1. SOLD!!!!!

    Wow! That was quick.

Thanks for all the emails. Now for that 2nd Retro Two10 !!!!

Up for sale, my Fender A/E Precision bass I got this in July last year from someone on here.

    It's very light - which I like. My scales say 7lbs 2oz

It sounds like a Precision unplugged and then makes a nice grunty Precision sound from the Lace sensor. It also has a piezo in the bridge - which makes it sound like an upright bass by itself. That's kinda cool and I use that for a couple of songs. Also, you can blend both pickups which is the way I mostly like to do it. Gives a curious Precision sound with lots of warmth.

Now ... here's the thing. It was a rosewood boarded fretless when I got it - but I failed miserably with fretless. So I bought a Mighty Mite maple neck and had a local guitar repairer/builder swap the neck out for me. All nice and pro set up. Nice low action as I like it - and looks very cool.

ALSO ....... I STILL HAVE THE FRETLESS NECK, WHICH I'LL INCLUDE IN THE SALE IF YOU WANT!!!!!. It would be no good to me anyway. If you want fretless, it'll be easy to put the original neck back on - and you might make a few quid from selling on the other neck.

It's been great as my open mic bass - where I've sneaked it in with the girls and their acoustic guitars and bongos. But it needs to go as we've stopped doing so many open mics as we gig more now. Also, some places were reluctant to let me play with it on their "acoustic only" nights .... despite the fact that everyone plugs in their Taylors and stuff. Whadyaknow!

And I've spied another Barefaced that I fancy and moneybags won't play ball.

Comes with a hard case (not Fender but in good nick). Made in Japan ..... I think the serial number makes it a 1989 model.

Great all round condition. The odd minor scratch here and there which you can only see if you go looking for them.

I can deliver around the South Coast or I'll send it to you at your cost (about £15 or £20 to send).

Here's what it looked like when I bought it.

  2. Oh dear. I've gone with the majority without knowing it. I said 10, 15, 12. I think you can hear more of the tone in A and C than you can in B - and A sounds brightest of 'em all. Although neither A or C have that deeeeeeep feel to them. Either our reasoning is sound as a pound and correct - or just goes to show that it's not as simple as that.

  3. Thls what you want. I have their flats on my Steinberger Spirit headless. Sound great. Great price too!

Then again, the thread is titled "Kanye West" and not "That guy who made an arse of himself at the Grammys". He was already a household name at this point.
Back at ya.

  5.
Errm, I don't know if you've read the rest of the thread and the reasons why I started it (the link in post #1 should give a clue), but I can assure you it wasn't because of the high quality of his recorded material...
You're being condescending. Nice.

  6. Can't be as bad as Metallica. After I saw them on last time I figured it would go down hill. It was like they were dropping their standards with them. Just very, very poor.

Kanye's first coupla albums - College and Late were good. Well good if you like that kinda thing. Like most famous artists, their fame is based on something. If his first albums had been terrible - there wouldn't be a thread in his name on here would there?

After that, he went all show biz, over produced and started to believe his own hype - and now he is the deranged fool that we all know.

He'll probably put on a watchable show. It'll pull more TV than practically any rock act, sadly, or not sadly.

In this case, it probably is, I'm afraid. I didn't point to a specific post in the first instance.
Don't worry Mr Beer of the Bass. What you see there is someone thinking they know better than little me and making condescending remarks to put me and my know how down. You know how much that worries me? Ha ha.

For clarification on my stance. Now, before said gent tries to have a field day again - let me be 100% clear.

I have a 1 x 15 and a 2 x10. Both Barefaceds. They are roughly the same size horizontally - so close it makes no difference. So, which one to put on top?

I've tried it both ways. Both cabs, on their own, are quite different. But when you put 'em one on top of the other - it's real hard to tell the difference ..... if there is any real difference to hear. Depends where you stand. If you are standing right beside them - then you can hear the different cabs. Take yourself more than three yards away - and they sound like one combined bass sound. To me ................. and I don't really care what so called experts who know a lot more about me and can say "says it all" say. That's what I hear and that's what I think.

So, what's a girl to do? I put the one that looks the best (the 2x10 with silver cloth) on top. I'm sure that's a crime.

  8.
2x10 on the top.

From a mechanical perspective it's far more stable and from an audio perspective it's easier to hear the higher frequencies if they're not round your ankles. :)
Nah. I've got exactly that combination. I've tried both and can't tell the difference. I put the prettiest one on top.

  9. On the upside, I have added some tape to the posts, which both holds the controls on nice and securely - and can be removed easily ...... and I've sent out a request to TC from some replacement controls. Haven't heard from them, but even if they don't reply, the solution suggested by Andytre is great.

