Hi guys.
Going through my drawers and I have a lot of stuff seeing no use now. Worth noting none of the pickups have screws, but these are easy to come by.
1. Tonerider Precision Pickup - I believe a TRPB-1. No Screws. GONE!!!
2. Set of Entwistle JBXN Jazz bass pickups. These get a great write up, and with good reason. They are tremendously loud, very nice Jazz pickups - GONE!!!
3. Fender JJ bridge pickup. This type of pickup was on the "modern player" series Jazz bass. SOLD!!!
4. Wilkinson Jazz bass pickup set. Came in a Harley Benton. Not bad for price. £10 delivered for the pair.
5. Dunlop Strap Locks - black. bought these for a bass that I moved on before installing these. Still in box, untouched - GONE!!!
6. Black Jazz bass pickguard. 3-ply black/white/black Northwest Guitars brand, never used. Takes 10 screws (not included) - GONE!!!
7. Fender US Active Preamp. Active Fender US Preamp for P/J or Jazz basses. Needs some love (new battery compartment needs to be fitted, new Output needs to be fitted). Because of the work needed, selling for £30 delivered. Comes attached to lovely tortoiseshell P-Bass pickguard.

I have been offered an Xvive Bass Squeezer for relatively little money. I have had a look at some reviews and it seems ok, with a built-in drive circuit and very basic compression knobs. I am tempted.
That being said, the built-in compression in the Boss ME50B has sounded good so far, so who knows.

Don't know how I managed to overlook Risk to Exist by Maximo Park. Great Album, some great basslines, great to dance to. Superb.

A more extreme example of what can be achieved with a cheap instrument and a clever Midlander that can do her up:

Bit of a can of worms this one.
Is it possible to take, say, a Harley Benton Jazz, and upgrade everything, from the fret finish and tuners to installing all new electronics, to the point where it plays and sounds as good as a Sadowsky.?
I have no idea, other than that buying all the premium components would cost a lot of money in itself, but anyone who has bought a much more expensive bass, and I'm one of them, would prefer to think that it isn't.
Please see AndyJR's build thread on a Harley Benton Jazz.

Wasn't someone selling a DOD milk box on here recently? they are supposed to be really good for not much cash
Yeah I have just had a search and I believe it is still available so maybe.
For now, I have pulled out and wiped the dust off the old Boss ME50B - it has a few compression settings to fiddle with despite it being fairly limited. But hey, some of the other effects on there are pretty nice too so will have to use it a bit more methinks.

Maximo Park - all their albums. I saw Risk to Exist on Spotify and thought I'd download all their albums again. Have since seen them 4 times this year.
Also, Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Shoals. Packed with great choons.

The Marshall and the Joyo ones are both "guitar" comp pedals - is there any real difference in performance between the two? Should I just be looking at good guitar compressors?

Thomann's Harley Benton version of the Boss LMB-3 has done me proud!
Just checked - It's now discontinued
They do have the Behringer Limiter/Enhancer thing though that has mixed reviews for £20 or so. Might be worth a punt?

Hi guys.
Does anyone know of a cheap bass compressor that's decent? I have found a few recommendations for guitar but until now, no decent bass ones for less than £50 or so.

Hi,
I would prefer collection aye, but I'd meet within 10 miles or so for a shady services handover and maybe a bit further for petrol change.

With a heavy heart I am listing for sale my bitsa PJJ. With me moving house and planning a build next year, I need to cut back on basses.
It was bought on this site around this time last year and has seen some changes since.
The neck is a no-name one Jazz-type one with a rosewood board, pearloid block inlays, cream binding and a 'Mojo' waterslide decal on the headstock. There is a Hipshot string tree and MIM Tuning machines.
The body is a squier one, in a 3-tone-sunburst finish, fitted with a Seymour Duncan SPB-3, Fender USA dual coil jazz humbucker and a KiOgon wiring loom with coil split for the bridge humbucker. There is a battery box on the back of the body as once upon a time there was a preamp installed, but I wanted to make the switch to passive. Finally, there is a MIJ threaded saddle bridge and it is strung with Rotosound flats. The only picture I have currently is this one here, stood next to my "signature" jazz bass. I will get more pictures later if my phone allows 😅
The bass was put together and given a setup by our very own AndyJR, and as such plays wonderfully. Price is £225 collected from B36 Birmingham, but will listen to offers and trades.

I will have Wombats, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Ocean Colour Scene, Kings of Leon and The Drums album please?

The Law of Bass
n = B + 1
n is optimal number of basses
B is number of basses currently owned.
You can't argue the maths

Ive saved that quote for a later date -
In a random bout of GAS Ive been looking for something with a Music Man style pickup and sound. That being said, the few actual Music Mans (Music Men?) I have played I havent liked the weight of or the neck, but the sound has been killer.
So who are making good, cheapish clones? I know Cort do a something-or-other with a P or J pickup as well as the MM, and I do like the look of these, but any more recommendations?

It's basically 2 single coils fused together into a humbucker. It comes from the fender modern player jazz bass.
