen go for as low as £550 or thereabouts.

So Ebay just e-mailed me to let me know it's now been reduced by £1,479.00 to 873.72. I won't be cracking the champagne bottle and reaching for my wallet JUST yet...

To be fair though, the Rumble 100V3 wasn’t really designed to take on such loud situations.

This is true. It was my first time using this rehearsal space and when I entered and saw it I rolled my eyes before even plugging in. Big difference to the 90s era 50 watt Peavey I've used in similar situations that weighed an absolute ton. I think for amps that remain static for long periods (rehearsal rooms for example) more solid amps are the way to go.

Yamaha BB735a go for between 650 and 1100 same exact everything. Make this make sense? One thing that's a positive is that high end "heavy" cabinets are cheap, while lightweight cabs are at a premium. The sound is not as good I own 6 bass set ups and my lightweight Rumble 500 and Ampeg Porta 500 will never sound as good as my heavy stuff. I hought a Henry 8x8 for under $300.

In my limited experience lightweight cabs don't cut it compared to the heavier stuff so I can see with this. Rehearsal room last week had a Fender Rumble 100 combo that was so light it was almost hovering in mid-air! Awful sonic experience with a drummer and loud lead guitarist.

  7. My last (unbeknownst at the time) visit to PMT was in the Cambridge branch earlier in the year. I was a bit concerned when the sales staff tried to tune the 5 string bass before handing it to me and gave up admitting he didn't know what he was doing. He was using a clip on tuner and it took me seconds to remedy it after he gave it to me.

I have a Fender USA P5 and the 'B' string sounds very good to my ears. It's also around 9lbs, so not a back-breaker. Here it is on the right.

By any chance do you like white basses with tort pickguards and rosewood boards? Nice collection mate I'm just being silly 😂

In the Edinburgh branch this week - really bad if you play bass.

So not all branches are shut then?

  10. The best 5 string P bass I've personally played was neither from Fender or Squier but an Xotic XP-1t 5. It was an antique white variant that The Bass Gallery had for a while. I'm not a P bass fan in general but I'll never forget it.

When I’ve made the psychological decision to sell I just want it gone as quickly as possible.

Thank goodness it's not just me. I'm not running a business where profit is a factor.

I popped into Bristol branch last year whilst on a short trip. I left the shop with the same feeling. Nothing for me there.

Yep I was there briefly last November. Was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

Not to harp on but for context there's a 4 string example on here for £575.

Best just swerve these tryers. There's a number of regulars on here that are clearly dealers or at least semi-pro buyers and resellers that always have basses sat for years on end. We all know who they are!

    There's 3 options really:

    ● Price high and wait for years to sell if at all.

    ● Price about right and prepare to sit on it while until person that wants what you have comes along.

    ● Price lower and sell sooner.

The market often dictates price, so crazy prices just won't shift!

Agreed. Slightly frustrating though when it's something that doesn't show up often that I've been waiting on but hey...

  15. Oh how could I forget this one: Ebay again but this time a Yamaha RBX765a,you know the one that can sell for under £200? This one has been fitted with SIMS fretboard LEDs. £1,260.00. It's been there for about a year or so unsold and I can't think why.

I only scoop out the lower mids, like a blessed piece of fairy wood (ie. ‘62 alder, touched by Saint Leo)

"Saint Leo" only used alder because it was cheap and available but fairy wood still made me laugh 😃

I'm trying to get my hands on a Yamaha BB425X or 1025X but they seem as rare as a five legged horse, though there is the occasional overpriced one often in some remote corner of the country 'collection only', or from overseas with shipping costs half the price of the bass! 😂

Rigby Music in Stockport are advertising a red BB424X for £350 if anyone is interested however whether it's still for sale I couldn't say (what is it with music shops and dealers who persist in advertising guitar stock they sold six months ago ?🤔)interested

    Cheers, Steve

Hey Steve the Andertons 425X has been sold now. Was that you? ☺️

DV24 are still in Romford, just around the corner from PMT but DV24 are online only now. They seem to keep stock at Romford as well as Germany.

Although PMT has been my local music shop, I've tended towards Andertons or Thomann as they were generally more competitive.

Hobgoblin, the folk music chain have recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for their shops and are offering a 19% ownership share of the company through the raising of capital.

They are obviously feeling the pinch......

A staff member in DV247 when they closed to the public (Martin) in Romford managed to nab a position in PMT around the corner and now look.

What's ironic is the high status those basses have achieved coupled with (some) people's snobbery of Pau Ferro fretboards. I have no issue with PF and would really like to try a Roscoe Beck to see what I've been missing. Never seen one though so...

Talking about this has stirred my memory. I HAVE tried one,it was in Bassbros. The fact that I'd completely forgotten about it may speak for itself.

Those Roscoe Beck Fenders really are a Unicorn Bass these days. I'd imagine most are in the hands of collectors. I used to play one occasionally at a Jam Session in Nottingham in the 90s. Back then, it was just another nice Fender.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I love playing with Resolution 88, it’s been 10 years of great and quite challenging music. I mainly play an anaconda Ultra J bass elite but did and still play my Warwick infinity 5 when the music requires it. On the records I also  used a really nice 76 fender jazz bass that sounds great, super greasy.

thanks once again for the support!!

    Tiago

Ah you still have the Warwick. I remember it well from the Mau Mau Bar,blue in colour 👍

one of the main reasons I impulsively bought the tickets was seeing herbie Hancock and headhunters lol. I LOVE the albums they did together.

The bass player wasn’t playing a Warwick. I couldn’t tell what it was. It could have been a MTD as the headstock has a circle logo. Once I couldn’t tell I just enjoyed the music lol.

Absolutely love that Herbie era too. No I think Tiago moved that Warwick along some years back as I've seen him after that rocking a Sire at one point.
