Haha! Double albums AND I saw the show: Topographic Oceans - I was tripping my donkey off and they OPENED with the complete Close To The Edge. So that was a million hours of Yes and me having a Spiritual Experience. T.O's was STILL TOO LONG when I came down. (but the good parts were still good, I think I wrecked the vinyl after that) And they kept editing that down in live performance. The Wall. Over Blown. I had Mezzanine 1st row@ Nassau Colliseaum (right where the plane hit The Wall, turns out). Interesting to see live, considering there was a Fake Pink Floyd band and a Nazi Rally at the other end of The Colliseum, and they brought out The Inflatable Pig for No Reason. But, Boring, Boring, Boring, Double Album with Too Much Waters and Not Enough Pink Floyd. And Joe's Garage Sucks except for when Frank Shuts Up and Plays His Guitar. Sorry F.Z. fans he ran outa fun a long time before that.

You sound like you're still on that trip.

  2. No compilations, live albums or obscure twaddle.

    Don'ts:

The Lamb - 1st half much better than the 2nd.

Physical Graffiti - brilliant, but around a quarter of it is old outtakes - bit of a swizz.

Songs in the Key of Life - always found it a bit flabby - lingering play outs for instance.

The White Album - George Martin was right, they should have made it a single album. Revolution No.9 - WTF?

    Do's:

Quadrophenia - Just about and the final side, Bell Boy to Love etc is the best bit.

...and, back on-topic, I've just finished this DVD which I bought for a couple of quid off eBay.

I've read all the Yes books and that, but it adds a lot more and is surprisingly frank. Worth picking up.

I can't wait for the updated version with final chapter. Any time soon please.

    Case in point:

Donning my favourite Genesis geek outfit... if they'd have included Steve Hackett's* Inside and Out and excluded Mike Rutherford's* Your Own Special Way it would have been better.

*No Charterhouse mafia band politics happening there was there.

Re: Post-Relayer Yes and post-Gabriel Genesis, How can you personally prefer something if you haven’t heard the alternative...?

You’re missing some iconic music there...

Can't agree more re Genesis, A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering are two of their best albums.

I've always been a Rush fan and My drummer friend has recently been getting me into more modern prog with the likes of Porcupine Tree and Steve Wilson's solo work.   I've never gotten around to listening to any Yes though it's been on my todo list for a while now!  This thread spurred me on and so I'm listening to Fragile right now (no idea if it's their best album but I recognised the most song titles).

It's very of it's time but quite enjoyable to listen to. Loving Chris' tone and playing on this album!

    Fragile is awesome!

All 'new' proggers are standing on the shoulders of giants.

The pictures I have are a bit rubbish!

the 12 step connects with a right angled usb (because there is little space) long lead up my microphone stand to an iPad via the iPad camera connector. Korg iM1 is finning on my iPad (and the behringer x-air for the Mixer and a lyric app). Then the audio out connects via a really long jack to 2 mono jacks to the mixer.

i used to use an app called chord ion for chords but the 12 step is good for that, and also sends a program change when changing preset which picks a program on the iM1

Thanks for your advice, it's taken me in a different direction which is exactly what I needed.

Once you have a suitable controller, you have more options than Moog alone e.g. I would also consider one of the Behringers such as the Model D (which is on sale because it's being replaced by the Poly D) or the Pro-1 (the one I'm most interested in as a general synth).

The Minitaur looks to me like a fairly standard 2-oscillator analogue synth module, but with fewer options e.g. no noise source, no pulse width control, oscillator sync control by MIDI only. Maybe simpler is better if you're focused on getting that sound only and aren't looking for a synth for more general use.

Nice informative post. I can't get to grips with my Minitaur and I too only want 'that' sound.

Probably the sensible decision, it is what I would like to think I would go for. I played a set of taurus 3 and they were fun but once you get over the "OMG I am playing a moog Taurus" they weren't actually that special!

I have the 12 step and often think a set of PK pedals would be good, but it is another thing to shlep around.

I had a PK-5 before and they're marvellous. Best feature is they'll run on batteries.

Seems on the high side, but obviously there aren't many around so if you really want a moog taurus 3, you don't have much choice. If you want the sounds you obviously have a lot more choices a lot cheaper.

I currently have a Minitaur/Mcmillen 12 step but I find it a pain. I much prefer actual pedals.

Awesome stuff. Stewart Copeland especially is absolutely monstrous on drums during the footage - playing with the energy of someone half his age. For me it's better than the 2007 Led Zeppelin reunion gig. They play some cool album tracks too in addition to the hits. I've always found a lot of their biggest hits to be their worst songs (De do do do). I'd have loved to have heard seen of the lesser known album tracks played live on this film though (eg: Bring on the Night, Omega Man).

Three big reunions happened that year; Genesis, Led Zeppelin and these guys. IMO they all did a great job.
