£500 for a Musicmaster Bass? That's a lot of money for something that will be out-performed by pretty much any modern sub-£100 instrument.

It has "fender" on it, therefore there are legions of people who will swear it's great even if it isn't.

Many thanks, WoT. Yup, I'm pretty stoked about the way it looks to have turned out, too, and can't wait till delivery day - paid the balance last night. How long does it usually take from final payment to delivery, btw? Or perhaps there is no usually?

For me it took about a week. Depends when the UPS shipment is.

  3. I made the decision to focus on electronica in about 2002 and put my stringed instruments into storage for a couple of years. I still then let my skills atropy for about the next 10 until I decided I wanted to get better.

I can totally get "had enough" though. Sometimes.

    It's a sh*t business.

  4. Just thought I'd post to retract my grumpiness here. I'd spent the last 3-4 months playing nothing but upright ready for a gig and all my other basses have flats on.

All the buzzing came from the ridiculous amount of power I put into my fingers, so I've raised everything and tried to calm my right hand down as I could probably currently flick a pea to the moon.

  5. So I'm going to finally get my lazy arse into gear and get a rockschool grade.

On the advice of my teacher I'm going for Grade 6, listened to the tunes and they sound like they'll take some learning but be manageable.

So if anyone has any hints or, "for christ sake don't learn x track, it's EVIL", etc. then please... share.

  6. There was nothing essentially wrong with my Stealth Tank Maruszczyk. It still has its shim but basically it turns out that 3months of playing nothing but upright means my playstyle is currently ridiculously hardcore, so everything had to be raised and I needed really heavy strings.

I hadn't realised because my other fret less and fretted have flats which are much less inclined to buzz.

Feel free to say it... I'm an idiot.

I've just played it for the last 3 hours and I am totally loving it, complete beast.

  7. I'm all cool with you loving jazz basses, but if you start soloing using the bridge pickup and your fingers next to the bridge to get the "quacky duck" sound then get out and take your flat cap with you. J/K

    Well, half j/k.
