  1. I'm onto that already! Cheers for the heads up.
  2. Cheers mudpup, it's all there really isn't it! So going by what I've just skimmed through, my brother in laws stingray is a classic. 2 eq, figured neck etc. Enjoy your bickies!
  3. Hi folks, I'm scouting around for a usa Musicman stingray 4 string at the moment and I'm noticing some variations on them that I'm not sure wether they are different models or not. i.e 2eq, 3eq, plain necks and flamey/birds eye necks and slightly different bridges. Prices seem to be quite varied too. Can anyone shed a bit of light on this for me. I've recently moved over from 6 string geetars so my knowledge of basses is fairly basic. I do have in my possession, my Bro in laws stingray from 93 which has 2 eq, a nice birds eye neck and the felt muting pads on the bridge, so this has given me a good idea of how things should look and feel. Any advice is greatly welcomed!
  4. Just taking a few readings on the guitar. With patch lead plugged in I'm getting readings from 0 to 19k ohm up to about 2 thirds of the sweep of the volume pot. Then the last third of the sweep I'm getting a 0.L reading (no continuity) ??? Does this mean a faulty pot?
  5. Just a quick edit here, just realised I 've put 3 band in the title, it's actually the 2 tone and 1 volume version. If this makes any difference and bought in 1993.
  6. Cheers for the replys, I remember a few years ago I'd borrowed this same bass to give to our old bass player to try as he had just bought a a 4 band stingray rosewood board and he wanted to compare it to a maple neck. He commented back then that it was much quieter than his 4 band. Does anyone know what the pickup resistance should be? Just wondering if the pickup has a broken winding or corrosion. My mate has kept this bass in the loft and garage for the past 5 or 6 years. Twat!
  7. Hi folks, this may have been covered before but I've just borrowed a mates early 90's stingray and I've noticed the output level is very weak compared to my ibanez bass. I've put a new battery in and done a few basic continuity tests on the battery clip and circuit board which hasn't shown anything up. To give an idea of the volume difference, when the stingray volume pot is at max it's about the equivalent to my ibanez' volume set to a quarter. Any ideas folks?
  8. Thanks for the input folks. I picked one up last week from Andertons.it seems like it should do the job nicely although I did try out the mark bass jb school player as well which I think did sound better, but was a hundred quid more and as I am new to this bass playing lark, I didn't want to spend too much just yet!
  9. Cheers for that fellas. I will pass up on the second hand one though. They are only £259 at the moment so I think if I do decide to go for it, I'll get a shiny new one with a warranty just incase it goes bang! I was told by one of the shops that it's only 125 watts until an extension cab is plugged in which brings it up to the full 250w. Is this correct?
  10. Hi folks, have been looking at getting one of these as my first bass amp. Has any one had experience of them? I've read some stuff which was dated a couple of years ago, that they have a tendency to go up in smoke. how capable of gigging are they? (pubs & jam nights) they seem very well priced at the moment. Any alternative recommendations? Cheers
