1. I can't comment on the 1x12 but I have owned a 4x10 and based on that wouldn't recommend them. Had loads of problems with mine, very light for a 4x10 but the sound was not that good and it let me down twice on gigs, ended up having my money back, then purchased a second hand Mark Bass 4x10 for less - miles better cab, I'm now on the lookout for another MB cab (pref 2x10 poss 1x15) Dave

    Zoot Cabs
Hmm interesting..... Eminence components....
yes, an eminence px2 crossover was installed, the other concern I had was this crossover is rated at 400W, the cab was supposed to be 1200W, however power certainly wasn't the cause of the failures on my gigs more like vibration/ metal fatigue given where the wire were breaking
  5.
Further to my last post about upgrading, somewhere down the list there, I've been Googling away and found an advert for a second hand Laney R5 plus extension 15" cab, for £225 - so not too much of a stretch of my meagre budget and within a reasonable travelling distance too. Are these good? They seem cheap to buy new so what is the catch with them? Thanks.
I've got this setup as a backup and practice rig, I have been thinking of selling it but the market is dead so didn't think I would get that much for it so haven't bothered advertising it. The R5 was replaced by the RB-7, the only difference I can see is the R5 has a hard plastic covering that seems to be easily scraped, the RB7 has a carpet covering and different handle arrangement. On its own the R5 will give around 200W through its 2x10s, with the R115 its power goes up to 300W Its actually quite compact for a 2x10 and not too heavy, the kick back design is also handy if you want to just use it as an on-stage monitor Soundwise - although the R5 has a hf horn it has no real punch, also without the R115 it doesnt have a great bottom end, a very mid-range sound, having said that people have actually positively commented to me about its sound so it obviously isn't bad. They are cheap because they are a budget brand built to a budget price, They are ok at the right price but you need to try one to see if the sound is what you are looking for

    Zoot Cabs
What exactly happened ?
two different failures in the crossover - wires snapping between components and the circuit board caused complete failure of the cab

    Zoot Cabs

not sure if my experience is unique but I was extremely disappointed with my zoot cab and personally speaking I would look for something else lightest 4x10 you will find but my zoot 4x10 let me down on gigs, I also had concerns about the specs they quoted after checking the cab. I was desperate for something lighter due to back problems but it has to be reliable, had a refund in the end. Yesterday bought a 2nd hand Markbass 4x10HF, miles better than the zoot but slightly heavier
  8. I use a USA Cirrus V and think it is superb, do not confuse these with their Far East BXP namesakes. Unfortunately because of the Peavey name people do dismiss them and their resale value plummets but people are missing a trick here, it did me a favour, when I bought mine second hand a couple of years ago I got it at a great price, at the prices these go for second hand you will not buy anything better imho. I dont know about 6 string but a used 5 will be around £550 - £600, and a USA Cirrus should come with a hard case. Dave
  9.
They defo had one in it was with the guitar. I'm not an idiot nor a liar.
Didn't say you were, but neither am I, just repeating what the guy in the told me over the phone at least we can be assume they dont have one any more
  10.
£175 ! thats crazy, they cant be that undesirable or bad surely. I dont suppose it is still there? Is that typical of the second hand price that i should be expecting to pay or was that a one off?
Well I rang X Electrical in Canterbury today and the guy I spoke to said that they had never had a Line 6 bass. The only Variax they had was a 300 Guitar, it is used and is £115, but it doesn't have the power supply / cable. So 705 owners maybe they haven't lost quite so much money ... yet
I saw one in X electrical in Canterbury for £175 I asked why it was so cheap and the guy said no one wants to buy them.
£175 ! thats crazy, they cant be that undesirable or bad surely. 12. Any views on the Line 6 Variax 705? For some bizarre reason I fancy adding one of these to my collection but I have seen mixed views. I appreciate the simulations may not be 100% perfect but if they are pretty close they will be good enough for the type of work I do. But how do they play? Does anyone gig with one - how reliable are they? Do they ever come up second hand, I have been looking round and haven't seen any for sale, what are they worth 2nd hand? Anyone got one they want to sell? Dave
  13.
looks like quite a beast of a cab! what's the reason for selling, and are you interested in any part exchange deals? cheers, ben
They are excellent value cabs, really good solid bass end but also punchy due to the tweeter (which has a variable attenuator on the back so you can adjust how much high frequency you have from the cab). I think that they are seriously underrated especially for the price. I'm selling following a prolonged and severe period GAS, I have collected far too much gear and have other cabs to choose from and this one lost out when I decided something had to go. Trades / part ex I hadn't considered, as I say I am trying to lose gear not acquire more but what did you have in mind? Dave
  14. bump before I list on Ebay Is it quiet in here is no one interested if it helps anyone thinking this over I may be able to deliver or meet part way for the cost of fuel. Dave
  15. I also think they are good value, and I am offering a good saving here over new. Apart from the small mark on the top (which you don't see anyway when an amp is on it) it looks like new. I have used Peavey gear for years and find it reliable and robust - essential for regular gigging. I also play five stringers and this 4x10 has no problem with the low B. I have received a lot of positive comments about my sound using this cab. I'm only selling as I have other cabs to choose from (too many) and need to recover some space in our spare room.

  17. Anyone interested in a Peavey 410TVX EX cab ? This cab is less than a year old, I have had it from new, it has been gigged a few times but it is still in excellent condition, apart from a small mark on top where the foot of another cab has lightly scratched it is spotless.
