1.
Click the album links in my signature - Everwished was recorded Bass -> V-Type miked. Lots of different tones
Just had a listen and it does sound good! I've tried to find some more info on it but obviously the company went tits up so its proving difficult. The one thing that puts me off is the weight. This is a big factor for me as I have to lug the bitch up and down 30 odd stairs every week to practice and then move it a fair old distance when I get there (the other guys will help but its at home thats the problem) Just having a look at what else is out there atm but tbh I thought it would have been snapped up a while ago! Must have cost a a fair whack new? How old is it by the way?
  2.
You could do a lot worse than the V Type. If you want an Ashdown how about this? you could sell the 15 on if you didn't need it.
Ohhh thanks for the link but the seller lives too far away and doesn't look like he's willing to post. I'll keep my eye on ebay Also I need to find som samples of Merton's Trace to see what the general consensus is on that
  3.
Shameless plug time, have a look here. Trace Elliot V-Type 1x15 combo, 250W, very loud and pokey (keeps up with 2 Marshall 4x12s) and a great rock/blues sound 2nd hand is always a winner when buying on a budget.
I'll have a look now, thanks for the plug!
I think the rule is 300W minimum for gigging, secondhand will get you more bang for your buck, I think for that money you could get a 2 X 10 Ashdown combo and have the option of putting an extention cab later. I'm sure other can help you more than I have.
I was thinking of a 2x10 Ashdown combo, possibly this one: http://www.turnkey.co.uk/product.php?itemid=22442 Thanks for the replys
  4. Afternoon all, Well I might as well admit to being a guitarist for 8 years or so but I've been playing bass now for around a year in a band. I have been using my s/h Peavey TNT 115 which was great to start with but now I feel the need for something better. My budget is £300-400 but anything cheaper would be great. As I'm still getting used to the world of 'bass' I could really do with some suggestions please. Here are my requirements: * Smaller the better - I don't have a lot of space to store it * Lightweight - I have to lug this bad boy about and I'm not exactly 'stacked'! * Reasonably loud for small gigs - I used a SS Fender something 160W so anything about 200W should be ok? (or am I wrong) * Price £300 ish, £400 is the absolute max at the moment (current economic crisis and all that) Thats about is. In terms of the bands sound, well its not exactly intense basslines I'm afraid, give me another year or two but it a rock/blues sound. Myspace if you want to listen: http://www.myspace.com/theemptyvesselsband Basically I'm a n00b so any advice would be very much appreciated Thanks in advance, Matt

    Hello!
Not just an admin matey, I OWN this place! Markbass are a good place to start - their amplifiers are TINY and very light (some about the size and weight of a book!) Thanks to a switching power supply. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...fier_Range.html gives you some info and general prices. Genz have also started to make some lightweight gear using similar technology. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...Benz_Heads.html I have tried the 'Shuttle' head and it sounded more natual than the Markbass to my ears. Unfortunately there isn't really anywhere in Oxford to try these out - you might be best off going to Bass Direct (Leamington Spa) or coming to Bass Day 08' where Bass Direct have a stand (presided over my myself, partly) where there will be some gear to try... another option would be a trip to the Bass Gallery in London http://www.thebassgallery.com/ A 4x10 and head may actually be easier to move about for you - the amplifier you have at the moment has an inadequate handle on the top, making it an awkward lift. A 410 will have two decent side handles so you and a band mate can carry it together, or even by yourself if you are solid. Cheers! ped P.s I am not really the best person to ask about lightweight gear - my history is made up of large heavy great beasts which were completely impractical!
I've had a look t those links Chris thanks, just need to do some thinking when I get home from work.... As for trying gear I don't mind travelling, Leamington Spa isn't too bad but bringing a cab back on the oxford tube might be a bit of a bugger! I might drive to some shops to try these beasts when I get a chance. As for the handels on the cab, at least I'll be able to carry the thing. That Peavey is an absolute pig! Oh and nice site btw, you've done well

    Hello!
Welcome to the forum If you're looking to save weight, I can't see a 4x10 cab + head being much lighter than your combo. I run a Hartke HA3500 into an Ashdown ABM 410T 4x10 cab and it weighs enough to warrant using a trolley.
Yeah I had thought that but at least its in two parts! Any other suggestions please?

    Hello!

Afternoon ladies and gents, my name is Matt and I was referred here by a friend for some general advice. I've been playing bass for about a year and my band is doing quite well. I have played guitar for 8 years or so but have converted to the bass! Here is my current (basic) setup but I'm looking to upgrade to a smaller/lighter amp in the near future. Lugging this beast around is doing my head in! If anyone can recommend any amps in the sub £400 bracket that are lightweight and small but loud enough to gig please fire away! I was looking at this setup, what do you think? http://www.thomann.de/gb/ashdown_mag_300h_bundle.htm Cheers
