    The best trio power band by far.
    They reached a level in the progressive music scene that become reference for bands like Dream Theater, Riverside & co...so I love their music.
    As we are here on a bass forum, what can I say...Geddy Lee rules. Spectacular bass playing.
    For better understanding I believe that is an absolutely MUST to listen the "Exit Stage Left" live album.

    Very Frustrating

    I really appreciate your willing to learn reading notes, and I absolutely don't want to make you loosing your courage but...
    Learning any instrument from trombone to digeridoo to bongos to piano, etc needs time, study and application.
    So beliveing you can do it in two or three months is a ridiculous dream (unless you are Mozart).
    However good luck with the reading.

    Defretting

    Some more things you have to count with;
    On the factory made fretleses the ebony or rosewood fingerboard is thicker, in order to compensate the frets's height.
    This is needed in order to have a reasonably low action for the strings.
    So, on a defretted fingerboard you have to see first if the actual bridge allows you to have this action enough low. Some neck height adjustment (to the joint with the body) may be needed.
    It could be also needed a special treatment with epoxy or other hard laquer in order to prevent the fretboard to be "eaten" by roundwound strings.

    I saw her live in 1977... She played her BC Rich bass like stellar hell, ever since she is among the players who gave me the envy to play bass.

    Drummer learning Bass

    Btw, I always considered the rhythmical side of bass playing being as important as the musical part, so beeing a drummer can only help.

    I was using before only the EXL and I tryed the ProSteels for a different reason; I needed lower tension on my Smith fretless...and gues what; not only the fretless started to sing but the feel to my fingers was so good that I begin using them also on my fretted basses.
    Now I am 50/50 nickel/steel on my basses.

    This is a very intersting set the new balanced tension strings...but I have a problem ( I hope only me...lol)
    You know, after more than 30 years of bass playing with 130.100.80.65.45.32 ( six and five strings much later) I feel this gauges setup like they belongs to my fingers. Of course I tryed all the existing strings' gauges sets on the market but I feel really "at home" only with my usual combination (D'Addario EXL 170)
    It's also interesting that I find myself more sensitive to the gauges than to tensions of the strings, so it's easely to use different brands as long as they have my favourite gauges.
    I always thought that the best bass set up is when you forget about the bass itself and when you are 100% in the music.
    Changing now for a better tension oriented set (with other gauges of course) it's kind of weird feeling and I should do a real effort...but now, if I already find long ago my "perfect gauges" is it any better to change?
    Interesting question.
    However I want to believe the new balanced tension ones are very very good.

    I pray you are right ( except for the mini...lol) but I ask myself some questions:
    As I know the corporate world ( and I know it pretty well...unfortunately) it is a very poor idea to announce in advance a future release of an already existing brand (be it a joint venture or any other buy/sell brand's name rights) before this deal is secure. For this kind of amateur practice in the real corporate world you got usually...fired.
    Now, I looked after all this new release on the net and it was never stated it will be a mini version (that means a lot of cut and short backs potentiometer and internal circuits wise...made in China, etc) - some people may like it, but I don't.
    Another hard question is why and WHY are they going Oddisey way when they have already some great analog synths (MonoPoly, Polysix, etc) in their past catalogue??? Considering also that the response of the market for the mini and the kit is absolutely great.
    Imagine what a great idea to have a MonoPoly Kit or a Polysix Kit. (at least for me)

    So, even that I hope like you that the Korg Oddisey will be a great release I know that in this troubled world of modern profit&loss kind of synth... and that well respected japanese synth companies still strongly believe the sample based workstations are very cool & very hype...everything can happen...and not always in the pure analog way oriented.
