I am fresh owner of a Tanglewood Canyon 2 bass, and IMHO the stock pickup and electronics works very well.. Very sensitive bass/mid/treble controls.. Just one little issue with the pickup height too far from the strings even with a very low action and the original pickup screws totally released: I've solved with a few millimeters of padding foam underneath the pickup. Before this operation the bass sounded dead.. now is a beast!

P bass for rock situations with heavy distorted guitars; J bass for acoustic songs and more "pop" situations.
