1. Hi Guys

I'm trying to put together a video for our new NT-J bass. I want to get 20 bassists on 1 bass.

What I'm planning on doing is filming 20 x 30-60 second bits of improvised original noodling/slapping/funk/etc and editing it all together into a video.

I've already got a good number of volunteers to get me towards the 20 I need, but I'm running out of bassists I know. :)

Is anybody interested in helping me out? I really wouldn't monopolise too much of your time, you'd get to try out our new bass and let me know how great (or how sh*t) you think it is... I'd meet you somewhere convenient for you and bring everything I need with me.

    Is anybody interested in helping?

    Thanks in advance. :)

    - Stephen

  2. As an exhibitor it was worth attending (although my feet still hurt). We sold enough on our show offer to cover our costs exhibiting.

So at the very least, it was two days of exposure, and generally generating good word-of-mouth.

Doubtless we will sell more stuff in the next couple of weeks to those that were on the fence, or those that it's eating away at that they just didn't buy one. You know who you are. BUY ONE DAMN IT! ;)

I'll probably attend again next year.

I am very much an impulse buyer. I would have bought a Chowny bass if I could have taken one away on the day, but I have to wait 6 weeks for a left handed. I should have had a try on one, but I am always too nervous to try anything. The only person who has seen me play is my bass teacher.

You should have had a go. :) You'd only have been on headphones anyway. And nobody would judge.

Sorry for the lack of lefty stock. They only account for about 5 to 10% of our sales, so until we grow a bit more, it doesn't really make it practical to hold stock. We're working on it though.

  4. Whew! Finally got back to Bristol last night at 22:30 after another very long day at the London Bass Guitar Show.

It was great to see some bass chatters (both the lanyard wearing ones, and those that were incognito). It was amazing the positive feedback we received from pretty much everybody. Even those that thought it wasn't "their thing" still had nice things to say.

For those that came and tried one of our basses - Thanks. Hope you enjoyed the show. :)

Biggest thanks however goes to Basschatter "Romeo2" who volunteered to help me and covered the stand when I couldn't. Thanks a million dude!

Elaine & I will be on hand to answer any D'Addario related enquiries. Come and see us on stand D12 to try out NYXL Bass.
We've got your NYXL bass string on our Chowny NT-J prototype that we will have at the show too - if that's of interest. :)

I really like the sound and if you had a fretless model I'd probably snap your hand off at the bass show.
One of the benefits of being a small business is we could consider making you one to order. :) Come and check them out at the show, and if you like the quality, we can come to some sort of arrangement ;-)

Like Hofner? Good to know, thanks
That's what I've been told. Personally I like to think they sound like "Chowny Basses". They definitely have a distinctive tone.

The Great British Bass Lounge have a short-scale one if you fancy playing one? That's relatively close to you isn't it? It'll give you a good idea of sound and quality.

  8. Hi

Selling a Chowny CHB-1 (right handed) in gloss white. It has a pick guard fitted. It's brand spanking new but has a tiny nick and smear on the neck so I can't sell it as new.

I've included a photo of the damaged section, as you can see there is a chip (not much larger than the fret marker dot) and a smear (you can see it passing through the fret dot)

I'll courier it if necessary included in the price, but i'd feel happier if it was collected so you could ensure you're happy with it. (I'm in Bristol)

    Thanks!
    Stephen

Are the pickups in these basses similar sounding to anything else, like the Gretsch Electromatic or Hagstrom Viking?
Soundwise - everybody tends to lean towards saying they are like Hofner.

There's lots of stuff on our soundcloud, and on youtube if you search for "Chowny Bass". The CHB-1 and CHB-2 use exactly the same hardware.

  10. THREAD HIJACK!

If you guys are at the London Bass Guitar Show we will be selling CHB-1's on the day (provided you are right handed!), with a free £49 gig bag, so you can saunter out with your very own. Plus we have a CHB-1 lefty and a CHB-2 (righty) prototype to try. So if you're gonna be there it might help make your mind up.

  11. We will be sell
Can anybody help me: I came from Germany to visit the show. Is it possible to buy a new Bass directly by the exhibitors?

As far as I know, yes, and I also think you can place an order with an exhibiting luthier at the show, if you want a custom build, but since I have never done either thing, I will wait to hear confirmation from other BCers.
Oh, and welcome to the forum, Thomas! :)
We will be selling on the day if that's your thing. ;-)

Sounds interesting. And yes, a black option would be great!
Sorry to hijack the thread but update on these over here in the affiliates area of the site http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249697-update-on-chowny-bass/page__view__findpost__p__2959657

And... see the new issue of BGM for the latest addition! (The name hasn't been posted on FB or Twitter yet, so I won't spoil the surprise.)
    \m/ :D \m/

That's not the only reason to pick up the latest Bass Guitar Magazine. They have a review of our CHB-1 bass in there and it's a very good one!

Any chance of a black option at a later date?

EDIT: scratch that, the Sapphire Burst on your existing model is gorgeous!

    Hi

Here's some sound samples (excuse the awful video quality - doing video was sort of an afterthought and I had no lights).

Do you have any more info regarding the 34" Chowny Bass? I couldn't see anything on their website or Facebook page.
Hi! It's exactly the same spec as the short scale model. But it's 34"... we had to make it a little heavier to solve some neck-dive issues, so now it's perfectly balanced. I am busy editing together a little video demonstration of it, which I'll post in the Affiliates area of the website. It's the same price too (£360), but will come in only 3 colours (Emerald Burst, Sapphire Burst and Tobacco Burst).

This final production prototype we've just had is perfect, so we will spool it into production for delivery about March/April time. We'll start taking pre-orders in the new year. (At which point we'll add it to the website and Facebook pages)

  16. Great post Scott. They sound different too of course. We've got a 34" CHB-2 now, and it definitely has a slightly different sound to the 31" CHB-1. When I get the chance to edit the video together I'll post it up.

Nice - is that a natural finish CHB-1 or a new model entirely?
New model entirely. Go Over here for actual photos of it.
