Following on from my other thread about the Peavey Poweramps.
Does anyone have any other suggestions ?
I've tried 'normal' poweramps in the past without a lot of success.
I'm amazed that you can't get half rack size class D poweramps. All it needs is the power section from something like a Genz Benz shuttle.
These look allright on paper, and they're a good price, but are they any good ?
i've got one, i've yet to do extensive testing but they do everything they say they do on the tin
So they're powerful, uncoloured and don't have noisy fans ? -
I'm considering going down the separate pre amp/poweramp route. I figure I could have a couple of different pre amps for different gigs.
My past experience with poweramps has been a bit of a disaster though. They're either huge heavyweights or have excessively noisy fans.
I'm amazed that you can't get a small, reliable and lightweight class D power amp. Similar to those used by Genz Benz.
These Peavey's look good though, and are certainly in the right price range.
Bass Desires is the best cd ever. If I didn't already have it on LP, cassette and as a download, I'd snap it up!!!
It is brilliant. I've got all of these (plus everything else) on my Ipod anyway. -
I have cupboards and shelves full of CD's, about one thousand at the last count. I just can't help buying them, and trying them. Many of these have only been played once, all are in excellent condition.
I've checked the prices against Amazon, I think they're pretty fair. All my prices include postage, the Amazon ones don't so take that into account if you do your own comparison.
OK, here's a bit of a list. I can 'do a deal', if you want more than one.

I have mine set up really low, a couple of millimetres at the 12th fret. I have ramps fitted to all my basses, that kind of helps to keep my playing under control so I don't get rattles and buzzes, unless I want them.
Wooten pulls it off. And i like the fact it's done with woods rather than a paint job. It doesn't offend me at all.
The one you had at bassday UK was a much better looking instrument in my humble opinion.
If i was buying a Fodera, i'd want it to look like mine, not his. If you get me?
I think it's a beautiful bass. However I totally agree with this, spending that sort of money I'd want something that was 'mine'. -
I bought this beautiful bass a few weeks ago, and I've really fallen in love with it.
It's probably the closest bass to a Fodera that I've tried. other than a Fodera. It has a really beautiful 'natural' sound. It doesn't sound overly bassy, or middly, or trebly. Just a very even sounding bass. It's got a great preamp too, but I'm tending to keep the pre switched out.
I'm not sure what the top wood is, I'm not 100% sure what the body wood is come to that lol.
I am thinking about having it refinished though. It's currently got a sort of matt finish to it that I'm not keen on. I've had a couple of basses with this sort of finish, and I just don't think it's at all hard wearing, and it really doesn't show off the bass to it's full potential.
It's got a beautiful top wood, that's very highly figured, and actually has a lot of 'flaming' on it, (very 3D when you hold it to the light). This wood look stunning with a deep gloss coat on it.
I've approached Martin Sims, and he's given me a very good price, it'd take about 6 weeks.
One thing that worried me though is this. Would the bass sound different with a deep gloss coat on rather than the very thin matt coat that's on it now ?
Has anyone changed the finish on their bass, either from this to a deep gloss, or vice versa ?
I bought a Sei bass from a guy a couple of years ago. He ordered it with this sort of finish, but when he collected it, it had been given a deep gloss coat. He didn't like it an told me it had 'spoiled the sound'. -
You can order direct from Delano, just email them.
Class D Poweamp suggestions please.
What was wrong with the power amps you tried? One power amp is likely to sound much like another if they can both deliver the same power.
Noisy fans drive me mad.
