If I am honest with you, I really can't see why there's such a problem with glossy necks? Can you describe on what part of your hand you are you are finding it sticky?

I've never had a problem either, hence my comment about wiping your hands. The neck is naturally slippy with the lacquer, so it's your hands that are causing friction.

I agree with all of this, Ed has cost me a fortune! And it would be great if a good player compared all the eubs from the stagg right upto the fancy ones with all styles shown.

Couldn't agree more. The bass whisperer gives reviews exactly like they should be done. He plays nice clean, clear lines , whilst giving a great explanation of each piece of equipment. I could watch his videos all the time. If only!

  3. There was a place we used to play where you could almost guarantee a fight every weekend. Very often cat fights. The thing is, it was always a good night in there, plus our gear was safe on a little stage. We didn't mind trading off the rough aspect for the fact that it was a good crowd. They would let us in to set up and sound check in the afternoon and we always got a lock in too.

Another place we play, it's arrive, set up, play. Half the folk aren't even listening and it gets tiring. You have to feel that your entertaining someone.

These days I'm always glad when a party or wedding comes along. Thats usually a good night as people want to get up and enjoy themselves .

  4. I wouldn't trust any courier. I sent a combo in a box with very adequate packing. The guy mailed me and said the tweeter was hanging off and one of the main speakers was blown. There was a big bash in the grille too. I had to get him to send it back to me. I was royally cheesed off. There was a programme on telly a while back that showed the lack of care that some of these places have. They don't give a f***!

  5. I recently got tickets for the black keys and was quite chuffed until I found out the place I got them was another of Ticketmasters offspring and I'd paid pretty much double the starting price. What's the point of Ticketmaster if they are going to give a huge percentage of their tickets to getmein and Viagogo? The only time you can get tickets from Ticketmaster, is if it's a small band or if you are really spawny. I agree with Tonybassplayer, sign the petition and get these pesky legalised ticket twits shut down !

My JB-75 came with Wilkinson tuners £25, Wilkinson bridge £12, Wilkinson pickups £30 - £40.
    D'Addario strings say £12 - £14. Ash body and a Maple neck.

    Where's the cheap plank ?

Sorry mate, I'm not trying to slag off anyone's guitar but those are hardly high end prices are they? I'm sure they play ok, just not for me. You would not expect a great guitar for a hundred quid. If you're buying second hand that's different.

  7. Thing is, even at full price, these guitars are only like a hundred quid, so it's not like your getting an amazing deal is it? Not trying to knock this thread. I'm just thinking if you put work into the bass, it's still going to be a cheap plank, is it not?
I'm sure someone will prove me wrong here, forgive me if I sound sceptical , it's just I'm always wary of hundred quid guitars.

    They look lovely!!
But I think they'll struggle to find their market at $3000?

Who needs the short scale? I've got the solid body Les Paul bass, and it's a joy to play. I never could get with short scale basses.