Thanks for the help. It's what forums like this are for. Cool.

As for the side subject here - shall we just all forget it? Points made/taken/argued etc. Move on I say.

Jenny, I am sorry. That is a real apology.

I had no idea my silly comments would make you feel so bad and it was genuinely not my intention.

As others have said (not that I am hiding behind anyone else's words) this place can be like a cross between a workplace and a pub. People make off-the-cuff comments without really thinking about who is listening and how they will react. At other times, we know exactly how people will react, and deliberately seek that response. This was not one of those occasions.

I don't know you, and certainly try not to judge people by the way they present themselves on an online forum. I have two daughters and work on a predominantly female environment. Most of my friends are female. I say this not to defend my actions or try to paint an image of myself, but to give a little bit of context to my comments. My sense of "humour" is the same at home and at work as it is on here - and I have always been sensitive to the feelings of others. It is much easier in person of course, when one can see their response physically.

I would delete my comments, but I feel that would not be appropriate. It would also make the thread look strange and make subsequent comments seem random. They have also been quoted and I can't delete those.

I am also very sad that you have had to endure such awful experiences just because you are young and female :(

BTW, and just to end on a lighter note - maybe in future it might be safer to avoid thread titles that mention the word "knob"? :) It would just be a matter of time before someone makes reference to it... ;)

    Cool.

  11. I bought a headless Steinberger Spirit stick bass on here a while back. I wanted something small and light to keep in the car as a gig backup.

I play a Precision and have never had a need for a backup. Until Saturday there, when I was again standing in for a friend's Dad at a party. I forgot to pack the main bass and turned up at the gig with the backup bass only. Oops.

So, I used the Spirit. I have to say it was fun and got lots of comments from people. I didn't go much on the sound. Thought it was a bit weedy and made me sound a bit distorted during the gig. However, listening back to the audio recording, it sounds pretty cool in the FOH mix. A couple of Zoom recorders out front.

Two things I would say. Firstly, I'll need to do something with the strap to push the body to the right a bit. I see the Synapse model does this with a strap button extension thing. I can probably get one of those and fit it to this somehow.

Secondly. Wow! What a sustain you get on the Spirit. Monster. It was a bit of a problem on some song parts, as the note just wouldn't die. I adapted alright after a song or two - but it is different.

Gotta say I like it. I'm surprised, but what a wicked bass for the money.

It's called innuendo and double entendre, actually - but I take your point. Sorry you didn't like it, but if you spend a bit of time around Basschat you will see that this type of peurile "humour" is quite widespread. Many of us "old men" actually enjoy it.

Maybe "BassTeenGirlChat" would be more appealing to you? You seem to make quite a few disparaging remarks regarding the age and gender bias of the membership of this site after all.

    Word.
I just don't need it. If you're young and female, you go through a barrage of so called "puerile humour" everywhere you go. If you could walk in our shoes on a Friday night when you can't walk through a town centre without all kinds of lewd suggestions being hurled at you and disgusting people blocking your path unless you "go on give us a kiss" - you might understand. It means that I can't go out on my own at night without being scared. How would you feel? What about your first ever bass gig and constantly being told by drunks to get your **** out. That's puerile humour isn't it? It's really hard and has reduced me to tears a number of times.

If I provoke any sexual innuendo, then fair enough. But I don't.

Have a look at the following. This has a very familiar ring to it. Could be Bournemouth on a Saturday night. And then maybe people should think before they think puerile humour is appropriate.

  13. How can a nation so rich in pop music history even begin to think this is a suitable representation of ourselves in a competition?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-31769776

Who is it who makes these decisions? Can't one of our current pop "big guns" have a go? - Florence, Sam, Ed, Emili, Ed, Paloma etc

Why do we send in the non-league team?

  14.
Cool. Because I do give my knob a good tug now and again...
That's just what a young girl needs. An old man making sexual jokes in her thread in which she asks for advice. Thanks.

  15. So ..... I played a Peavey Valveking 100 Watt all valve head today at a pub gig - where I was standing in for a friend's Dad on bass.

Peavey Valveking on top, Barefaced Retro Two10 in the middle, Barefaced Compact Gen 2 on the bottom. It looked awesome. Pedalboard was TC Polytune, a Sansamp Triac set to two different SVT emulations and a Bassman setting - plus an iStomp with Red Compressor all via a G70 wireless.

The band I played with loved it all.

It all sounded like the RH750 - but a bit cleaner. I used the clean channel.

One thing I wondered about was the volume. Well, just like the RH750 - I couldn't get the dial on more than a quarter volume without everyone saying I was too loud.

So ...... brilliant. Looks cool, sounded cool, plenty volume in reserve.

Only downside was the weight and size. Not too bad though. I think it's a keeper.
