    middle finger usage

    I'd have to side with the technique camp here. Individuality is fine, but not using a middle finger makes things much harder than they need to be and will complicate playing to a far greater extent than, for example, not using your little finger or plucking with your index finger only.

    My 2 cents, anyway....:)

    Would a rockbass neck swap straight out for a warwick neck?

    Is the Warwick neck from the Streamer STD? If so it seems like a lot of trouble to me - you'd likely have to re-dowel the original Warwick neck and re drill to get it to fit. If you aren't knowledgeable about woodworking then it'll cost to have this done. Plus you'd end up with a hybrid homemade instrument that might be hard to sell and a Streamer STD body with no usable neck!

    Hybrids work well with Fender instruments, but not with Warwicks.

    You can buy a Corvette Std for £350 secondhand - that's an extra £75, but alot less trouble in the long run. :)

    No need to sell all your gear. I'm mostly a bedroom player at the moment (I occasionally chip in with a band I know) and I have three basses! .They're my chill-out toys! :) ^_^

    My favourite thing to do at the moment is to surf around Spotify (which is awesome) and play along to random tunes.

    Hi,

    So what we have here is a Squier Precision Standard Special V in what appears to be metallic red. I bought this to noodle around on whilst keeping an eye out for a pricier five string bass (Warwick, of course).

    It's great fun to play and in great nick. The only thing wrong with it is that one of the knobs has been replaced and doesn't match the others. It makes a nice rumbly, middy sound. :)

    Now looking for [b]£100[/b] - a nice, cheap way to get some five string, Fender-shaped action! Offers considered.

    There's no case with it, so would prefer a pick up with cash. I'm in London.

    Just out of interest, what's your budget?

    You should check the "for sale" section:-

    £180 gets you a Bass Collection SB320. These were great basses that sold for £500 odd back in the 90's (I bought one). Perfect for a starter - really easy to play. This would be my top recommendation - you can't go wrong with these.

    There are also a few old Westone basses from the 80s for sale here that shouldn't cost the earth. These things are built like tanks and have a great tone. An entire generation of Basschatters started on these fellas!

    If you buy secondhand you can make your money go alot further, no need to buy dodgy stuff! :)

    Fender Precision Active Preamp Upgrade, Ideas?

    It worked a treat on my old 1 pickup Warwick Streamer STD. I used a Seymour Duncan Basslines STC-2 band 2 pickup circuit and simply took out the pickup blend pot. That left me with one volume and one stacked tone knob.

    I'm keeping an eye out for a 5 but also have a rather disturbing urge to get a P-bass shape/config!

    I know about Sadowskys, the Fender American Standard V and the Sandberg P5 but was wondering if there are any other options (especially at a more mid-level price). There seems to be lack of mid priced instruments of this type, so I guess demand ain't that high!
