Another thought - I don't know your playing experience, but when choosing a 5-string, don't forget, a 5 is predominantly played lower down the neck. If you watch Gary Willis you'll see he rarely ventures up to the 3rd fret. So over all the playing experience is simply different.

Edit: for lower - read that as "nearer the body"; so actually it's higher up the neck

C'mon guys..the magic is in the B..actually the open B..

  2. the progress of the last week

i have made contour in the backside and open holes in the body to lose weight, then glued the top.

you can also see the high difference because of the torzal. But these peaks will be cut later as the line of the pen in the last pic shows

  3. First of all,its my honor that bass players and builders are talking about my bass.

In the end of the build i will thank all the people that helped me with this, because behind of this build, are so many great guys hidden, who helped me with their knowledge

I will see if i can edit the earlier posts and upload again the pictures.

This bass, actually,is not an ergonomic bass.

The 2 main reasons, are dimensions and weight.

If a person need ergonomic bass,he must look for max 30" scale. The smaller the scale, the smaller the frets, and easier to play

This bass because of the bigger scale, have more wood than a common bass guitar and that means it weights more.

I will try to make 36mm body thickness to lose weight.

    I am not a luthier,just a DIYer.

    In the beginning,i wanted to build a multiscale.Also a headless.So,i make the decision to build a multiscale-headless.

From my previous 40" build,i know that if a bass be longer than 40",the wrist on the left hand is gonna be i difficult position. So it must be torzal neck.

I choose to put all these in one single build, just for the fun and the challenge to see if i can make it.

There are still things that i didn't know how i will do,but as the build is going on,i see what it will be nice or good, and do it.

Tha playing positions are these at the pictures. The neck is angled, but there is nothing to rest the right hand like the normal basses, which i like, but there are so many players, that don't rest their right hand on the bass

  4. The carbon rods are cut to length so they they fit nice. They will be til the pickup cavity. You can see 2 angled lines i have draw, the one is from the fretboard and the other from the pickup cavity.

I thought i will glue them today, but i have to go and leave it.I thing tomorrow this job will be done

  5. I started the body today.I buy something like plywood to experiment about size, shape and wight, and later i will change it with real wood.

In the shop, they called it "plakaz" like plywood but lil bit more expensive and more strengh.

here i design the body shape

and here is how it would look with the neck

and here is with the real neck, but i didnt have finished its dimensions

  6. The two canals on each side are made for carbon rod.

i will use a 8mm tube with 4mm hole.I have found that many people using carbon tow because is cheaper and becomes stronger.

The truth is,that carbon rods in necks like this, are overkill.I have build this 40" p-bass

    12575h0.jpg

specially designed for down tuning F#,B,E,A

It has 2 common carbon rods and mapla/wenge/maple/wenge/maple neck with 5string neck dimensions, because of the thicker strings,so the string spacing is the same. This bass have VERY stiff neck and i adjust the truss rod to bow the neck, because the force of strings tension is not enough.

So,the navarone will have 80%,wenge neck and this wood i found on wooden floor market and should be at least 10 years old, that means is very dry and hard.

The fretboard will be 3 layer wenge/maple/wenge

like these on the side look

each layer 3mm,so this fretboard will not be easy to bend

  7. The truth is,this building is going last loooooong time.

The day i have decide to start this building is 26/8/2016..

I have change my mind so many times about what to do in many things like body shape etc but this is the fun.

In greece we say watching and doing, that means, every day you see what you can/like do,and do it.No matter what you have in your mind when you have started

  8. I was looking for a high mass super heavy bridge to replace the cheap harley benton bridge i use for a 40"scale precision i build, but then i foun a 44£ UK made piezo bridge.
The most high mass brigde for a 4 string. Also, piezo opened a new world toy playing style and tone

  9. The bass is passive,no wiring issues,no vol knob.Goes in instrument input.Have tryed it with preamp pedal but get distorted sound. The preamp pedal (eden wtdi) is also DI,tryed the XLR microphone input but again i got low signal.
When i am recording my active bass straight to the instrument input, again i take low ignal but much higher than the passive bass (thats normal) but again when i am trying tu mix it with a song downloaded fro youtube for example,i must lower the track volume and add 2-3dB gain at the bass to much the levels. But this gain add, makes my bass sound horible
