I would like to point out that, contrary to Jon Anderson's assertion, mountains do not come out of the sky. The last time that something similar happened was 65 million years ago, and that didn't turn out too well for the dinosaurs.
Um, as per the B-52's, we'll be here a long time with Yes lyrics 😊

I should really have known better, because the single-neck is a much better match
Twin neck is for supertankers.

A win of say £10 million?
Wal Mk.2 5-string. I can blow all the money in one go and have something to be excited about for ten or fifteen years.

We had been offered a gig in Gateshead, the plan was that the band plays in one room with the performance video linked to the "crowd" in a separate room! We decided that Northampton to Gateshead to play in an empty room was not worth doing
You could do that from home?

Used to love Q when it first came out. We subscribed at the bar I ran and had quite an impressive, well thumbed collection by the time I left 13 years later.
Sadly I suspect the above description is all too accurate.
I had a subscription and it used to be a good mag.

Hmmm, massively overrated and massively overpriced.

Thanks for the interesting replies guys, I never bought one at the time which is why I'm curious about how they have stood the test of time.
If they were still available now I think would would take a punt on one because I just love messing around with basses, and at around £60 one of these would have been ideal 😉
Keep an eye on eBay for our friend who shall not be mentioned, he'll have a 3 string version any time now.

I'd just be a bit wary of two things: one would be getting the vinyl bug and then soon wanting to upgrade from something that would have very little re-sale value; the other is the risk of wrecking a nice record collection with a cheap tonearm/stylus set up. Although that would be faithful to the old Dansette tradition 🐵
Have been looking at this quite recently for my brother, who sounds to be in a very similar situation. He seems to be edging towards the Audio Technica turntable which connects via bluetooth to wireless (powered) speakers. Although I believe these just send the summed mono signal to both speakers rather than true stereo.
Oh dear, mono v stereo argument inbound 😂

I don’t know about cheaper options, but the Pro-Ject Juke E is well regarded integrated turntable and amplifier, just needing a pair of speakers (which you can find bundled for under £500 total)

What a fantastic bit of kit.

Anywho....... thinking laterally - why does live music have to be stuck in with drink and pubs? Remove those 2 obstacles and there will be plenty of options where to play.
That's a hell of an idea.

This really isn't about "just letting people die" any more than it's about "no person left behind". The disease isn't a government policy that can be changed, or a dangerous behaviour that can be outlawed ... it's a thing that exists and that we now have to deal with, like cancer.
We currently have no cure. We currently have no evidence that a cure will ever be available. We currently do not know whether herd immunity exists or whether you can get hit by this twice. We don't know how many different but related strains of Covid-19 exist or whether there can be cross-immunity between them. In fact, there's a staggeringly long list of things we don't know.
What we DO know is that our entire approach to civilisation has had to be modified, and not everyone is entirely happy with that. We also know that our current approach to that modification involves spending unbelievably massive amounts of money that we don't have, which then impacts on every other aspect of life for decades to come.
I've spent my entire life so far aware of the risk of dying from a very long list of potential causes. As far as I'm concerned, I've now added Covid-19 to that list and I want to get back to living my life. Many others feel the same way, but of course there are plenty who disagree.
I'm not saying that I'm right at this precise moment, but I do know that eventually we WILL have to get back to living our lives. All we're doing is bickering about the timing.
Will people die? Yes, of course they will, just as they always have.
Excellent. Could you post that to parliament, they seem to have a very simplified view of things as do their increasingly cooperative medical advisers.

I played a gig near St Austell once with a covered outdoor stage.

Sticking to the topic of pub gigs, I think its fair to say that today's new guidelines will only be able to be implemented by a subset of pubs - I suspect most will be keen to at least try it, rather than remain closed.
But of those that re-open, they certainly won't be rushing to have live music back any time soon. There might be a handful of places which do low-key (I don't mean Ab minor stuff....) musical performances, eg a jazz pianist or maybe even a quartet.
I think for the vast majority of us, its no change and still "watch this space". I've tried to find details of any government consultation with the arts industry, without any luck - the Making Music website doesn't have up-to-date details, for example.
I doubt Earth, Wind and Fire will be gigging anywhere 😂

I suspect that's very close to the governments real programme. I can't say I agree with it, but on the other hand, I have no idea what else to suggest. It's a fine line between a financial disaster (with all the attendant problems including premature deaths which that brings) and allowing 'nature to take its course'. I wouldn't mind betting that Boris J. wishes Teresa May had hung on to the job for a few more months!
As much as I think Buffoon J is making a hash of it he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Stay in extended lockdown and emerge to a financial wasteland isn't an option.

Punk, New Wave, Thrash Metal, 00s Boy Band Pop, Hardcore, U2...
I'd answer this honestly but I can't be bothered with all the $h1t I'd get. U2 happened to like them, the bulk of their output doesn't stand up to comparison.
