  1. Lovely American Original Jazz bass.

In very good condition and strung with LaBella flatwounds. Nice low action and sounds stellar.

One small ding in the lower bout (see photo) that's been repaired. Includes case candy, but the case is a tweed Thomann case I preferred over the ortiginal black one...and now can't find the original case!

Happy to ship, or drive within reason.

    weighs 9lb. 5 oz.   (4.3kg)

  3. I have a American Original Jazz bass incoming so this beauty has to go as I have a nice 50's classic P that I can use when the P bass bug bites.

I built this up 8 months ago when I had the hankering for a AV2 or AO P bass...but didn't want to spend over £1500 on such an instrument. I found a new AO P bass neck from Thomann and then built the bass around that.

    Here's what we have:

-2023 American Original Neck, purchased from Thomann.

-Custom Solderless P Bass harness, Alpha A250k solid shaft pots.

-Fender Pure Vintage '63 Precision Bass Pickups

-2 Piece alder American alder body with custom nitro sunburst finish

    -Aged vintage tuners.

-Ash tray and pick up cover

-Will come with Fender round wounds, but flatwounds have always been used so barely any wear on the frets.

    Bass weighs 8.75lbs. (3.9kg)

    Happy to ship UK.

It does show some wear on the body as it is a thin nitro finish and has been gigged20230201_130017.thumb.jpg.411e7fea4c0874426241cd71189c3db2.jpg

Here's close to a AV or AO for a fraction of the price!

  4. This has been my go to bass for the band I was in (Carnabyarmy.com).

I've since moved away from London and winding things down with the band and really don't need the Ric anymore.

This has been my go to bass for a few years now and has seen countless gigs over the years and is one fantastic sounding instrument. It's certainly not without it's cosmetic flaws as it's been well played over the years (always a good sign)! It has the perfect relic look that's all naturally acquired.

The Good:  This bass has the perfect neck profile (in my humble opinion). I've owned new Ric's and can say that this is much more of a shallow C shape rather than a chunky D like the newer 4003 basses. Frets have plenty of life left in them (I alwys use flatwounds). The neck is very stable and since I first acquired the bass in 2018 it hasn't needed a truss adjustment. That being said, the truss rods work as they should with no issues.

The Bad: Nothing really. Except maybe to say it's "Badass"?

    Weight: 7.48 pounds (3.39kg)

The Ugly: Well, someone thought it was a great idea to carve "CRUE" in the upper horn of the bass. I tried to source it to Nikki Sixx, but sadly no provenance in that one! I've sinced covered it up with an RAF sticker. Someone also thought it was a great idea to rout out for a jazz pick up when it was still a 4000 series bass. I've since had the ugly jazz rout filled in and added a shallow insert for a neck pick up and converted it to a 4001.

The pick ups are an original Ric 4001c64 reissue  neck pick up and a vintage reissue Ric bridge pick up tied into a Rickysounds wiring harness.

It includes my modified saft shell (yet rigid foam) case that has the interior slightly modified to allow the Ric upper horn to sit in the case. It's a great case as it's lightweight by offers very good protection.

I also have a set of retrovive pick ups I'll add in as well as the original bridge and pick up from when it was a 4000 series bass. I also have a black scratch plate and black Ric truss rod cover as well I can throw in.

Definetly prefer local pick up or meet up between Hampshire South Coast or possibly West London.

    Is this a V1 or V2?

Serial number is 16381558. Maybe that can help with whether it is version 1 or 2?

I bought it here on Basschat a few years back for those "2Songs" I needed a 5 string on and then left that band....back to my P bass and Ric. Hence the sale.

    Lovely colour.

What is the weight? How is the balance?

Is that a ding below the control plate?

    Thanks.

4.8 kg is what I'm getting for weight. Not a blemish, just a bit of a smudge that I didn't notice until you pointed it out. Just opened the case up and confirmed it. I have more photos I can share....not sure why it's giving me a max photo size reached when I post 2 photos.

Balances just fine with my nice big leather strap. Thanks for looking.
