1. I think I've got a link

https://www.moviefone.com/2017/06/23/jason-momoa-peter-dinklage-badass-game-of-thrones-reunion/

Scroll down a bit and there's a pic of Slash wearing an Angels and Idols T shirt with Game of thrones stars Jason Mommoa and Peter Dinklage.

Is that the one?

There's also a clip of the gig, but I can't tell whether Slash is wearing the same shirt on stage with G n R. Ithink he might be, but the mobile footage doesn't really get close enough to be sure.

2. I started with 80s metal like Iron Maiden and Megadeth, moved on to grunge, had a fairly lengthy indie period followed by hip hop and a bit of dance music.

In recent years Funk was my thing, which introduced me to Herbie Hancock, which in turn took me to Jazz.

So far I only like the smaller ensemble stuff, mostly from the 60s onwards, rather than trad, New Orleans or big big band, but never say never.

Some blinding contributions! Although, I'm sure there are one or two that weren't hits... or even singles ;)
Sadly though, this thread has so far confirmed my suspicions, that solos are passe, and have been for many years :(
Such a shame - a good solo can add so much to a track!
BRING BACK THE SOLO! BRING BACK THE SOLO! BRING BACK THE SOLO! ;)

I was thinking about this earlier while listening to Radio 1.

With a lot of chart music these days there's a rapper performing a few bars where previously the solo would have gone.

There also seems to be a lot more classical style orchestration in pop music in recent years (even if it's all done on a syth or computer) and quite often you the strings or the horns swelling to a sort of crescendo rather than an actual instrumental solo.

The amazing James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers...

If we're talking James Dean Bradfield then this is my absolute favourite.

The solo work throughout the song is just perfectly apropriate to the song.

Generation Terrorists was a huge influence on me back in the day.

It was like Guns and Roses with intelligent lyrics and far more beautiful vocals.

Just having read the Slash bio, I think he really liked Steven, Izzy and Duff. No bad blood at all. Steven was just so high all the time that they had to fire him.
The version I heard was that they gave him a shedload of chances and ultimatums to get clean.

The end came when he couldn't physically play his parts on Use your Illusion because he was so out of it. At that point the band felt they had no choice but to move on without him.

I know he's played with Izzy, Duff and Slash a couple of times since and he' played with G & R at least once in the last couple of years, although I don't know if that was before or after the mini classic line up reunion, so it sounds like whatever wounds there were have mostly healed.

6. Not sure it counts as a hit record, and it's staggeringly obvious but I'd go for Dave Gilmour on Comfortably Numb every day of the week, it's just perfect for that song and I don't even generally like long guitar solos.

7. I fitted a Babicz to my modded Squier Jazz.

It looks great and it's a very clever piece of engineering, much easier and quicker than than average BBOT to adjust, and much more stable too.

I can't say I've noticed any improvement in tone or sustain compared to the original bridge though.

You can't adjust the string spacing, mind, but there's not that many after market bridges that have that facility, the obvious one being the Schaller 3d.

That made me laugh.

I'm definitely going Yamaha for my next bass unless something interesting used comes up.
The vids of the new ones are all very nice but very little is played on the B string from what I can see?
Isn't that generally the case with B strings?

The low D and C and the E at the 5th fret seem to be the most popular B string notes.

I had the privilege to hear Miles Mosley play live last night at the Jazz Cafe in London. What an amazing double bass player and superb group. For me his drummer, Tony Austin, stood out from the rest of his crew.

I got a shot of his Aguilar rig and pedal board which I've posted, if you're interested.

Here's a clip of Miles performing one his better known tracks previously uploaded on YouTube

I saw Miles playing with Kamasi Washington last year. Awesome player. I think Tony Austin was one of the drummers that night, along with Thundercat's brother Ronald.

Superb gig.

If he was gigging anywhere near me I'd be there like a shot.

That first song he did, played with a band, is an absolute stonker of a tune. one man and a guitar has its limits imo.
That's what I'm thinking. He's got some great uplifting, upbeat songs, but, when it's just him, he struggles to replicate the drive of the recorded versions.

12. There's something utterly joyous about watching older performers/bands, who must know their golden age is over, going out and not only winning over that massive crowd but absolutely slaying it.

Best Glasto set I've watched this year.
