I set myself a goal this summer to learn to play walking basslines to chord sheets. How did you learn?

I just stick to root, 3rd, 5th.. 7th maybe and a few chromatics here and there.. in various orders
But there’s soooo much to read on the subject! Big respect to the guys who can walk all day long 🙌 help us n00bs

  2. I thought the P bass could be quite versatile, I’m thinking of buying one for my collection and this hasn’t changed my mind in anyway but I was wanting to hear from P owners what their  thoughts are on this? 😈

    The quote is from https://www.andertons.co.uk/jazz-vs-precision-bass

“This is the bass you want for full-on power. The hum-cancelling split coil pickup provides a huge, full range tone that sits in a mix extremely well for a lot of styles of music. Saying that, it’s not really a versatile instrument. It does a good job for an old school, boomy sound but it doesn’t really cut it for super modern tones. It’s kind of a one-trick-pony, but it’s a great one nonetheless. Using a plectrum with this bass is ideal to get grunt out of the sound”

  3. Wear and dings on the instrument shows that it has a bit of history.. or a few stories. Deliberately making it look worn isn’t my thing.

    isn't it kinda faking it?

like someone in an iron maiden T-shirt that’s never heard them before but just want that rocker look 😂 u know what I mean maybe a different band but you’ve all seen it!

So Relic - fair play but it’s not for me!

Ive just been told on a different selling platform, by the original owner, that it is a Highway One.
    She changed the bridge herself.
    Just for clarity :)
I dont know if thats better or worse for me 🤣

I’m a big fan of the badass bridge.. I can’t see why you would change it! Each to their own I guess..

Most mixers are not designed to accept plugging guitar or bass straight in however. The impedance is not high enough, which results in a really dull sound. Although you could still get by, it just wouldn’t sound great. If you have any pedals you can go through, that would improve matters. Also, bass usually sounds pretty decent direct, but guitars sound very bland direct without some kind of amp sim, so see what your guitarist has available, like a multi-fx unit.

So guitar - Fx pedal then mixer should sound better?

I found better audio quality from a headphone amp like Behringer HA400 (about £20) versus the very cheap passive double adapter type.  Another advantage is independent volume controls.

I had a look at this and there’s only headphone inputs, how do you mean I should set it up? Sorry if it’s obvious 😂 I need it simplified a bit more 🤤

How are you going to carry that one off? I mean it's one thing to do both parts of a Bach invention yourself but you'd have to be triplets to do The Delicate Sound of Thunder.

Surprised that I even have to say this but.. I would play along with 1 part at a time. 😐 think about it..

  7. Can anyone advise me how to get 2 amps hooked up to 2 sets of headphones?

I stay in a flat and want to be able to have a mate round for a jam without disturbing the neighbours.. would it be possible to play 2 amps and hear both amps in both earphones?

Do I need a small mixer for this? If so does anyone know a cheap mixer that I could get

Would B E A D tuning work for you? Like you I play stuff that uses the B and I have more fun playing a 4 string.

^ good shout from this guy!

I’d say keep the wick (I’m a fan of them) I got rid of a 5 corvette $$ a few years ago and it still stings a bit..  just save up and get yourself a reasonably priced 2nd hand 4 string for slapping cos I don’t want you regretting getting rid of a wick like I did 😢

  9. Hey folks, I’m thinking about getting a 1989 Warwick streamer ltd the price is £1999. I have played the bass and it is stunnin! But is it a little over priced? I dunno what the going rate is on these.. what’s your opinions?

  10. I've seen a corvette standard (German) for £300 just as a private sale.. Few scrapes here and there as its been gigged quite a bit..
Also a few guys here have messaged me about basses their selling which has been appreciated!
It looks like 2nd hand is the way to go cos the prices brand new are shockin 🤑
