Brilliant! A cross between a Ricky and an Aerodyne Jazz Bass??
I think you're right, exactly what it looks like, very nice, unique. -

You damn right there, brother! -

Coolest looking bass on ebay is this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=330345459550

Never heard of it, US mag? Do you mean Guitar World? -
I picked up a BGM on holiday as bass player wasn't in the shop and i have to say i was gutted to have wasted £4 on it. What a load of rubbish. Not even worth getting 3 issues for a £1 each if i subscribed.
What would be interesting, though is WHY you thought it was a load of rubbish. To just say "What a load of rubbish" makes you sound like you're at a 1950s football match. -
That's the one. The one with Mr Sadowsky (Bela Lugosi).
Well, I thought it was a very good issue, I don't dig on jazz fusion either but that does not diminish what those bass players have to say, or what you can learn from them. And as i said before the session players piece was very interesting and useful for me personally. -
Had a look at the new issue in WH Smiths. Still the same Jazz Fushion players, Warwick and Fender catalogues, high end basses and waffle.
Which issue? The one with Gwizdala on the cover? -
Sorry if any offence has been caused.
Not in the slightest, mate. Although I think you need to look at the OED's definition of "irony", or maybe you're American.
The fact is this thread has had rather a lot of views and posts and that includes some of the people from BGM. They appear to have taken some of the suggestions from the venerable BC members on board and the mag has improved greatly in my opinion, largely because of the new editor I guess.
Cheers. -
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your life?
Are you by any chance someone with crushed dreams of a career in writing? Is that why you feel the need to spend large amounts of your free time lashing out at established journalists and writers with worn out cliches, over petty issues. Disliking a magazine is one thing, but spending this much time moaning over niggles is another. You know you could just not buy the magazine...
People like you who use your 'wit' to act upon petty, meaningless issues like this are the ones putting internet debates in a bad light. The media owes you nothing. If you think you are above the writers in the magazine, why don't you put your apparent skills to better use?
Aaaaanyway, Bass Guitar Magazine may be a bit too brown nosed, but it's better than nothing.
I do write as part of my work, no crushed dreams there, I like writing but I wouldn't want to earn a living at it. I'm a musician which is where my dreams lie, I'm in three gorgeous bands, what more do I want? Apart from having interesting and informative chat/debate/argument on here of course.
Finally, I'm sorry mate, but "better than nothing" is not the sort of philosophy I can tolerate. If you're going to do something, do it f*****g properly, or not at all. "better than nothing" is a disease. It is not something to aspire to. -

Hi
Just bought from e bay this japanese squier original sellers pictures attached.
This is a 90s bass Q serial no, made in Japan, the quality is very good and I was happy to add this to my expanding collection of precisions.
Unfortunately, I didnt realise untill it arrived , it has a narrow almost jazz profile neck not a precision. It is 1 9/16 compared to the jazz 1 1/2 and I prefer the wider neck.
I played this on saturday and it sounded great, but the neck doesnt do it for me. I paid £150 plus postage, and Im looking looking for the same for it. I reckon i could post for £10
I had intented to pimp it with a gold scratchplate, knobs and bridge cover see additional photo. I will chuck these bits in for an extra £20 to the buyer of the bass they cost me £30 a week ago, if the buyer wants them.
Is it a silver series? -
Sounds like a bit of a tit. Better of out of it aren't you? Sorry to hear that though, not pleasant.

I played in a very heavy band called Fister with a fretless Jap Jazz. Don't recall ever having any problems as long as the monitoring is good, with more midrange and a bit of top end in the wedges. Never owned a bass amp in my life, I either went direct or used someone else's backline.
I started off defretting above the 12th, but love the sound of it with that band so much I took them all out. -
Hello mate.
I lived in Llandysul near Caerfyrddin for a good few years before moving to London. Love the old place, miss Wales, but I love the smoke too. My folks still live there so I get up a couple of times a year. They used to have a cracking music festival in Caerfyrddin called Rock Over The Towy. We're talking early 1980s here though
Good to have you aboard. -

I don't mind the cute little French freckles my lady has, but I don't want lined face! -
I KNOW an active Warwick Corvette fretless is what I need. I KNOW this, and have for quite a while. So why do I sell a bunch of gear off, get decent funds, then fall for the first sexy French bird I see?
I've had a few fretless basses over the last year or so, a Jap Fender Jazz Special I really liked but without the power I need. A lovely Warwick Fortress 5 that I quickly realised was wrong for me cus it had those funny lines on the board and an extra string I never made friends with, but oh, the noise it made! Then I see this French lady, who looks stunning, with lovely "come to board" eyes, and I swiftly take her for my own. I spend a good few bob on her, but she feels wrong in my hands. But the French accent, and the utterly lush poetry that she speaks with every note, is mesmerising! She speaks in a way a Warwick never can. But I play pop and dance music so I need a good, respectably dressed German chap with a loud voice, who I know I can be friends with for life, even though he'll probably be a bit oafish.
I don't know what to do, I know I won't get my money back from the French lady. A brand new German fellow to my specs will pain me because of the massive expense and depreciation, and there have been bugger all fretless Warwicks on the bay that would suit my needs. A few passive ones, but who in satan's pant wants a passive Warwick?! If the French girl goes I need to replace her sharpish because I've written lines that need a fretless and I have gigs coming up. But there's sod all S/H W out there.
What in god's name do I do? Learn French? Buy a new Warwick? There's a nice active Corvette STD on Thomann for a decent price but I can't spend any "new" money as I skint myself going to friends' stag dos and weddings recently (they cost a bloody fortune! especially when Michelin starred restaurants are involved), and interest in the French woman is muted for the money I need from it. I'm prepared to lose a few bob but I've had a couple of, frankly, very disappointing offers.
Sorry for the vent. I've never been so frustrated trying to sort a new bass. Albeit, probably all my fault for being a sucker for lovely looking things -
Wot are those funny line things on the fingerboard?
-
Great band!
Lovely bass tone! Great playing! What's with all those HFs? -
Just thought I'd mention this: A young girl came into our shop last Saturday looking for a beginner bass pack - bass, amp, etc. I gave them at least an hour of my time, which included:
A detailed run through 3 basses - a Squier Affinity P, Yamaha RBX, Cort active. All around £200.
I explained the difference between single and dual pickup configuartion, and the active tone controls on the Cort.
Ran through the features on the amp - an Ashdown Tourbus 10w.
Showed her the correct way to hold the bass, right and left hand positioning etc.
Because her Dad was into Cream, I gave an impromptu lesson on how to play Sunshine Of Your Love.
Demo'd the difference between playing with fingers and pick.
While she was practising the aforementioned bass part, I showed the parents some books and explained how to read tab.
The parents commented on fingerprints being all over the bass (!!), so I took ot and polished it.
When she chose a strap (chucked in for free), I adjusted it to the correct length.
Answered every one of the million quiestions they threw at me (Secret Shoppers?).
The whole sale came to £244.
Nuff said.
Good man, that's how it should be.
I just started a thread about my local music shop who did me a really nice favour on Saturday. They LOVE kids in there, their website is nothing like any other music shop website I've ever seen http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=54900

It's not odd really though, mate. A bass pre-amp has limited interest even on a bass forum, but a kid determined to get his tongue pierced, and all the social connotations and opportunities for humour that provides, is relevent to the masses.
