1.
Guess if you add a £10 on I could ship it, I'm just reluctant to ship incase anything happens.
I was kidding about driving, I've never bought a bass shipped, I know that thousands get shipped all the time but just don't trust my luck.
It's a great looking bass and I'm test driving a few 5 strings this weekend.
If I dont have any joy by next week I'll PM you and see if we can arrange something.
cheers

2.
I don't know enough about basses to answer your question. But, you have a Squier bass already, two Jazz basses, you want to dip your toe into 5 strings, you don't want to spend too much, and you want active.

What's wrong with the Squier DeLuxe Jazz Bass V Active? Not suitable for funk? Just curious, because assuming that you prefer Jazz basses, given my limited knowledge it seems like an obvious choice. Or, is it because with £250-300 to spend second hand, you're looking for a step above the £209 brand new Squier? Or are two Jazz basses enough?

I seriously considered the Squier DeLux Jazz Bass V Active when I was looking for a bass, and people who know more than me told me nice things about it.
Hi,
I didn't know you could get a Squier Delux Jazz 5 for £209 !!

I think I'll do as suggested and test drive as many as I can, It is obvious I like Jazz basses isn't it, but will have to go for tighter string spacing if I want a similar size neck.

Cheers for the posts.

3. OK, Im thinking of dipping my toe into the murky waters of 5 string, I have a Fender Highway one jazz and and a Squire VM Jazz fretless already, quite like to get into funk and a booming 'B'.
I'm only willing to splash out £250 - £300 second hand just in case it doesn't work out & I think I'd like some active magic in the mix.
I only want some advise about what to start test driving before I buy, has anyone made this leap recently. I really really know nothing about 5 strings so
no sarcastic replies about only wanting somewhere to rest my thumb please.
but cheers in advance anyway.

4.
I don't buy much but watch Wal prices out of curiousity. For at least a few years, prices always climb as Christmas and the new year approach starting about now. June and July seem to be prime for low prices. Of course with financial market collapsing, who knows.
I noticed that this year, there were a few bargains around in the last couple of months but I had no money, now that I have a couple of hundred quid everything seems to be going up a bit (I'm tight).

5.
If you insist...

Wag The Dog, we're a three piece doing punk, indie, and ska type covers around Guildford in Surrey. Lots of parties, a few pubs and the odd wedding. Crap name, but we're pretty tight with loads of energy. Frontman's a cheeky chappy too - good with the banter. Been going nearly two years and is a good laugh.
I know the name of your band so must have seen you somewhere, must have had my shandy spiked because I can't remember where, have you played around Richmond, Chiswick or Ealing?.

6.
At last nights gig it was all go, interview for the radio and a photoshoot for some promo pics. First proper ones our band has had really. Here's a couple:

Both done by a guy called Brian James, some more of his stuff here.
Wicked!

7. If his timing is out then his parents should tell him that he is 5hit, I've told my kids this from a young age when they came home with paintings for me, I'd tell them what I thought and show them some proper art. Then again I haven't seen or spoken to my kids since they left home so I can't say how they turned out.
None of this true of course.
I love my little angels - the 5hits.
Otherwise, I wish I'd started playing bass at 9, I'd be adequate now & thats good for me.

8.
A nice jazz always works, the Squier VMJ fretless is a good option, as it has the hard phelonic board, sounds nice and bright! :)
I know it's well below your budget but I bought my Squier VMJ fretless about 6 weeks ago after test driving a few and nothing could match it within a couple of hundred quid, I put flat wounds on it and set it up without any fretboard buzz but then reset to have a tiny bit of buzz - you can really control the amount of MWAH that way.
Suck it and see.
cheers

9. I 'test drove' a shed load of basses before buying my mark one Highway 1 jazz, it had been upgraded with a badass bridge which I was going to do anyway, it's f*^ki%g brilliant, I feel guilty for owning such a great bass considering I'm not currently in a band and I just use to muck about on. I've played a few good basses since buying it & haven't yet found one as easy to play or with such versatile tone yet.
Try and test drive it against a few others before you buy - different basses suit different people - there is no right or wrong.
Happy hunting!
cheers

10.
I take it you are into hip-hop then, being a `wrapper'!

Sorry! Talking of rapping etc - around about 1983, I remember playing rugby (rugger as it was called back then!) at King's School in Ely! We got there, played the game against the Kings lads, stuffed them 99-0 and then, went back to their refectory for an after match meal. Afterwards, some of their lads were intrigued by some of our lads `body-hopping' as they called it (popping!). They then came at us with a load of cutlery and we got the blame for the ensuing melee!
Yeah, cutlery could do it instead of jelly babies I suppose but wouldn't give the same sensation.

Sorry, sorry, I've got 2 forum's open at the same time, what I meant was I like is I like a nice guitar strap (so long as I'm naked from the waist down and covered in vaseline.
Oh god I'm no good at switching between websites quickly- sorry!.

Thomastik whips
I mean flatwound whips - Oh f*cK it. I give up

11.
Nah, don't mind me mate.....I was just fooling around myself. :)
Phew ! I managed to pull it off !

OK - I'll stop now - unless me & you Jase turn it into a double ententre thread & see if anyone notices or joins in.

12.
Errrm its supposed to wear quickly......! Did you not read up on it before you bought it? :)

They are finished in a thin cellulose finish that wears quickly to give you "a road used" look- Hence the moniker Highway!

I have one. Although it has been well and truly pimped, I would thoroughly recommend it in its std form and pimped its excellent!

I wanted to hate it but I cant, and I cant put the damn thing down, in fact its the first to be picked up now......
Erm - I know it's supposed to wear quickly, I read up on it & and test drove a couple before buying it - I was letting the bloke who started the thread know, Like I said I don't like pretty basses - mine is (was) the midnight wine red.
I feel bad owning such a great bass but only being a hobbyist bassist, I should let it go to a better place but it's just really good or I could join a band.
I hope sarcastic replies to helpful posts dodn't turn this site into the USA version where everyone tries to look a bit cleverer than the last bloke - let's keep it nice & have lots of love in our posts.
Peace be with you - the rest can f**k off. (joking)

13. I have the Highway 1 jazz, I think it's the biz, the finish is appalling. Never played it live and the finish is pretty much 20% gone - I don't mind that much coz I don't really like pretty basses.
Hope that helps a little bit.
cheers
