If you plug the preamp output into an active DI and use the XLR output via an XLR-jack cable, that may work. It would at least allow you to identify whether this is an impedance issue.
so the passive ones are not effective for my situation? i'm having a good deal on a fender mini DI right now! -
does it make sense to use a DI between the pre and rumble's return? to balance things out?

It's probably time for a schematic and/or a tech.
i don't have the schematics for it and the builder is out of my reach. i have to look for a tech. but thanks for helping me with pointing out the problem source. Cheers -

Typically you want the output impedance of a line driver to be no more than 1/10 the impedance of the driven input.
that'd be the key. thanks a lot -
yes Bill thanks for the consultation, it sounds ok into the amp's input but not into the power amp return.
thanks dincz for the input, yes that's an op-amp which were suspected by other chaps on another thread about it causing a lot of white noise.
so what is the solution to have a suitable output to drive the power amp on my rumble 60 (18k ohm return) without a problem? -
i may prefer the FET over another valve, though there is enough room for a chandelier inside the housing!
-
thanks Beer of the Bass, here is a picture of what's going on inside. 12ax7 are the tubes. normal and brite inputs, gain, U-hi U-lo, bass, trbl and master are the controls.
[sharedmedia=core:attachments:201501] -
thanks a lot now i have a picture of what's happening. search results too technical for a noob so i need you guys to confirm that i can ask a tech to reduce the output impedance on the pre?
-
when i plug my external preamp right into the effects return on my rumble 60 v.1 i lose a huge amount of highs even with the ultra Hi engaged on the pre. is it normal?
setup: passive P > tube preamp (i have no specs on this unit except it has a 1/4 mono output) > rumble 60's return.

Lets see if we are on the same Hymnsheet here..
You want a bass guitar with one pickup, one volume and one tone control and the pickup is a Jazz type?
The pickup has two wires?
If the answer to the above is yes, follow ANY single pickup wiring schematic.........like this one......
http://www.seymourdu...05/1S_1V_1T.jpg
yes exactly that. thanks a lot paul! didn't know i can follow a guitar diagram. total noob here! i appreciate your help! -
one lead to earth and one to the correct tab on the volume pot.....
thanks p. i'm going to try that. -
googled, searched and browsed forums, ... even contacted manufacturers, no response! found nothing on this single J.

the wires coming out of the pickups are the important part of my question. where do they go?

bought some metal washers from our local hardware shop. inner:5.5 vs outer:10 millimeters. narrowed the outer to 9mm myself and they fit perfectly. bass is set up to a good action with no problem (at least for now). thanks again.

bought some metal washers from our local hardware shop. inner:5.5 vs outer:10 millimeters. narrowed the outer to 9mm myself and the fit perfectly. decided to just swap out the D string with the D string from the new set. the neck is currently set up very well to a much better action than before with zero problem. thanks again.

Hello fellow BCers. i couldn't find any wiring diagram for a single J pickup configuration as one J neck pu, one volume and one tone controls. same as a common P config? can anyone help? thanks in advance.

Hmm, try this one (and scroll down to the thread) - http://www.fenderfor...c_number=713534
thanks man this worked and i read uncle's post. i wrote it down and will bring it to the hardware shop to see what's available. or maybe a washer close to that plus some mods on them. cheers -

YB, I can't think of anything that would be helpful.
Where are you based?
I know luthiers can use Loctite 222 Screwlock to keep screws in place, which might otherwise vibrate loose. It might stop your truss rod unwinding.
http://www.amazon.co...l/dp/B00M1UDU36
thanks chris. i'm in Iran. i may find something similar to that product. so you think i need to control the torque. but i think it's more of a wood squash problem because the nut goes deeper in its cave every time and it seems to be maxed out now! let me post a picture now -
are you suggesting MIM are not up to standard?
i don't know. i'm asking this. as they are very cheaper than the vintage/USA ones i suspected that the tolerances and standards may vary so maybe i should not put a high tension string on a mexican neck. another thing to mention is that after a1.5 year of use (with 45-100 199LBs strings on) i'm facing a maxed out truss rod which means i have to put washers under it first (if that just fixes the problem) before putting the new strings on. bigger strings=bigger problems?!
Loss of highs plugging into effects return/power amp in. help!

tried the DI. it didn't solve this problem!
