I don't get this thing about cheap strings on a bass. It's like buying a sports car and then having the cheapest tyres available put on it. Why would you do it to a bass? I use DR strings but I pay £14 a set...

I wouldn't say Roto nickels are that bright at all; Prosteels are brighter I would say than Roto steels!

If you like Roto nickels then I would try DR Lo Riders or SIT Powerwound nickels which would be a touch brighter.

What are the nickel strings you have on now?

Put the cable through the handle of the cab before putting it into the amp input.
