1. I have that issue too. Exactly that. The Piezo pickup is massively louder. So much so, that I couldn't figure out what the controls did.

Am I right in saying that the pickup nearest the neck is the Pbass pickup volume, the one in the middle is a tone (is it a master tone) and the one closest to the bridge is the pickup blend switch?

I'm gonna have to get someone to have a look at mine to make it useable.

Great bass to play - but as soon as ya plug it in there is that volume imbalance thing.

  2. Sitting it beside the Compact Gen 2, the handle looks fairly similar, but feels a lot more sturdy and more substantial in build.

The tolex looks a really good job. Not really any tolex grain - which is probably good. Much, much better than Marshall tolex for example. Mum has one of the Marshall "hand built" 2 x 12 Marshall cabs and Dad has quite a few Marshall 4 x 12s. They look as if you could sneeze and the tolex would rip. I'm not gonna take any chances mind, but this looks smoother and more solid.

Yuk to the Compact Gen 2 "lump of coal" finish by comparison. They should consider changing the whole range to this tolex.

  3. By the way, Dad has been in contact with RoqSolid about having a cover made. They don't stock one right now, but said they would make one once I had the cab and could send pics and measurements.

I've spent all afternoon doing that and sent the results off to Bryn at RoqSolid. They are on their Christmas break now until the new year - so it might be a while, but at least I've started the process. I'll provide an update when I hear more about that.

I've been toying with the idea of a 2x10 myself recently, they don't seem to be much heavier than a 1x12 and look like a good choice for a one cab solution..

is that a port on the bottom? I've never seen one there before...

It's got a hole in the side on the right as you look at it which lets you see inside. No idea what that's for, but it looks cool.

  6. I've still got the Generation 2 Compact, which my Dad's bass player doesn't seem to interested in having back. He's got a mountain of gear though, so he doesn't need it.

I'll be testing it alone and with the Compact to see how it rolls.

It's a very pretty thing though. They should offer it in other colours though, like red and pink and green and white and stuff. We isn't all old men y'know.

  7. My Dad said he ordered it aaaaaaages ago. It was supposed to be for my birthday in September, but he seemed happy that I got it for Christmas. Upside is, he also go me a "backup Christmas present" which is under the tree for the big day!

I'll give it a bash tonight ..... although I might play some loud iPod stuff through it for the evening tonight to get it going, so might be tomoz.

  8. Oh aren't Dad's great. He's off to Europe for Christmas with Mum so I got my present early ....... and here it is. Wow. I'm shocked. I said I wanted some bass gear, and I was expecting a cab. But I didn't think I'd get one of these. Came in the post first thing this morning. It's tiny and quite light, which is great if you're only little like me.

Why do I have to spend all day packing computers when I could be testing my new baby. I think I'll slope off at lunchtime!

Where did you actually buy the head from?
..... as I like the look of these, but can't see anywhere worldwide that they are in stock. Can you mention where you bought it from so that I can have a look?

  10. I have a technical question about sub placement.

Me and my girlie band are having our first outing next weekend at a party and we're borrowing a PA off my dad's drummer. Guitar, bass, drums, punkie. Nobody is coming with us to help set up - so we're sort of flying blind. We have a play with it at a rehearsal in the hall that the party will be in. All was fine, saved the settings and we'll tweak from there given that there will be people there and not an empty hall next time.

We didn't use the sub as it wouldn't fit in my boot- just the two tops and a couple of monitors. We'll have the sub on the day though.

Where do you put the sub (I mean physically place it). Is it okay to have it at the back beside the drummer? I know you ain't supposed to have the mics ahead of the vocal tops (which is fine) - but does the same apply for subs? Touch of bass and the kick will be going through there. There is a configurable/dedicated sub out on the desk.

It's just that the sub is big and will look weird and big and we're thinking of having some plant pots in the only space it could go at the front.

Not sure what your point is...

That's a pic from the Barefaced twitter account - so they're highlighting someone who uses a 2x10 on top of a 1x15.

I get the fact that the 2x10 would be different - but I'm guessing, if you order one of those, it'd resell okay - so you could give it a spin with little risk.

....... I'm not sure I see the benefit of running a Two10 and Compact together.....
Please explain yourself sir.

I have the use of a Compact for now and I can have it if I want it. I said in another post that I like the low down sound, but need a bit more clarity. Adding one of these, and putting it on top, would retain that low down Compact sound, but add more to it - and up at my ear level.

I see a lot of people sitting a 4x10 on top of a 1x15 ...... so in my, less volume required scenario, I figured that sitting a 2x10 on top of a 1x15 of the same brand might be a interesing?

  13. So, could I ask a technical question about these cabs?

If I add a 12 Ohm version of the Retro Two10 to a Gen 2 Barefaced Compact (8 Ohm of course) - what would the resultant impedance be? I saw on one of those online calculators that it would be 4.6 Ohms. Is that right? Would seem sort of ideal if that's correct?

Also, and I have no idea about this ....... each of the cabs have two sockets. Is it a case of plugging the amp into any one of those on one of the cabs and then running a cable from the other socket in that cab to any one of the sockets in the other cab?

And if so, is that called running them in parallel?

And does it matter which cab goes first?

How would I know these things?

  14. Clearing out all of the bits in my Dad's music room that he doesn't want or have space for any more. Some new, some used.

First off, a new and unused genuine Fender (still with the plastic covering on) pickguard from USA Standard Jazz Bass (2012 I think). £22 posted.

Here's a tort pickguard originally from a USA Hot Rodded Precision. It's not new, but in good condition. Comes with all of the pots, knobs and the socket - although I'm not sure any of it is genuine. All working fine. £22 posted

[s]SOLD: Next up is a Varitone device which replaces the standard control plate of a Fender Jazz. Includes all pots, knobs and the socket. £16 posted.[/s]

[s]SOLD And finally, a pre-amp for a Fender Precision. Comes with all of the pots, knobs and the socket. In working order and ready to wire in. £16 posted[/s]

  15. I'm drawn to this for some reason. Never seen one before - had a look about them online. I guess it'd be a completely different animal to play - but how does the actual sound compare to a Fender P or J?
