1. I used to love Musical exchange, I could spend a day there, it always felt like they had a couple of hundred basses there but it was probably less.
If you're driving down the M40 it wouldn't be a bad idea to pull off on the B452 at Ealing and pop into Peter Cooks Guitar world, they only have about 15 basses on display but have loads on theie stock list - they just fetch it for you from the warehouse, nice people and open to haggling.
I always find Denmark st is a bit of a let down.
Good luck

2. Saw them a week last Saturday at Shepherds Bush Empire, good fun and v funky - she's nearly 60 now!!
Her bass parts in Tom Tom Club songs tend to be kept quite simple, despite that she went out of time a couple of times when she was dancing around - but she's forgiven - she was dancing around like a teenager.
Keane were good as well BTW

3.
Not trying to be clever but isn't that where a harmonic is?
If you don't want them then don't play them, it could be due to the new strings and you not being used to the neck as well. You could also try muting with your other l/h fingers too....
Usually liftiing my finger to play an open string is enough to mute the string but I think your right about having to mute anyway.

cheers for the reply

4.
You want a sprayed on polyester finish that can be polished properly on a wheel. Everything else will look pants in comparison. Not putting a downer on it... it's the truth.
Is that a polyester varnish? if so you make it sound possible (the glass is half full) not a downer if it is possible, could I get a finish as smooth as your avatar's backside?

5.
Do you definitely want a "varnish" finish rather than an "oiled" finish ?

It's just that a good varnish finish can be difficult to achieve in a domestic environment (it's usually too dusty or the temperature is not ideal). Whereas an oiled finish is much easier.
Good point, I'm flying blind here but have really been taken by the finish on the Jazz pictured.
What I don't want to do is attempt something that could be a nightmare to restore, I've presume oil seeps into the wood - that would make it pretty much the done deal no matter how bad it was.
If the finish pictured is a varnish - would it be appropriate to get a furniter restorer to attempt it?

6. Hi everyone,
I have an Alder jazz body with poor paintwork, I'd like to strip it and varnish it like this

I've read up the finishing process but need sme advise about the application. Do I use a clear varnish or is it some sort of laquer.
Any tips but no sarcasm please.
Cheers

7.
first (and last gig) at the Attik in Leicester before it closed down. 1st we were supposed to be kit sharing, but the band we followed packed up their drums and fecked off. 2nd Guitarist Andy tuned his guitar - he's got a korg chromatic tuner only he'd recalibrated it accidently to about 458hz concert pitch and tuned his guitars to it. He was about a quarter tone out with the rest of the band - i could tell that there was something wrong but I wasn't quite sure as we were playing in a funny alcove thing with the sound bouncing round. then, andy breaks a string (fairly regular occurrence as he battered his guitars), switches guitar mid song only there is camo netting on the [low] ceiing of the stage, which the guitar gets stuck in and dangles for the rest of the song.

Dreadful
That's a corker ;)

8.
I was lucky, growing up in Ealing, West London, I was within a stones throw of the original Marshall shop and the Simms-Watts shop. I used to see the Who's Marshall stacks in for repair. They were always completely destroyed!
The Marshall shop is Tony's barbers now or 'F in Tony' to those who use his shop, he can't stop himself swearing all the time.
I go to Peter Cooks occasionally - that's a great shop, Pete Townsend used to get his guitars set up there.

Here's a pic I took off the stage last time we played there....

WOW - You really pulled a crowd, It really is my favourite place to see bands & so many bands do surprise gigs as well, the killers played 2 Sundays ago, REM have played a couple of times. PM me if you're playing there again.
cheers

10. Hi everyone,
I get e-mails from Bush Hall, it's my favourite place in the world to see bands, they posted this.

CALLING ALL BANDS:
We're running a mini-festival in January, to haul people out of their post-festive doldrums and showcase the best of the talent local to us. We're aware there are tons of talented artists and bands around West London, and we want to hear from you.
If you'd like to play at Bush Hall in January or February, drop us a line at [email protected] - tell us a little about yourselves, where you've played recently, and please include a Myspace link to your music [or anywhere else we can listen online without downloading]. If you're what we're looking for, we'll let you know.

Visit the website - I'll add a link in a minute.

11. I test drove loads before settling for the Squier VMJ Fretless, I think theres been quite a bit of discussion about them on this site before so you might get a load more answers doing a search.
Mine was probably the second cheapest I tried and yet the one I kept coming back to, the range of sounds is broad. I've lowered the action to get a bit of Mwaw but before that it sounded quite Jaco. I considered putting a Badass bridge on mine but don't think it would make it better than it is.
Test drive as many as you can but I'll bet you'll like the Squier + you see quite a few second hand ones around in perfect condition because people can be bothered with the challenge of fretless.
good luck

12. Hi,
How are you getting down to London? If you're driving and coming down the M40 you could swing off at Ealing and go to Peter Cooks in Hanwell, I think it's wheelchair accessable, if you interested I could pop over 2morrow and double check, they have tons of stock but if you're after something special ring and check. You can get back onto the A40 into Central London quite quick from there.
PM me if it's a consideration and I'll get better directions/details.
cheers
