Who would you - most have enjoyed playing bass with?
Bluewine replied to KiOgon's topic in General Discussion
On being bored. Off topic. I know a few pros touring with stars. I've known these guys since grade school. They know I'm a B list bar band guy but even so when I complain to them about anything they have the same response; "Are you getting paid?" Not how much, but merely, are you getting paid. If yes, stop complaining. Blue -
Off topic, Red flag, the new band with the ultimate goal of gigging once a week.Rehearses 2-3 times a week and focuses on perfection. A year later your still reheasing 2-3 times a week and not a gig in sight. The red flag here for newbies. Only with rare exception does any band need to rehearse 3 xs a week. And no pub band needs to be perfect, but you need to be good. Blue

Gapiro is probably right. I should know more, but as a sideman my imput is not usually wanted. I feel it's my job to play bass that enhances the bands sound. It's the sound man's job to make sure the band sounds good. Blue

OMG, ok, I'd love to replace Doug in Kings X. Replacing Daryl in The Stones would be cool too. except he's a bit too far in the background for my taste I hope everybody is happy, making me choose fantasy over reality.? Blue -

Ok, my fantasy would be to play in a fun, safe, secure, healthy environment, staying in nice hotels and being paid proper. I'm sticking with the " Happy Together Tour" ? Blue -

I disagree, money is a big part of the experience of playing with someone. It's also about people and having a positive experience. How would you like to be stranded in Newark New Jersey with no money or the means to get home after being screwed over by your favorite artist or band. Look at it from a reality perspective for a moment Blue -

Seriously Ivansc, For Jimi it would have been one or the other. I would think most of the 60 year old plus guys here that have a basic knowledge of Jimi"s career would agree Blue -

Good question. Possibly with years of top notch management, intelligent decisions and a healthy lifestyle. Otherwise he might have been another washed up 75 year old hack. Blue -

Who I'd want to play bass with. That's a very difficult call. It wouldn't necessarily be based on the music. Some of my favorite bands might be bad people and jerks to work for. I always thought I would be a good fit touring with the "Happy Together" corporate franchise. I understand the musicians are paid well and treated well. Seems like a great gig to me. Blue -
I really can't tell or hear how much bass he's actually playing. Great vocals and a lot of kick derrière guitar work. Blue

Players that don't warrant a signature bass

Paul also deals with a few select collectors and dealers of vintage Hofner basses. Blue -
Stuff is all above my pay grade. I know I'm XRLed out of my anp. But we bo longer have that snake box on stage, no mixing board either. There's a lap top and a tablet? Blue

Does Paul McCartney have a sig bass, if not, nobody should have one I don't believe Paul has ever had a formal business relationship with Hofner or Rick Blue -

Wow! I remember the song and the black & white video. Loved it still do. Blue

I agree, however I'm now dependent on certain effect in order for the songs my band performance to sound right. I need a lot of sustain and overdrive and in some cases bass octave to give the band a bigger sound. Blue

I never walk out to listen to the house sound. I could sound like complete garbage for all I know. My only reference is what I hear on stage. Blue

Lulu, I'm a big fan. What an incredible voice. I fell in love with her when I saw her in the 60s classic movie "To Sir With Love" Blue

C'mon guys. If your a local bar band guy like me, it's merely about being competent and having a good time. My sound is really about being focused and my fingers. Yeah I have a full boat pedal board and all, but I no longer give it a lot of attention. Don't take things too seriously. Those of us that have been doing this for 50 years (and I'm not the only one on BC) know what we're talking about. Blue

Saturday Night at Pillars Pub. A 5 minute commute, 8:30-12:30. People poured in at 8:30 and we had a respectable crowd through the duration. The place use to be a Church. So the high ceilings and a ton of stained glass made getting our sound right a challenge. We we're probably way to loud. Blue

They were all that good and they were all that influential. But only to some of us. Blue

Had anyone mentioned besides me how important the whole notion "good people" is whether it be a drummer, singer, keys or guitar. I read so many threads about bands imploding on BC. Most of the time it's due to Petty drama. "Good people" guys " good people". I couldn't be more serious. Blue
