Nice piece of kit
-
Had anyone heard of these before today ?
Does anyone have any experience with them?
They look rather impressive….

Surprisingly, I found the TC RH series amps produce a very transparent reproduction of my double bass. I use an RH750 into a vanderkley 12” with no issues.

Just to restate the original point of the thread.
If you’re moving on from 4 strings, is there any point in going to 5 instead of 6.
-
Well, if nothing else we have created the word pointiful. I suspect ‘pointmore’ was what @Lozz196 was after but pointiful is definitely better.

I thought I’d throw the question out there.
I started on 4s and migrated to 5s.
Now I’m migrating to 6s.
I think of the B and C as extensions to a 4 bass, with the B the more ‘useful’. But the C allows some colour under certain circumstances.
Your thoughts?

It rather depends on your budget.
Atelier Z have a couple of excellent basses that can be strung this way. I have a lovely ZPO that does this really well (E-C).

Iconic(ish) bass verses new Uber bass. I say ish as it’s not a Mk1 which I think is the ultimate Wal (I px’d mine 🥴).
I know which one I’d go for ….

Probably worth mentioning the scale length…

An inch or two shorter and one more string …..

Thanks @ead 😎
I've not got a fretless with MC pups, but I have a headless 6 string with the DFM 4K preamp. I do also have a fretted 5er with the MC pups and a DFM 5K however.
I've got a decent range of Alan's designs too, albeit in 31.5" scale, so the OP could see what shape fits well too.
I've reached out on the Facebook post, South Croydon isn't too far so hopefully we can figure out something.

Thanks. I have messaged you via Messenger.

I have a 3/4 bass I really should move on. It’s got quality Thomastic Spirocore strings on it (an important point and £180 alone) and has been properly set up for jazz and orchestra. I used it for my first couple of years.
It’ a Gear For Music laminated model and is a very good example.
It would come with the soft case as well.
Stand not included.
£375 would do it.
The pickup in the photo is a Fishman BP 100 that I can do for £50 with the bass.
I’m in Leatherhead just off the M25.
Thanks for looking….

From my experience:
Sire for value.
Atelier Z for quality.
Good luck

I’d like to try out an ACG fretless with one of the latest DFMs and the Uber pickups.
Does anyone live within about an hour of Leatherhead with such a beast who might enable to help me out?
Thanks.

Thx

That, is very very nice ….. 🤔
-
Does anyone have one of the Junior Jazz from Fender to offer an opinion on them? I might contemplate a move on one.
Thx

It seems perfectly usable. The neck is slightly asymmetrical and thicker on the B side to stiffen it.
And the B is very full due to the filter preamp.
-
If you’re going to look wider, Atelier Z and ACG make top end short scale instruments. If you have that level of budget of course. Chowny do a set of UK made ones as well.

Well, I increased the budget and have acquired this magnificent beast.Having now been playing it for a few hours it’s right up there with the best.
Now I still need a 6 short scale fretless…. 🤔

This feels under priced now, I’d take it to Bass Direct (who aren’t far from you) as I think they have good international exposure.
