  3. I got like this when I was in metal bands, I spent years in the scene bouncing from band to band. I literally lived metal music & bass in these bands.
Then I just hit a brick wall, I didn't care or like playing the music anymore. The more I played the less I enjoyed it.

In the end I chucked the bass in & walked away from music all together, nowadays music that makes me excited is not what I was playing back then, nowadays I find that music gets me in different ways, change sometime happens when you were not expecting it to happen but it comes anyway.

I still like metal but I dont draw inspiration from it anymore, I also have found that the style is kind of part of me now, I can sometimes hear a slight influence from metal when I play......It always makes me grin.

Maybe you need to have a break , and have some down time, re think what makes you want to play bass. find the right questions & then Answer them. And either come back with a clearer mind or move on & start a new adventure.

Fumps, as we all know, FEEBay only charge after you have sold, not before.
On a wider note, the fee was introduced on the sales fora, however, it was, in my understanding, to benefit the whole site?
    Karl.

Cheers Karl.....I was aware of that (Insert sarcasm font) But the charge is still payable. BC is not E-bay they dont have the same systems in place to operate in the same way. And i would have thought the benefit is obvious, the fact that BC lives on. Or do you not count that as a benefit ?

Am I right in thinking some are against the charges & someone else should pay for the site other than the people who use it everyday? I'm not meaning that in a stroppy way, I'm just wondering why someone can justify using something & not offering anything in return.

Lets be fair guys. people were not paying & now Basschat is asking for help, And some people seem to begrudge this.
Going back to the idea that BC is a meeting place, free to be here, come & go as you please. I'd like to elaborate on this idea:

Now change this idea to Basschat being your house. people can come round, chill out, have a laugh, swap advice while having a good old chat in your house & garden. they can come & go as they please any time they like. But at the end of the day it's your responsibility your paying the bills & sorting out the cleaning of the house....this starts getting more and more expensive and is taking up more & more of your personal time, when you notice some people are using your house like an open market & selling items that are in most cases expensive.
So basically people are using your garden to sell stuff for (some cases) hundreds of pounds and even up to a grand and above they are still walking away with a full wallet & your still left to clean up and pay out of your own pocket just to keep the place running. they are walking away with money they have made by using the contacts they have made from being at your house, without you providing this space they could not have made the contacts they have in order to make these sales and it is still costing you money to run.......So you ask for a small cut of those sales to help out or at least break even & your visitors start to moan at you for asking for a contribution towards the running of your house that you have opened for people to use freely..........I dont know about anyone else but if that was to happen my foot would be so far up their arse, their Adams apple would be my boot.

I think peoples opinion is one way or the other: are happy to help the site or not ? I admit I'd been using the site for years before I realised that someone was paying for this site out of their own pocket & then I felt really guilty for not helping. This year I paid my £20 to trade, have I sold anything on here ? no.
did I feel ripped off ? of course not
I have used this site for years, met some great people & learned so much about music and equipment. I have even got some free stuff from people so I think that £20 is almost an insult for being so cheap.

I think people should start to see this site as something more than a thing on a screen this site is a asset not a right.

It is disturbing to see those brave enough to admit they don't like the fees being ganged up on by those that do, simply for holding a different opinion and calling the 96% of basschatters who did not donate under the old system 'twats' is not very polite or helpful to the debate.
    [/quote]

I'm pretty shocked that people feel like they are being ganged up on. It's a real shame, but the fact remains that people pay for all of this. Nothing is for free I'm sorry to say. I feel that a small contribution to the running of the site is only fair. or do people think it isn't ? maybe their views are subject to debate but I honestly cannot see how money can be raised in any other way.

  6. I'm still a little baffled why anyone would feel put out by these charges. I mean if you pay £20 for a year's trading anything you want, that literally cost's £1.66 per month <_< ......And a person seriously is thinking twice about this ?

I paid my £20 for the year, it's really nowt & what's more I feel better for helping to run this site. I find it a bit twattish that someone will happily pay charges to E-bay to sell an item but moan when they are actually asked to contribute to a website that gives you contact with good people, free advice, and a great source for buying more cheap kit.
So there are people who will happily use this site for free, ignore the time ad cost that the Mods & Admin put into this site & begrudge paying the equivalent of few pints with the mrs down the pub ?

I do feel that some people should take stock of what they get out of something.....It's usually what they put in

  7. Sound like a top night. I've always liked Jason he just seems an solid guy who has a certain quiet competence about him that I respect.

Thrash was always about the music & energy for me, lyrics can be a bit shaky but so what ?

Glad you guys had a good night, I really do hope Jason does well with this band

  8. In terms of sound I think that is a beautiful bass. Perfect for a person like him who needs lots of different sounds. that Purple Floydy bloke is known for having the odd effect in their songery-ditties I've heard.

But as soon as I saw it I thought of a way to keep the same functionality but make the bass look better, it's not really that hard to hide the pick ups & have a thumb slider that protrudes just above the E string.

Or am i being stupid here ? please correct me if I am but i've seen a few guitars with hidden pick ups

I'm thinking like this but with an attached slider

  9. Back in 2008 I decided to get back into playing after a break of longer than 10 years. I was looking for various bits & bobs of information & pretty much every time I did a google search I ended up back on Basschat.....After a while I just kept coming back & stalked the forum for the huge amounts of information here.

I dont think I ever left after that ;)
