1. Calling all bass detectives out there, please let me know what this five string fretless is, looks and sounds pretty amazing (the latter is, ekhm, 'partly' down to the awesome player that Wojtek Mazolewski most certainly is):

    Thanks!

  2. I've been once, and perhaps it is noisy but we go to gigs or play on stages that are waaaay noisier than this so I don't get what people's problem is. Want a quiet day out - go to an art gallery (perhaps not Tate Modern, overcrowded with disinterested chatty tourists...).

Will I go again? I'd love to check out the Maruszczyk's, say hi to Adrian, or drool at other extravagant gear at prices from outer space. But the admission ticket for 1 day at £20+ is a bit steep. If there were shop stalls with gear we always buy like strings, cables, etc. that sold this stuff at prices below the usual bargains you can find e.g. online, then it makes sense. At the moment I am not so sure.

Does anyone know if Hipshot A style bridge, .718/18.24mm string spacing will fit with no mods? Asking because there is one on sale here but could not find anything online to be sure of it.

  4. My thoughts exactly neepheid - but then again, I have two Tribute G&Ls and absolutely love them ;)

Somebody, treat yourself to outstanding bass quality for really silly money. (I'd have it but with the size of my palms, I struggle to get on with a jazz neck, sadly.)

  5. PlungerModerno, thank you, that's very useful.

In the end I think I found a very close match, of the 3 Pozi ones in this set, the middle one does the job: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/rolson-6-part-screwdriver-set-n66ct (and the smallest one fits perfectly in the intonation screws in the Squier VM bridge).

Funny thing about the saddle-lock screw in those G&L bridges. When I bought my first G&L that screw was missing so I emailed the shop, they apologised and sent me one in the post. That was in the L2000, I put it in, tightened it, thought it actually made a difference in the phatness of the sound. Great.

Some time later I bought the M2000 and once I did the intonation setup I tightened the screw, then when I tried untightening it it just stayed in place.

Turns out there is a piece of plastic between the screw and the G string saddle which I was unaware of since it was not there in the L2000 bridge. I tightened it too much so the plastic compressed and would not move back (in fact, would not move at all). I had to dismantle the G saddle to get it out, had to discard it and it is now just the screw tightening the bridge, just as I have it in the L2000. It probably does not make a huge difference and I am not sure why that plastic thing is there at all.

Anyway - I hope this is enlightening to those who have that bridge and were wondering what the heck is going on inside of it.

  6. People, just wanted to draw your attention to this young cat from NY. Saw them live last night at the Barbican and while I do not play DB, this man was very impressive, such beautiful feel, so much melody, and one solo he did was just unreal.

Please share your opinions if you are familiar with this player, opinions, recommendations all welcome, thanks!

  7. well it sounded alright, I guess, it occasionally sounded a bit muddy but I think it's just how the FOH decided it should sound. Quite a good band btw, interested to see how they develop.

Having said that, the band after this one had a classic P and it sounded proper! (But with their own sound guy behind the FOH board though...)
