  1. Big THANKS for all the advice. Very useful. Quite a wide variety of views and I think youre right about the apparent 'tigerstripe' being 'crackling'
There's a darker colour underneath, but like itsmedunc, I believe they overpainted sunburst for custom colours.
The seller has 100% feedback and maybe thinks its genuine.
I am, however, staying well clear unless the mood takes me to go look at it.

£797 with 4 days to go - guess a clearly genuine one might have attracted more. It will be interesting to see how much it eventually goes for.

    Thanks again

  2. Never seen one quite like this.......but why do I feel unconvinced ?

Perhaps its the quality screws to hold on the ashtrays
Or the apparent tiger striping of the body.

Dunno. Maybe Im wrong. After all I'm not an expert......but Id like to know what the experts think.

(And if youre the owner, I just happen to be leaving the country now...... )

  3. The MBE-III is simply the head that was used in the MB150E-III microbass combo. GK used to manufacture two very similar combos, the MB150S-III (no chorus) and the MB150E-III (with chorus). They dont seem to make the E -version any more. Both are widely respected by DBass players, and I personally love their tone for older bass guitars, P basses in particular. With the matching 112MBX cabs, I use them all the time for gigs in small/medium venues. In bigger venues they have plenty of options for output into a PA.

Full spec in Jack's post above.

    Hope this helps

  4. Jack bought my GK amp, and he was an absolute delight to deal with.
The transaction went easily and smoothly , and his communication was excellent .
I also learnt some interesting things about GK amp/speaker combinations !

Great guy, I can heartily recommend.

  6. Gallien Krueger MBE-III amp. This is the head from the MB150E combos highly rated by upright bass players. Its certainly good for bass guitar too. I just love the warm tone I get from these amps with all sorts of electric basses. I bought this amp as a lightweight back-up to my GK150MBE combos which I use all the time. Combined with a lightweight speaker ( the GK MBX) the amp makes a nicely portable small rig for sessions and practices. WIth two speakers I use it for small or pub gigs, and on larger stages it provides my on-stage sound , with one output line (various ones on the back) feeding into the main PA for the front sound.

This is the slightly more expensive E version, which has the Boost control (very useful in my experience as it makes it louder and gives the sound a rough edge) and a Chorus (not very useful at all). It has compression as well.

The amp is in really good condition , in fact I cant find a mark on it . It is UK voltage 240v.

I've priced it at £200 and this includes UK postage

  7. GAS took hold and I have acquired a very pretty bass from a super Basschatter.

It was the usual seductive combination of good looks (of the bass rather than the Basschatter), the super-playable neck and the incredible lightness at 3.8kg.. Yes I know its PINK but I like it ! This is the Lakland Tetsuya Skyline model and whilst it's really resonant acoustically, the electric sound to my ears, lets it down. It seems muffled and I suspect the culprit is those 'Duncan designed' budget pickups and the associated circuitry. My friend had a USA Lakland with the same configuration and the sound still seemed 'soft'. I'd like to achieve more clarity, definition and punch (I'm used to playing a G&L 2500 - thunderous but now too heavy)

Any suggestions of replacement pickups/circuitry that would 'drop in' ? Any ideas/experiences/ thoughts would be much appreciated. Pics below
