Out of interest, what’s different about the resistors in the stack knob ones and the vvt

Ask Jaco (oh you can't).  Didn't he replace the stack knobs in the Bass of Doom with vvt, because they sounded louder?

Aint no mountain high enough -  just because I got it in my head

Peg - because I had to learn Josie for my new band and that is the track that always plays after it.

These are scarily 3 of the last 4 tracks I have learnt.  Try adding Walk between the raindrops for a slightly unpredictable walking line.  Has anyone got any tips on how to make learning Deacon Blue a bit more interesting?  Did Walter Becker just compose the lines session players would find too boring?  Or am I being sacrilegious about Steely Dan?

All of my fav live albums have already been mentioned.

Special spot for Judie Tzuke tho. I had no idea that was the same bassist with Quo. Not sure why i never knew that.

She has such a wonderful voice.

I need to buy that live album now.

    Dave

I took photos of Judie Tzuke and Rhino with his Alembic in about 1983, and then saw him about 30 years later with a Status and Quo (if you see what I mean) at the O2.  I guess you would have to call him a versatile player 😃

  4. I have to say, the one in the photo doesn't quite look the same as everyone elses!

    Mine looks like this:

And I concur with everything that's been said about them.  Great with passive classic fenders.  I had to wait three months for mine and they are nose-bleed expensive, but Jack, the guy behind Noble is fantastic to deal with.

  5. Having had two Powerhouse 2*10's and a Trace top for ever, I have taken my osteopath's advice and now am the proud owner of  2*10 and 1*10 Barefaced Cabs (plus a Mesa Boogie 800+, plus a Noble valve pre-amp).  I've yet to really push the Barefaced speakers (post lockdown), but am really looking forward to it.  The post sales advice/support from Barefaced seems to be everything it is described on this website.....and they're a local company to boot.  I am dead chuffed I made the move.

This is a really helpful thread - thanks Chewie! - and the replies are giving me more confidence to consider couriers.

I’ve currently got a bass for sale on the site where I have referenced I’m not looking at using a courier, but I completely understand that this will limit any interest.

Has anyone used DPD at all (in UK or Europe)? Also, in terms of payment, is it as simple as giving someone UK bank account details and they transfer the funds - or is that a big no-no?!

I suspect Transferwise is more cost effective for both sides than Paypal.  There is typically a small fee, but the exchange rate quoted is pretty good, and you can request you receive a fixed amount of Sterling in your bank account (i.e. the purchaser has the exchange rate risk and given where the value of Sterling is at the minute, i guess most European bass players are eager purchasers!).  If you enter your Sterling Bank Account details in Transferwise you just have to give your purchaser your e-mail address.

  7. I recently sent my first bass to Europe to a fantastic buyer in Barcelona.  I followed a number of the tips here (UPS were brilliant), Transferwise....if you enter your bank details with transferwise (which you may or may not want to do!) the buyer just needs your e-mail address.  I was advised to ask for payment before agreeing to dispatch the bass.  That means the buyer has got to be confident in the seller.  Hopefully the basschat site gives some visibility as to the quality of the seller, but in the case of my recent sale, we reinforced the trust with a couple of video calls .

The most frustrating thing was getting hold of  a bike box.  My local Halfords is usually happy to get rid of bike boxes, but not during Covid....Computer says no😠   However, you can buy bike boxes for next day delivery on't internet.  It did cost me £16, but they are a really good resource to build a bomb package with

I have a feeling that bass has show up sometime back on the alembic web site and if my memory serves me right is one of the rare few non series II basses wth CVQ and alembic are not interested in repeating that again on a non series bass. But it would be good for it to reappear there with some more info on it.

And even better, hear what it sounds like!

  9. Ok, so given the hot debate going on on 'Show us yer headstocks' about the cost of Alembics (which I feel a bit guilty about starting with an innocent ELP nurdy query)....this is a relatively reasonably priced 1996 Alembic, bought off an e-bay dealer and in my humble opinion sounds as good as a fretless Wal.
