1.
Bacchus sent me a Happy New Year card! What a brilliant bunch they are.
haha they know how to take care of their (*cof*paying*cof*) customers :)

BTW ped, been meaning to ask you - where do you reckon I should look at bacchus basses? any special contact?

also - have you ever tried an bass from the universe series? I reckon they're built either in china or korea, but they've got some BJB5 in a sort of translucent black I just find gorgeous...

  2.
Couple more links here - thinking about this project although I suspect it will be easier to buy one!

but then it wouldn't be your project :)

  3.
For retro styling I personally prefer the looks of Eastwood

The EUB-1 and Classic 4 in particular look very tasty...
the classic4 looks great!

I haven't really considered an eastwood mainly because of scale lenght - they're all (except for the EUB and EEB) shortscale (30''). Now the Gretsch white falcon...:)

  4.
Oh no... I feel a GAS attack coming!!!
I feel it too :)

the tipo3 look nice...but a black tipo 1..oh boy how much do I like the looks of that!

the specs are a bit disappointing though..=/

when you get the chance to go back and plug it in, please report back

  5.
But its the overly-sensitive "others" that I've pretty much given up on. If you find it offensive, thats fine. But I won't be hypocritical and retract anything I've said, because the truth is I really don't care. Life is too short to try and please people who will never get your sense of humour. This forum is not a popularity contest.
you see mate, I do enjoy your twisted humor sometimes, but you've just described youself as an ass!

    also, you complained that
To be honest, I've given up with a few people on here. You claim to be an inclusive forum, but by beeing so overly sensitive you actually achieved the opposite. Anyone with a slightly different view point/sense of humour is made to feel unwelcome pretty quickly.
the fact is that you cross the line sometimes. the fact that you refuse to use any sort of smilies really doesn't help - especially when you make those inflammatory post you seem to enjoy. anyway, that's you stepping on some members toes, and that's the reason they don't care much for making you feel welcome.

now, I'm not tutoring you - I'm merely stating my view on what's happened.

  6.
This is the colour bass I want.

I have a Squier P-Bass that I don't really use very much. I was thinking about getting it painted and sticking in some new pups, but is it worth it? The thing is probably worth about £100 so can I really justify spending the same again (and more) to make it look good, even though it will still have its inherent problems with high action and lack of sustain?
I'd avoid it.

why not keeping an eye out for any better basses in the same color you want? :)

  7.
Both are actually quite similar, but I found that the resultant sound you hear is different between the two. To be honest, they are SO DAMN CHEAP in comparison to how much your hearing is worth, you may as well buy both and see what suits you the best, then chuck the others in your case as a spare.

Then in the meatime, save some cash - buy some ER15 / ER 25 moulded plugs.. ;o)
TBH, I've been eyeballing a pair of those ER15 or ER25 for myself...but I don't know where to have them molded here in Portugal, and not sure if I'll still have a band in a couple of weeks..but in the long run, I'll most definitely own a pair! :)
I've got both. I find the Alpines to be more comfortable and discreet, but the ER-20's are easier and quicker to put in and take out. As Dood says check them both out.
shoot. I just ordered a pair of ER-20s (they were so darn cheap at €17 with cord and delivered - to Portugal - that I couldn't resist ). I have ordered these with my brother in mind though...I'll try to find retaliers who dont charge a gazillion € (or quid) to have the Alpines delivered.

Thanks both for your help

  8.
I don't really wanna divulge cost, setekh - sorry, but it may put a sale for someone else at a disadvantage in the future. Needless to say i felt i got it for a stupidly low price :)
Slapped the nickels on today, after giving her a good wash down with lighter fluid (twas a tad scummy, see) - got the neck nice and straight and she plays like a dream - a nice worn in feel.
Cheers Garry - i've actually got a spare Basslines preamp lying around - might give it a try (don't think the standard G&L preamp is as effective here as it is on the 2 pickup models - makes it a little too fizzy).

Oh yeah, nearly forgot - took the neck off and found the date stamp - 15th Sept. 1997 - the body also seems to be stamped 1997 - so she's just past her 10th birthday - and still in fantastic shape
sure, no problem!

if you do decide to sell it, let me know...I might just be interested

    meanwhile, enjoy your bass!

  9.
I do see other peoples point of view, but I cant comprehend any real reason to say something is pointless or a redundant idea of no value save 'stunt/circus/novelty after watching a couple of youtube vids.
well, you should take a chill pill before you post after reading some infuriating posts :)...thats not how you come across..

  10.
I thought 'Vinny' had ultralite strings on say like 50-10 or something, god its been years since I worried about that sort of thing...well....alright days.

If I perjump, along this line a little, the only thing I dont like is the 'Because established musician says,it then its fact' syndrome vs 'Small world syndrome'. But thats nowt to do with what this is.

Im trying to tie up the ERB issue as a body of work and people, regardless of what is 'good' or 'bad' its ERB,Im a militant on this,Ive even pondered the creation of a new clef (not a popular idea given the good old 8va...but hey). If you genuinly believe that ERB is bad period, and dont want to find out anything more, then just stop, dont express any opinion, because its weightless, you would never allow such a statement on here saying " I think all Blacks and Asians should be shot because I saw one involved in a mugging on Crimewatch" Which would be absolutely stupid,a blanket opinion.... But some people form they're opinions on very similer lines.
so you mean that if I disagree with you I have no right to have an opinion? that "example" you just gave doesn't really fit the profile...

that's what bothers me about your (and many others!) posts on this thread - you don't really try to see the other folks point of view..that doesnt really leave room for discussion now, does it? you're just exchanging blows..

EDIT: SJA man, I'm sorry but I have to say it. for your reasons (valid or not, thats not the question), you hate Steve's guts. We all got it. Now, it's very rude to start insulting and speaking (writing?) aggressively to him....with all of us watching..don't you think you're doing the same you're complaining he did? if you want to discuss with him, PM him, or fight him or whatever...I really dont need to know

    [/rant]

  11.
I think the thread has run its course... and not really arrived at any worthy conclusion!
was anyone expecting that? :)

  12.
Thanks. Took the blue one into a small studio earlier today to record a new demo for my covers band and it sounded ace - really meaty and punchy. Even the engineer recording it said how great it sounded.
first that video and now this..do you think it's right to aggravate my GAS? :)

    *checks out the american ebay*

    *checks out bank account*

    *sigh*

seriously now, it seems you hit the jackpot  congrats!
