Excuse my ignorance but does medium scale mean that it's shorter than something like a jazz or a precision?

Yes - it's 32.5" scale rather than the Fender 34" standard (short scale usually means around 30"). I discovered medium scales a while ago & that's all I play now - I find them much more comfy on the left hand.

If you want a rough idea of what a medium scale is like, tune a standard bass a semitone down & put a capo on the first fret. Everything's just that bit easier to reach! :)

2. Sold a bass to makssbass recently & it was a really straightforward transaction, even though it was a collection deal & we were at opposite ends of the country! Great guy to deal with - cheers!!! :)

3. Hi - my white Yamaha RBX4A2M with a rare medium scale (32.5") neck is up for sale. I'd describe it as a modern take on a Jazz & it's it's incredibly light compared to most other basses I've had. The bass is completely passive, but takes a battery for the light-up controls if that's your thing (leave the battery out & it works fine with no lights). Condition is very good - a couple of minor dings on the back, but everything else is fine. Really nice low action & punchy sound too - the shorter neck makes playing a breeze & it doesn't have that loss of tone that some shorter scales suffer from. I'm looking for £180 cash / collected in Newcastle upon Tyne. Will ship for £200 but will have to take the neck off to do it as there's no hard case (that's how it was sent to me & it was no problem - just needed to screw the neck on & restring).

No worries, I have a bunch of pedals for sale, an Ashdown amp and a Novation XioSynth......I imagine none of that piques your interest haha (although let me know if it does)

GLWTS though, lovely looking bass!

Thanks for the offer Si, but don't really need an amp or pedals at the mo & already have a XioSynth!

Cheers

5. Hi - I'm a bit reluctant to do this, but I'm just not playing as much as I'd like & this thing deserves to be more than just furniture! It was put together by the Bass Doc for me a few years ago. The late Jim Cairnes was a luthier based in the North East who was best known for souping up Chris Rea's guitars, but he also worked with the Bass Doc to make some beautiful basses.

A while back I started playing shorter scale instruments as I found them a bit easier on the left hand. I was speaking to the Bass Doc about this & he said he had a 32" scale neck made by Jim going spare, so we decided to build an instrument around it. It turned out pretty good!

It's currently strung with Status flats & sounds great. Specs are: -

32" scale birdseye / rosewood neck
Tulipwood body
Fender machine heads
ABM bridge
Dimarzio model J bridge pickup
Dimarzio model P copy from a Westone neck pickup (I had a real model P in there for a while, but prefered this one)

I posted a thread on it in Gear Porn before I upgraded the pickups - you can see it here.

It's only seen home use & condition's pretty good - there's a small ding to the headstock, but it was touched up. Ideally I'd like to do a cash / collection deal for £250. I'm based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Cheers,

6. Hi - bought this pickup a while ago for a project, but never really used it. It's a US-manafactured EB-60 blade Precision pickup in cream that I imported it from the USA. Used it briefly & it's a really strong pickup with a load of volume & presence. There's a really good review at http://basschat.co.u...p-bass-pick-up/

It's practically new condition, still boxed & was only fitted to a bass used at home. Only took it out as I wanted a more old-school tone. This would be great for a rock player - Precision on steroids!!!!!

It cost me over £50 with customs charges, but I'm selling for £25 posted. If you're near Newcastle upon Tyne then we could sort out a meet up...
