£1250-ish. One finish (Red Cedar / Maple / Walnut composite body, 5 piece walnut and maple neck, walnut veneer on the headstock and in a matt finish). Probably a free case.

Oh right: I’d certainly be interested

    Will have :

4 and 5 String Bass in 32.7" Scale
Red Cedar / Maple / Walnut Body
    Aguilar Pickups
    Aguilar 3 Channel Pre-Amp with Active/Passive Switching
    18v
    Hipshot Bridge
    Hipshot Ultralite Tuners
    Maple and Walnut Through Neck
    Ebony Board with Abalone Markers
    Black / Abalone Hardware
    Maple TRC

Intention is to be launch at NAMM 2019.

Any idea when there’ll be more on pricing, finishes and ordering??

    cheers

Liking the idea of a mid scale!

Regarding the Squier Jag SS. I've got one... will get round to posting some pics sometime. Crazy value for money. The only mods I've made are... Fender Jazz control knobs, Gotoh bridge (I just have a thing about bbot bridges) and fave d'Addario strings. I'd like to put new pups and electronics in, but finding it hard to justify. Might just get a pearloid scratchplate from Jack sometime. The winders look a bit flimsey, but they work ok and stay in tune. The neck and fretwork is very good. Hard to go wrong at the price.

Certainly sounds like some love ou there for Squiers!

    Cheers Paul,

Both of the Squiers are completely stock.  I've been toying with putting an hotter pup in the Squier Mustang and changing the loom (as the tone pot has very little effect on the sound) but to be honest the sound in the mix is fine as it stands so I'd be tinkering at best. The bridge is pretty good on this one, I much prefer the period correctness as opposed to the bbot that's now on the Mex Mustangs, it could do with some better tuners at some point though - I think these are the only weakness in the current Squier Indonesian offerings. The pups in the Jaguar are much hotter than both Mustangs which is part of the reason that it's been relegated from back up duty as when I switch basses on stage I just swap over the wireless dongle and don't want to be messing about with a switch/level pedal.  The body wood on the Squier Mustang is basswood and lends a decent heft; the Jaguar though is Agathis which seems to be as light as helium (causing a bit of neck dive) and has the consistency of cheese (fortunately the paint job has the robustness of Kevlar so its still totally ding free); if I hang on to it I might look out for a better body for this at some point and have a wacky paint job.

One thing I would note is that the necks on the Squier basses are excellent, great fretting, good adjustment and take any action you'd like.  IMHO, better than the neck on the CIJ re-issue which has adjustment at the body end and can't take as low an action.

Thanks, Mart, it certainly sounds like it’s a pretty decently built bass that could take some mods and still be reasonably priced. I’m definitely running through some ideas......😉

3 Shorties in my lineup, all for use in the Glam band. The silver sparkly one is the header, a 2012 Squier Mikey Way sig Mustang...took some tracking down that one. First back up is the 2002(?) Fender CIJ comp stripe Mustang, only has this a short while and it’s just had a fret level and set up so will be getting it’s first outing this weekend. Last but not least, bringing up the rear is a silver Squier Jag SS, cheap as chips but punches well above it’s weight.

Liking all 3 of those! Have you done any mods to the Squiers? Given the price I wondered getting one and having a go at chucking in high end pups and hardware and getting a custom paint and guard job

Cool! Ya its a really good bass and i just set up the intonation :) the only thing i wish it had a belly cut, i changed the saddles had some gotoh saddles lying around.

i play it through a crown xls1500 and a tc rs210c cabinet and have yet to gig with it.

I wondered about saddles: I’ve decided this will be my first rodding experiment so may try those next. So far I’ve ordered new tuners - Hipshots which just arrived - plus a new pearloid pickguard (that’s just for looks of course). Do the saddles just fit straight on or is there some black art involved? Did they help intonation??

Ditto: I’ve fallen in love with my PJ: I use it instead of my Ric, so comfortable for an evening gigging ,plus great sound. Ay it through a Markbass 121p plus 121 extension cab. All in all a really compact easy to transport rig and great for pub gigs

Hi Paul. In Suffolk as well, in Bury St Edmunds. What venues are you playing in Ipswich? We are just starting to get in to some Ipswich pubs - playing at The Plough next month..

Great, what’s your band and what do you play? Check us out on FB: www.facebook.com/wearemovingtargets

we are at the Suffolk Punch at the end of May, and various venues around the county

  10. Combo and can arrived last week: Markbass CMD121p plus NY121. I'm really pleased with the tone (coupled to a US std Jazz). Bunged em on the back seat of my micro sized car and easily carted em upstairs to. The practice room yesterday. Great tone again and cut thru 2guitars and a drummer at practice, even with volume and gain at around 9-10 o'clock each. First gig is an outdoors one this Sunday so I can report back after that. Certainly initial impression is V good

    I found theese two

    https://gb.muzyczny.pl/162028_Phil-Jones-Bass-Bass-CUB-BG100-BK-bass-combo.html
There was louder amps, but also bigger, so i choose bit smaller models.

Very nice: if they can take extensions then you can always add another cab anyway for more noise!

My lightweight combo is a TC Electronics BG250-112. Highly recommend it and not that expensive. Holds its own easily in my five piece rock band and four piece metal band.

I had the 115 version, also sounded good to me, although I was a newbie at the time so what did I know! I replaced it with a BH500 plus a BC210, again was very pleased with those. I see someone is selling a full gigging rig with a 410 as well for 400 on the gear for sale, deffo worth a look

I haven't tried that one. I tried the MB combo with a Barefaced Compact (G2, 15"), which was a pretty powerful combination but I didn't think it was a good pairing, tonally. However the Traveler 151 is probably quite different from the Compact... so... sorry for the very unhelpful post

Actually it is helpful as it's helped clarify my thinking. I've ordered the CMD121p plus NY121 as they're designed to go together, now we will see what the sound is like!

  14. Hi everyone: sorry this is my first reply to all your advice; it's not that I don't appreciate it, I've just been trying to absorb it and add to my own research. Currently veering towards a MB CMD121 and adding another 12" extension (Ashdown or Eden?) to give me a couple of easy to transport pieces of kit while still accessing the full 500w of the amp. Feels like 12"ers could be a good middle road and could complement my Jazz's mid tones. I'll post what I go for and report back on how it sounds!

  15. Hi, the age old problem of an ageing back means I need to look for a light amp/rig but I need to compete against a drummer and 2 enthusiastic guitars! I have a budget of around £600-750. I like the idea of the size and weight of the Markbass CMD121P but wouldn't be able to afford an extra cab: could an amp of this size hold its own playing punk, mod and rock? I also wondered about the Ashdown RM heads and associated cabs: does anyone have a view on these? Or alternative ideas? Thanks!
